)SA-ATS SYSTEM An invention that mitigates the effects of an impact upon the child. A truly integrated protection mechanism that actively responds in order to reduce the risks. The new mechanism known as the “SA-ATS” (Shock Absorber and Automatic Tensioning System), is designed to reduce the forces and the accelerations that act upon the body in the event of a frontal impact. The action of the shock absorber is associated with a seatbelt recovery mechanism which, in the event of an impact, is gradually tightened in the area of the shoulders, thus reducing the movement of the child's head.Dynamic testing, carried out at 50 km/h both with and without the SA-ATS system, have proved its effectiveness in absorbing a significant portion of the impact energy, thus reducing the stresses upon the child. The detected acceleration forces, which without the SA-ATS system come close to the 55g limit permitted by the current standards, were reduced by 30% thanks to the intervention of the SA-ATS system. This reduction can be decisive for the safety of the child in the case of impacts at higher speeds.The functionality of the SA-ATS system can be compared to that of a true “assisted braking device”. The system is capable of preventing the acceleration forces from exceeding the 40g limit: a value that can mean a significant reduction in the damages resulting from the impact itself. For this reason, the SA-ATS system is an effective means of protecting the passenger against serious immediate injuries, as well as the latent injuries that are notorious for manifesting themselves even years after the accident has occurred.
