ELECTRICITY,
OTHER SOURCES OF ENERGY,ENERGY CONSUMPTION
& CONSERVATION
ELECTRICITY
• Electricity is an important part of our life. Since electricity is a form of energy, it is capable of doing work.
• Static Electricity-
Is the accumulation of electric charges on an object.
Electrically charged objects obey this rule- opposite charges attract, like charges repel.
• Electric Current- The flow of electric charges.
Conductors and Insulators
• Conductors- Materials that allow electrons
to move easily through it. Current moves through
conductors because electrons can move easily through materials that do not hold their electrons tightly.
Copper, aluminum, and silver are good conductors.
• Insulators- Materials that do not
allow electrons to move through it easily.
Plastic and rubber are good insulators.
• Electromagnetic Induction- Is the process in which
the motion of wire through a magnetic field produces a current.
Most of the electrical energy converted to useful electricity by electromagnet induction.
OTHER SOURCES
OF ENERGY
ENERGY SOURCES MAY BE CLASSIFIED……….
• CONVENTIONAL SOURCES ARE THE COMMONLY USED
SOURCES OF ENERGY
• NONCONVENTIONAL SOURCES ARE THE ALTERNATIVE
SOURCES OF ENERGY
Renewable and Nonrenewable
Solar Fossils fuelsHydroelectric Nuclear Wind Tidal Geothermal
`
SOLAR ENERGY TIDAL ENERGY NUCLEAR ENERGY WAVE ENERGY WIND ENERGY OCEAN ENERGY
(OTEC)-OCEAN THERMAL ENERGY
CONSERVATION
(PNOC)-PHILIPPINE NATIONAL OIL

3 TYPES OF FOSSIL FUELS•PETROLIUM•NATURAL GAS •COAL
ENERGY CONSUMPTION AND CONSERVATION
• ENERGY CONSUMERS MAY BE DIVIDED INTO RESIDENTIAL,COMMERCIAL,INDUSTRIAL AND TRANSPORTATION SECTORS
Turn off the light when it is not used.
Unplug the appliances when it is not used.
Use public transportation instead of privately-owned vehicles as much as
possible.
Recycle materials
Ride bicycles or walk on short strips. Avoid unnecessary trips.
