Agriculture Budget 2013-14

HIGHLIGHTS

Achievements

Agriculture

125 lakh tons of food grains production estimated during

2012-13, it is higher than production of 118.83 lakh tons

last year (2011-12).

The share of the agricultural sector became 15.3 % of the

Gross State Domestic Product during 2012-13; the rate of

growth of agriculture sector increased to 1.8% during 2012-

13 from (-) 2.2% in 2011-12 thus increasing by 4% on

year to year basis, inspite of drought.

Designed for the first time in the country, Bhoochetana

Yojane implemented from the year 2009-10 in

collaboration with ICRISAT and received wide

appreciation. During 2012-13 sowing in 164 lakh acres;

yield increase varying from 21 percent to 43 percent in

16 crops achieved.

Rs. 586 crore spent for distribution of 35 lakh quintals of

seeds to 1.35 crore farmers during the last 4 years.

Distribution of seeds to 23 lakh farmers at an expenditure

of Rs.113 crore.

Formation of one organic farmers group in every taluk;

grant of Rs.100 crore towards subsidy to 1.10 lakh farmers

for adoption of organic farming in an area of 4.46 lakh

acres.

Budget Highlights 2013 - 1464

During 2012-13 khariff season, 8 lakhs M.Ts fertilizers

stored as buffer stock and so far 6.37 lakh M.Ts (worth

Rs.695 crore) supplied to the farmers. Adequate quantity

of fertilizers made available to the farmers.

Subsidy of Rs.576.94 crore during 2011-12 under Suvarna

Bhoomi Scheme. Rs.241.50 crore subsidy distributed to

4.28 lakh beneficiaries in 2012-13.

During the last 4 years, drip and sprinkler Irrigation

adopted in 7.44 lakh acres for more efficient use of water

with an expenditure of Rs.382 crore. Rs. 75.72 crore spent

covering 95,877 acres during 2012-13.

Under three types of Crop Insurance Schemes. Rs.406

crore paid as compensation for crop loss.

Rs.573 crore spent for distribution of various agricultural

implements to 3.85 lakh farmers during the last 4 years.

Rs.79.57crore spent for 17,538 beneficiaries during 2012-

13.

Under the Agricultural Produce Processing Programme,

Rs.32.75 crore provided for the construction of 269

Threshing yards, distribution for 1385 processing units

and distribution of 2.16 lakh Tarpaulin sheets.

Rs.100 crore grant for the establishment of 1000 Hire

Service Centers for agricultural implements in 2012-13.

The credit of bringing out Samagra Krishi Vanijya

Abhivrudhi Neethi for the integrated development of

agriculture and allied sectors for the first time in the

country goes to Karnataka. During the Global Agri

Investment and Food Processing Meet organized in


December, 2011, 64 MoUs involving an investment of

Rs.60,925 crore signed.

33 schemes under implementation. 43 schemes

anticipated to be implemented soon; Inflow of an additional

investment of Rs.43,000 crores.

During 2011-12, repayment of Rs.777 crore of crop loan/

short term loan taken from Commercial Banks/ Rural

Development Banks by 2.30 lakh farmers. Interest

subsidy of Rs.13.23 crore at the rate of 3%.

A web portal launched in 2012-13 for online disposal of

farmers subsidy applications.

Prof. Nanjundaswamy who gave a new momentum to the

farmers struggle honoured with Krishi Ratna Prashasti,

grant of Rs.10 lakhs given to his Pratishtana.

Horticulture

Horticulture sector income of Rs.23,000 crore is 40% of

the overall agricultural income of the state. Rs.5159 crore

income to the farmers from exports. Area of cultivation

grew at 5% and the production grew at 6%.

Animal Husbandry

Rs.41.75 crore spent for construction of veterinary college

buildings and providing infrastructural facilities.

Starting of veterinary polytechnic at Konehalli in Tumkur

District.

Assistance of Rs.20 lakhs to non-governmental

organizations under Cow Protection Programme.

Rs.220 lakhs under the Calamity Relief Fund and Rs.284

lakhs under Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojane released for


growing fodder in the departmental farms and mini fodder

seed kits supplied to 1.10 lakh farmers.

887 M.Ts of fodder purchased from Vijayawada at a cost

of Rs.97.49 lakhs and supplied to goshalas opened in the

drought affected districts.

83 lakhs cattle and buffalos vaccinated for foot and mouth

disease.

Implementation of Dhanvantri Yojane to provide

emergency treatment (on the lines of 108) to cattle,

initially in 26 taluks of 5 Districts.

Action for filling up posts of 391 veterinary doctors and

642 veterinary assistants.

Fishries

1,14,600 kilo liters of diesel provided under the scheme

of supply of tax free diesel.

Power subsidy of Rs.2.10 crore to 173 ice plants for

rejuvenation of ice plants and cold storage units.

Rs.10 crore spent towards integrated development of

fisheries under Rastriya Krishi Vikas Yojane.

Construction of fishing harbors at Mangalore, Honnavar,

Malpe and Koderi at a cost of Rs.159 crore, including

central assistance.

Distribution of 4141 life buoys, 5346 life jackets and 241

equipment kits for safety of fishermen. Rs.3.71 crore

compensation given to 30,836 fishermen under Saving

cum Relief scheme.

Insulated boxes distributed free of cost to 6000 fisher

Sericulture

About 1.32 lakh families are involved in sericulture in

1,80,000 acres; annual silk production has touched 8000

MTS.

During 2012-13 an additional 19,924 acres brought under

mulberry cultivation and silk production reached 5,096

MTS (at the end of December 2012).

Co-operation

Under the scheme of agricultural loan at concessional rate

of interest to the farmers, during the last 4 years, Rs.18176

crore loan disbursed. 53.37 lakh beneficiaries received

the loan and Rs.939 crore paid as interest subsidy.

As at the end of December 2012, Rs.4025 crore short term

agriculture loan distributed to 9.75 lakh farmers through

the co-operative institutions. Rs.2703 crore crop loan

distributed to 8.72 lakh farmers at zero percent interest.

Implementation of scheme for providing loan facility at

4% interest to the self help groups functioning in the state

through the credit co-operative institutions and during

the last 4 years, Rs.1322 crore loan distributed to 1.26

lakh self help groups. Rs.62.37 crore paid as interest

subsidy.


During 2012-13, Rs.10 crore released towards the interest

subsidy of Rs.262 crore loan availed by 18,669 self help

groups.

Rs.3630 crore of loan including Rs.3284 crore principal

and Rs.346 crores interest availed by 15.24 lakh farmers

waived.

During 2012-13, 29.46 lakh members registered under

the Yashswini yojane; 52,166 members underwent

surgery, amount of Rs.49 crore paid.

10,062 new self help groups formed, Rs.292 crore loan

distributed to 20,789 self help groups through the co-

operative institutions.

Agriculture Markets

The size of revolving fund increased from Rs.650 crore to

Rs. 725 crore.

Expenditure of Rs.7 crore under the Rural Infrastructure

Development Fund scheme and Rs.5 crore under the

Rastriya Krishi Vikas Yojane.

Rs.1.12 crores spent for providing infrastructural facilities

to 12 markets in the backward areas.

Preparation of project report for the establishment of

Coconut Technology Park in Tiptur of Tumkur District

completed.

90 acres land acquired in Kartagi of Gangavathi Taluk

Water Resources

25 projects completed during the last four and half years

and irrigation facility provided to an additional 7 lakh

acres and field irrigation canals constructed in 4.86 lakh

acres. 2.56 lakh acres of saline and alkaline lands

reclaimed and field drainage canals constructed in 8.35

lakh acres and 2969 kms ayakut roads developed.

Rs.750 crore spent for rehabilitation and resettlement and

for the development of Bagalkote.

High priority to the drinking water schemes, pure and safe

drinking water provided to the local villages by rejuvenating

many tanks.

Construction of 1932 kms Achkat road.


Yethinahole project approved at a cost of Rs.8323 crore to

provide safe drinking water to the eastern part of the state

i.e., Kolar, Chikkaballapur, Bangalore (Urban) including

Minor Irrigation:

During the last four and half years, 1.89 lakh acres added

under irrigation with an outlay of Rs.3084 crore and


irrigation to an area of 4,34,652 acre stabilised from the

existing projects.

Completion of 417 tanks works under Tanks Repair,

Rejuvenation and Revival Programme of the Central

Government during the last 3 years.

Completion of 493 new works under the Accelerated

Irrigation Benefit Programme, with an outlay of Rs.685.39

crores since 2009-10.

Under Community Based Tank Management Programme.

Rs.496.56 crore spent during the last 5 years including

Rs.61 crore for 99453 beneficiaries belonging to the

weaker sections and those below the poverty line.

Under the Special Component Programme, irrigation

potential of 22988 acres newly developed and the existing

irrigation potential in 5522 acres stabilised, with an

expenditure of Rs.8.8 crores, 20,747 farmers benifited.

Repair and rejuvenation of 702 tanks belonging to the

Minor Irrigation Department and Zilla Panchayats under

progress, during 2012-13.

221 works costing Rs.117.60 crore under implementation

in the coastal districts under the Kindi Anekattu and

Bandar Construction Project.

NEW STRATAGIES

Agriculture

Pass book containing comprehensive information (land

holding, category, address, facilities availed etc) of farmers

will be provided to the farmers by integrating by Bhoomi

project with the existing Aadhar database, fully

computerizing and web enabling it.

Establishment of Farmers Income Commission as

recommended by Dr. Swaminathan.

Furnishing of accurate information required by the

farmers on agriculture, horticulture, dairy farming,

animal husbandry, fisheries, sericulture, marketing etc.

through a single window in a professional manner in

collaboration with expert institutions.

In order to formulate a program to protect the farmers of

Karnataka from the effect of frequent droughts,

Government has entered into an MoU with 9 international

C.G.I.A.R organisations.

Extension of 2nd Stage of the Bhuchethana Scheme to

an area of 168 lakh acres including 144 lakh acres of dry

land and 24 lakh acres of irrigated land.

Continuation of Suvarna Bhoomi Scheme and extension

to the farmers growing millets such as Ragi, Jowar, Maize

and Bajra. Rs.300 crores proposed for assisting 3 lakh

beneficiaries.

For rejuvenation of saline and alkaline land, large scale

demonstration in 72,000 acres of land under the

Tungabhadra and Upper Krishna projects with a provision

of Rs. 30 crore.


Extension of Organic village programme under Amruth

Bhoomi scheme and implementation in 240 acres in each

Hobli under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojane, Rs.100.00

crore for encouraging manufacturing, certification and

internal control by APEDA identified agencies and

marketing by expert non-governmental organizations.

Rs.55 crores for implementation of Own Seed Development

programme by Seed Production Centres of the department

in collaboration with various seed development

corporations and private farms by encouraging seed

production through infrastructure facilities like fee

concession for seed certification, construction of seed

storage godowns, construction of harvesting yards and

equipments required for processing.

Scheme to send four messages containing weather report,

market information, technical and extension information

of the district daily to the mobile phones of 100 registered

farmers/extension workers in each taluk.

Coverage of foodgrains, commercial and horticulture crops

under Weather based Insurance Scheme benefiting 57

lakh farmers.

Rs.35 crores for installing remote rainguage stations in

3,700 Gram Panchayats and to establish remote

meterological centres in 550 hoblis.

Rs.50 crore to make up for shortage of electricity, for

adoption of modern technology and to instal solar power

based pump sets.

Provision to the farmers to hire from Hire Service Centres

or purchase agricultural implements of their choice

(tractor, tiller, paddy harvesting machine, sugar cane


harvesting machine etc.) and to decide the rates thereof.

Direct payment of subsidy; Rs.100 crore provided.

Merger of 26 state sector schemes into 7 schemes for

timely implementation, effective monitoring and for

avoiding repetition of components

Preparation of feasibility report for starting Agriculture

College in Athani.

Target of production of 130 lakh tonnes of food grains

during the year 2013-2014.

Rs.3,091 crore for Agriculture Department in 2013-14.

Sugar

Rs.25 crore assistance for drip irrigation to sugarcane

farmers.

In order to provide candidates with expertise in sugar

cane and sugar technology, feasibility report will be

prepared for starting a College of Sugar Technology at

Mudhol and further action will be taken on the basis of it.

Horticulture

To compensate for deficiency of vitamin A and B in 50

lakh children suffering from malnourishment of North

Karnataka, it is proposed to supply fruits and vegetables

to them by growing in kitchen gardens, school gardens,

community parks and such other places.

Rs. 50 crore for establishment of mega wholesale markets

and storage centres in all major district head quarters

and for properly equipping them and for upgrading district

level HOPCOMS sale outlets.


Rs.10 crore provided for enabling higher production of

honey by the communities by rejuvenating training

centres and by conducting skill based training

programmes in Madikeri district and other places.

Establishment of Karnataka State Spices Development

Board for the development, processing and marketing of

spices. Rs.10 crore will be provided as seed money of the

Board and Rs.5 crore as development fund.

Establishment of an expert centre in collaboration with

Indian and Dutch Governments, to organise

demonstration for the farmers regarding production,

management of superior quality Indian and Dutch

vegetable and flower crops, green house technology, labour

management and management of supply chain.

Establishment of 5 coconut products parks at a cost of Rs.25

crore, to provide better marketing opportunities to the

coconut growing farmers.

Formulation of a special plan for fertigation to increase

productivity of horticultural crops, by application of the

required fertilisers through micro irrigation system, a cost

of Rs.100 crore and an initial provision of Rs.10 crore.

Development of Model parks in 7 city corporations of the

State at a cost of Rs.2 crore each.

Construction of Glass Houses in Tumkur and Davanagere

districts on Lalbagh model.

Establishment of Horticultural Engineering and Food

Technology college under the University of Horticultural

Sciences, Bagalkot.


Rs.1310 crore provided for activities of Horticulture

Department.

Animal Husbandry

Establishment of 30 polyclinics at a cost of Rs.10 crore

and modernization of Veterinary hospital in Bangalore

Contonment.

Rs.20 crore provided for establishment of Mineral Enriched

Animal Feed Manufacturing Units in the backward areas

to develop dairy farming.

Amrith Yojane at a cost of Rs.10 crore for providing subsidy

to rural women to encourage dairy farming.

Under all round breed development, Rs.10 crore will be

provided to strengthen artificial insemination programme.

Rs.20 crore to set up cold storage units in Belgaum and

Gulbarga, dairy units at Sirsi in Uttara Kannada and

Chickmagaluru and animal fodder unit with private

participation in Bijapur.

An amount of Rs. 5 crore is earmarked for production of

vaccines for the control of epidemic diseases in cattle.

For increasing milk production in the state, the existing

subsidy schemes (Rs.2 per litre) will be continued with

an expenditure of Rs. 325 crore.

Rs. 2 crore to Goseva Commission.

RS. 1118 Crore for various programmes of Animal

Husbandry Department.

Fisheries:

The quantity of tax free diesel to mechanized fishing

increased to 1,30,000 kilo litres.


Rs. 2 crores, for developing fast growing breeds of Katla,

Rohu and Mrigal in 6.52 lakh hectares of 82 reservoirs.

Preparation of detailed reports for construction of two new

fishing harbours at Gabitwad Kheni of Ankola taluk and

Majali of Karwar taluk in Uttara Kannada district.

Extension of facility being given to the trawlers used for

deep sea fishing in the coastal areas for those with up to

340 HP motors.

Rs. 2 crore for construction of net mending sheds in various

places.

Construction of community halls in eight places at the

cost of Rs.25 lakhs each to improve the social life of

fishermen.

Rs.2 Crore for construction of fish landing points at

Krishnarajasagara, Linganamakki and Alamatti

reservoirs.

To provide space to traditional small fishing boats, fishing

harbours at Bhatkala and Karwar will be expanded at a

cost of Rs.5 crore each.

Protection walls will be constructed at an expenditure of

Rs.231 crores at 7 places (Gangolli Alive, Bhatkala

Mavinakurve, Alvekodi Tenginagudi Alive, Belambara,

Belikeri and Gangawali of Ankola taluk and Manjuguni

Alive and Vannalli of Kumata taluk).

Rs.238 crore for various programs of Fisheries Department.

Sericulture

An additional amount of Rs.11 Crore for incentives for

growing cocoons and payment of electricity subsidy to

reelers.


Rs.10 Crore for construction of a silk complex at

Okalipuram, Bangalore.

Free electricity for Agriculture:-

Continuation of the scheme of free supply of electricity to

the irrigation pumpsets upto 10 HP, Rs.5250crore subsidy.

Reimbursement of electricity consumption charges of

pumpsets belonging to the already existing and working

Farmers Lift irrigation Co-operative Societies up to 50 H.P.

Co-operation

Rs.1521 crore to benefit 15.24 Lakh farmers under waiver

of loan scheme.

Continuation of the scheme of zero percent interest for

short term crop loan from co-operative institutions and

3% interest short term co-operative loan from commercial

banks upto Rs.1 lakh. Rs.300 crores towards subsidy for

crop loan to benefit 8.72 Lakh farmers.

Rs.30 crore towards interest subsidy to 20,780 lakh self

help groups.

Rs. 45 crore under Yashaswini scheme.

Establishment of Co-operative Election Commission in

accordance with the 97th Constitution amendment.

Rs. 1 crore for payment of subsidy to enable the co-operative

societies to enroll people belonging to SC/ ST, minorities

and backward classes as members.

Rs.2 crores as capital assistance to financially weak

consumer, marketing, processing, organic and other co-

operative societies.


Agriculture Market

Starting of common facility centres at several places in

the State to provide purification, gradation and warehouse

based e-marketing facility.

Establishment of 25000 tonne capacity warehouse and

irradiation centre at Hubli, help in value addition of onion,

potato, mango, chilly, oil seeds and foodgrains.

Setting up of a modern e-marketing centre and 10,000

MT capacity dry and cold storage unit in Bijapur for dry

grapes.

In order to provide necessary warehouse facilities and to

enable farmers to get warehouse based loans, necessary

infrastructure facilities will be provided in a scientific

manner in 19 places of the State (Hubli, Bijapur, Raichur,

Bidar, Gadag, Bagalkot, Sankeshwara, Ranebennur,

Harihara, Davanagere, Challakere, Chitradurga,

Bharamasagara, Gundlupet, Soraba, Chamarajanagar,

Santemaranahalli, Mysore and Kollegala).

Laboratories and allied facilities required for classification

and grading of agriculture & horticulture produce in

Belgaum, Hubli, Raichur, Bangalore, Mysore and

Chamarajanagar through National Collateral

Management Services and other expert institutions.

For price support operations funds upto Rs.1,000 crore will

be facilitated in the Revolving fund.

An agreement with NCDEX Spot Exchange for

simplification, transparency, e-marketing and for

providing all the related documents at the spot itself

through the internet in several markets of the State.


Kagawad market in Athani Taluk will be developed for

turmeric and dry grapes.

Initiatives will be taken for development of following

markets to get remunerative prices for Horticultural

Crops:-

a. A modern market in Chinthamani .

b. A modren market for fruits and vegetables in the 48 acres

of land at Singena Agrahara on the outskirts of Bangalore.

c. Mega modern markets exclusively for fruits and vegetables

in Hubli, Dharwad and Belgaum.

d. Cold storage centre in Tumkur market

e. Direct market for agriculture and horticulture produce in

the premises of University of Agricultural Sciences,

Bangalore.

MOU will be entered into with expert institution to collect

waste in a scientific manner and to process and manage

it properly in the markets of Bangalore, Belgaum, Bidar,

Gulbarga, Tumkur, Kolar, Srinivasapura, Mysore, Singena

Agrahara and Dasanapura of Bangalore.

Training programmes to the staff, farmers and traders

regarding different techniques and process.

Rs.1428 crore for programs of Co-operation Department.

Water resources:

UKP-III Stage works already started with an estimated cost

of Rs.17200 crores. Among 9 projects, works of Mulwad LIS,

Chimmalgi LIS, Guttibasavanna LIS, Mallabad LIS, Koppal

LIS and Ramapura LIS already started; the remaining

extension of Narayanpur RBC, Herkal LIS and Bheema


flank, Nandipura and Marabihalu of Hagaribommanahalli

LIS projects will commence during the current year.

A new Rehabilitation and Resettlement policy will be

framed to safeguard the interests of people affected by

submergence and to improve their living standards.

1.00 lakh acres irrigation potential will be developed under

Stage-III up to the end of 2013-14.

Starting of lift work upto Haravanahalli distribution tank

in the first phase, of Yettinahole Yojane for drinking water

within the next few months at a cost of Rs.2,670 crore.

Steps already taken to prepare detailed project report for

providing drinking water under Yettina Hole Yojane to all

the towns and other needy villages in Kolar, Chikballapur,

Bangalore Urban including BBMP area, Bangalore Rural

and Tumkur districts, Rs.200 crore will be provided

initially.

Rs.10 crore for Integrated Water Resources Development

Proficiency Centre.

Rs.650 crore for Karanja, Vani Vilas Sagar, Jambadahalli,

Hirehalla, Kaduvina Bailu, Kenchanagudda, Kempawada

lift irrigation project of Kagawada area, Y.Kaggal,

Thimmapura, Lift irrigation project from Tunga Bhadra

river near Sasuvehally to fill up Sulekere (Shanthisagar),

Channagiri taluka and tanks of Santebennur kasaba hobli

and 60 tanks Harapanahalli and Basaveswari lift irrigation

projects of Chikkodi.

Rs. 341crore to modernize about 620 K.Ms. of dam canals

of Varija, Rajaparameshwari, Halasuru, C.D.S.,

Ramaswamy, Hullahalli, D.J.Dam, Kittur and

Kattemalavadi areas.


Rs.50 crore to implement sprinkler irrigation for 7200

acres from the water of Tumkur distributary canal of

Hemavathi project in Turuvekere taluk.

An important scheme for integrated management of water

resources which is first of its kind in our country.

Implementation of the scheme in Tungabhadra river basin

initially.

Implementation of one of the largest drip irrigation projects

in the world by KBJNL at a cost of Rs.786 crore in Hungund

taluk in an area 60,000 acres benefiting 20,000 farmers

and saving up about 1.30 TMC water.

Proposal for central assistance of Rs.4085 crore, for

improvement of efficiency in usage of water in 11.12lakh

acres by modernizing Narayanapura left bank canal and

distributary canals and adopting micro irrigation in 2.60

lakh acres.

Rs.50 crore for desilting, removal of encroachment and

rain water harvesting in Bennehalla and Thoprihalla and

Donihalla of Bijapur.

Increase in amount provided for maintainance of irrigation

projects from Rs.87.6 crore to Rs.323 crores.

Minor Irrigation

300 new minor irrigation projects at a cost of Rs.400 crore

in the talukas not included under Drought Prone Area

Development Programme. Rs.200 crore grant during this

year.

Minor Irrigation Department will be renamed as Minor

Irrigation and Ground Water Development Department by


adding ground water portion of the Mines and Geology

Department.

Resources will be mobilized to produce Rs.11500 crore to

the water resources sector in 2013-14.

State Economy

States economy is satisfactory and the Fiscal position of the

State has been sound during the last 5 years

Likely growth of states economy at 5.9%. Service sector

growth by 8.9%. Growth in agriculture and allied sectors

is 1.8%. Estimated growth rate of Industrial sector is 2.4%.

Composition of GSDP for 2012-13 is 15.32% from

Agriculture and allied activities sector, 25.91% from

Industry sector and 58.76 % from service sector.

Revenue surplus maintained since 2008-2009.

Fiscal deficit within 3% of the GSDP or the limits

prescribed by the Central Government.

Ratio of Interest payment to Revenue receipts is

maintained within 10% that is within the limit of 15%

and Ratio of Public Debt to the GSDP is within 25% limit

The per capita plan outlay of Karnataka at Rs. 6,231 in

2011-12 is the highest among major States

Budget Outlay of Rs.117005 crore which is an increase of

13.88 per cent over the budget of Rs. 1,02742 crore in

Energy

Rs. 10831 is provided for the energy sector during 2013-14

Capital investment by Government in KPCL and ESCOMs

at Rs.4175 crore after 2008-09.

Increase in installed capacity from 8660 MW during

08-09 to 13,504MW.

Increase in daily peak energy supply from 138 million

units during 2008-09. per day to 190 million units.

Purchase of 26,236 million units both from outside the

State and private producers during last 5 years.

Strengthening of transmission and distribution systems

by setting up of 300 sub-stations and laying of 5196 kms

of transmission lines, thereby reducing transmission loss

by 4% and total technical and commercial losses from

23.17% to 20.18%.


Investment of Rs.14,751 crore in power sector for capital

works. Implementation of Niranthara Jyothi Scheme for

supply of power to irrigation pump sets in rural areas.

Energy conservation measures undertaken are

distribution of 37 lakh CFL bulbs in Bangalore and Kolar

Districts, installation of 283 higher efficiency irrigation

Upgradation of 662 kms State Highways of MDR and 769

km National Highways during the last 5 years.

KSHIP-II: Development of 616 kms of State Highways at

an estimated cost of Rs.1330 crore with assistance of Asian

Development Bank (i) Pavagada to Andhra Pradesh border

and (ii) National Highway-13 Jagaluru to State

Highway 19;

World Bank: Development of 269 kms of State Highways

at a cost of Rs.657 crore with assistance of World Bank (i)

Hosakote Chintamani, (ii) Dharawada Soudatti (iii)

Choudapura Gulbarga.

Entrustment of 9 State highways on User Fee-Toll for a

period of 10 years on OMT basis for maintenance.

Development of (i) Chikkanayakanahalli Tiptur Hassan

and (ii) Dharawada Alnavara State Highways at a cost of

Rs.480 crore on a PPP V.G.F (Toll) basis.

State Highway Development Project (SHDP)

strengthening of 4130 kms of and improvement of 3122

kms of State Highways at a cost of Rs.2797 crore.

To ease traffic in Sakaleshpura - Mangalore road, a

feasibility report for construction of six lane tunnel in

Shiradi Ghats will be prepared;

Commencement of development of 3576 kms at a cost of

Rs.1357.75 crore in the second phase;

Improvement of Agumbe Ghat road and undertake road

works and bridge construction work in Shimoga.


Rs.1000 crore for PWD roads and Rs.400 Crore for the roads

maintained by Zilla Panchayats.

Coastal Protection: Coastal protection project is taken

up during 2013-14 at a cost of Rs.223 crore with loan

assistance from Asian Development Bank.

The Belgaum Suvarna Vidhana Soudha has been

constructed at a cost of Rs.391 crore in a record time.

Rs.1878 crore spent on construction of 1747 offices, court

buildings and residential quarters to Judges and others

during the last five years.

Infrastructure

Railways

Karnataka is the first State to bolster speedy

implementation of Railway projects by contributing 50%

of the cost. So far Rs. 1021 crores has been released as

State share and Rs.440 crores has been provided in

2013-14 budget as investment by the State.

Completion of Bangalore-Ramanagar railway lane doubling

Completion of the works of Ramanagar-Channapatna and

Mysore-Naganahalli railway lane doubling

Release of Rs.193 crore for new railway lane between Bidar

and Gulbarga.

Rs.2086 crore grants for improving urban infrastructure;

Rs.2775 crore for implementation of 44 drinking water

supply and 39 drainage schemes by KUWS & DB.

Infrastructure facilities including housing to 7.88 lakh

families in 3568 slum areas identified in the survey of

slum areas.

Rs.4625 crores sanctioned for Bangalore and Mysore cities

under JnNURM; 67 schemes costing 27 schemes

6966 works completed in the first phase of Chief

Ministers Nagarothana scheme at a cost of Rs.1168 crore.

205 works completed, 88 works under progress with an

outlay of Rs.1333 crores by Karnataka Urban

Infrastructure Development and Finance Corporation.

New schemes of Urban Development Sector

Rs.885 crore for Kannada Ganga Phase-I for providing

continuous water supply to all rural and urban settlements

in Bijapur district.

Provision of underground drainage and water supply to

Rs.1810 crore for development of 3000 kms of quality roads
