The monument is a replica of the Taj Mahal, with beautiful carvings built of white marble, with four minarets at its corners and a flight of steps on the four sides. It is an epitome of sacred love and sanctity a child has for the mother. This Mausoleum built by Prince Azam Shah - the son of Emperor Aurangazeb in the late 17th century is a loving tribute to his mother, Dilras Bano Begam (She is also known by her posthumous title - Rabia-ud-Daurani)

Built sometime between 1651 – 1661, the monument is an attempt to rival the Taj Mahal built by his grandfather, Shah Jahan. Azam Shah the oldest son of Aurangazeb just could get a paltry 6,68,203 Annas from his father Aurangazeb for the construction who did not allow his son to spend more money to built this structure.

Bibi Ka Maqbara is the principal monument of Aurangabad and was designed and erected by Ata- Ullah and the engineer Hanspat Rai. Ata-Ullah was the son of Ustaad Ahmad Lahuri - the main designer of TAJ Mahal.

Not as spectacular as the Taj Mahal, yet a one time visit to this monument glorifying the love and respect of a son for his mother at a time when Mughal Sultanate was declining, is worth visiting.
