The university has many societiesespecially or international and EUstudents. The International StudentsSociety (ISS) is the largest and organisesevents and social activities throughout theyear. All international and EU students areautomatic members o the InternationalStudents Society and receive regularinvitations and updates. UK bank holidaysUniversity o Brighton lectures, seminand tutorials will not be running on thUK bank holidays. There are eight baholidays in England and Wales throug2013. On bank holidays most ocesbanks, schools and universities are aclosed.

Accommodation

We can help you to arrangeaccommodation or the duration o yocourse. This may be in one o our halresidence or with a host amily.

Staying with a host can provide you wthe opportunity to speak English at has well as live in a sae and welcominenvironment. To stay with a host, you

either choose to cook or yoursel or with your host. I you choose to eat wyour host, they will provide breakast a hot meal in the evening seven daysweek.

I have really appreciated theexperience o living in Brightonand studying at the university. Ihave been charmed by Brightonitsel with its architecture, shopsentertainment and diversity. Itslocation is also perect becauseit is a seaside town but closeto the countryside, London andinternational airports.

I have been on many visits to enBritish culture in local places ointerest during my studies herewhich has helped me to practicemy English and provide me withthe skills or living and studying ithe UK.


Our halls o residence are based acrossour locations in Brighton, but all are closeto travel links and are within easy reach othe Brighton Language Institute. Our hallsprovide the options o catered (two mealseach day) or sel-catered accommodation(no meals provided). Catered hallsinclude a hot and cold breakast serviceand an evening meal as part o youraccommodation costs. Patrick BrookDirector of studies

As director o studies or BrightonLanguage Institute, Patrickcoordinates all English languageprovision or speakers o otherlanguages across the university.

For almost 20 years, Patrick hastaught across the UK, France,Italy, Cyprus and Russia. He cameto the University o Brighton tocontribute to English languageteaching and learning in 1999.

Patrick holds a BA(Hons), aCambridge DELTA, an MA in

TESOL and is also an experiencedteacher o teachers.

Sally NicholsDeputy director of studies

Sally is an experienced Englishlanguage teacher and haspreviously worked in London andBrazil. She has been teachingEnglish at the University oBrighton since the early 1990s,directs the English or AcademicStudy programme and teachesundergraduate pre-sessionalEnglish programmes and theextended masters.


Gary HicksLecturer

Gary has been involved in Englislanguage teaching or over20 years. As well as workingas a teacher, he has workedin resource management,school management, teacherdevelopment, teacher trainingand as a trainer or an educationpublisher.Now based in the UK he hasrecently had the opportunity towork in Sweden, Germany andSudan, and is currently studyingor a proessional doctorate ineducation.

Alex GoldingLecturer

Alex has taught at the University oBrighton since 2005, specialising inEnglish or academic purposes andbusiness English. Alex coordinatesthe Extended Masters programmesas well as the university-wideEnglish language supportprogramme (ELSP).

Alex holds a masters degree inlinguistics and is currently studyingor a PhD in Linguistics.

Dominic RuizLecturer

Please note that SELT results (such as IELTS and TOEFL) are only valid or two years rom the time the test is

English language profciency

The UKBA requires non-EU prospectivestudents to provide evidence that theyhave met the language requirementthrough a Secure English Language Test(SELT), with an approved test provider.

This evidence is required beore wecan issue you with a Conrmation o

Acceptance o Studies or CAS number.

Our degree courses are delivered andassessed in English. The UK Border

Agency (UKBA) and the university

will need you to meet their Englishlanguage requirements or your chosencourse. Please check individual coursedescriptions to conrm the Englishlanguage entry requirements that applyto you.
