    The university has many societiesespecially or international and EUstudents. The International StudentsSociety (ISS) is the largest and organisesevents and social activities throughout theyear. All international and EU students areautomatic members o the InternationalStudents Society and receive regularinvitations and updates. Examples opast events are a celebration or Diwali,Hanukah and Chinese New Year, a

    Thanksgiving meal, Christmas dinner andvarious trips to places o interest in the UK

    such as London, Bath and Oxord.

    UK bank holidaysUniversity o Brighton lectures, seminand tutorials will not be running on thUK bank holidays. There are eight baholidays in England and Wales throug2013. On bank holidays most ocesbanks, schools and universities are aclosed.

    The bank holidays or 2013 are: 1 January 29 March 1 April 6 May 27 May 26 August 25 December 26 December.

    Accommodation

    We can help you to arrangeaccommodation or the duration o yocourse. This may be in one o our halresidence or with a host amily.

    Staying with a host can provide you wthe opportunity to speak English at has well as live in a sae and welcominenvironment. To stay with a host, you

    either choose to cook or yoursel or with your host. I you choose to eat wyour host, they will provide breakast a hot meal in the evening seven daysweek.

    Our halls o residence are based acrossour locations in Brighton, but all are closeto travel links and are within easy reach othe Brighton Language Institute. Our hallsprovide the options o catered (two mealseach day) or sel-catered accommodation(no meals provided).     Patrick BrookDirector of studies

    As director o studies or BrightonLanguage Institute, Patrickcoordinates all English languageprovision or speakers o otherlanguages across the university.

    For almost 20 years, Patrick hastaught across the UK, France,Italy, Cyprus and Russia. He cameto the University o Brighton tocontribute to English languageteaching and learning in 1999.

    Patrick holds a BA(Hons), aCambridge DELTA, an MA in

    The Extended Masters course haimproved my English language,my reading speed and academicvocabulary. In addition, I havelearnt more about how to writean academic essay and how tond the articles and journals tosupport my ideas. Beore I cameEngland I worried about my Engability, but this course gave methe sel condence to go on to thmasters programme.

    Brighton is a brilliant place tostudy and live. For instance, theshopping centres, the beautiulseaside, the bars and the hotelsoer opportunities to work andlearn something new.     For almost 20 years, we have successullydelivered a range o programmes coveringareas such as English language study,English teacher training, business andacademic English and British culture andconventions.

    We have created tailor-made programmesor groups rom a wide range o countriesincluding Germany, France, Greeceand Russia as well as China, the IvoryCoast, Tunisia and Japan. Our clientsinclude academic sta and students rom
