Thereisamagneticclipsecuredonthegearshiftshaft.Thealignmentofthemagneticfieldlinesofthemagneticclipareevaluatedbythegearsensor,whichisscrewedtothetransmissionhousingfromtheoutside.

The3Dmagneticfieldsensorsystemisintegratedinthegearsensor.Thistypeofgearsensormeasuresmagneticfieldswhicharealignedparalleltothechipsurface.Thisensuresthateverygearshiftandengagedgearisrecognized.

LongTermEvolution(LTE)isa4thgeneration(4G)mobileradiostandard.LTEcanachieveasignificantlyhigherdownloadratewithupto100MBit/s.ThebasicdiagramofUMTSisretainedforLTE.AquickandreasonablechangeoveroftheinfrastructuresoftheUMTStechnology(3Gstandard)toLTEAdvanced(4Gstandard)isthereforepossible.

Thefrequencyrangesuseddifferdependingontheregion,andvaryfromabout700to2600MHz.Theterm"FrequencyDivisionDuplex"isunderstoodastransmissionandreceivingfromcellandbasestationsontowdifferentfrequencybands:Themobiledevicetransmits,intheUplinkchannel,whilethebasestationtransmits,intheDownlinkchannel.Eachofthetwofrequencyrangeshaveabandwidthof5MHz.Expressedsimply,thismeansthat2transmittersand2receiversineachcasetransmitandreceivesimultaneouslywith2differentfrequencies.

WithMIMOtechnology(MultipleInputMultipleOutput),itispossibleformobileradioproviderstoofferdataspeedswithalowerrorrate.MIMOisthebasisforaspecialencodingprocedurewhichusesbothtemporalandalsospatialdimensionsforinformationtransfer(Space-TimeCoding).

Asaresult,thequality(biterrorfrequency)anddatarateofawirelessconnectioncanbeimprovedsignificantly.MIMOsystemscantransmitconsiderablymoreBit/sperHzbandwidthused,andarethusmoreefficientthanconventionalsystems.InordertorealisetheMIMOtechnologyatBMWbothdataantennaspresentinthevehicleareausedsimultaneouslyforthefirsttimefortheLTEconnection.MIMOoperatessimilartotheantennadiversityintheradiosystem.Thesignalofbothantennasissent,evaluatedandcombinedtominimizeerrorsandoptimizedataspeed.
