INDUSTRY PROFILE
The discovery of several spindles, and a piece of cotton stuck to a sliver vase,
revealed that the spinning and weaving of cotton was known to the Harrappans, nearly
five thousand years ago. References to weaving are found in the Vedic literature on
the method of spinning, the various materials used.
The foundations of the Indian textile trade with other countries began as early
as the second century BC. A hoard of block printed and resist-dyed fabrics, mainly of
Gujrati origin, found in the tombs of Fostat, Egypt, are the proof of large scale Indian
export of cotton textiles to the Egypt in medieval times.
In the 13th century, Indian silk was used as barter for spices from the western
countries. Towards the end of the 17th century, the British East India Company has
begun exports of Indian silks and various other cotton fabrics to other countries.
These included the famous fine Muslin cloth of Bengal, Bihar and Orissa. Painted and
printed cottons or chintz was extensively practiced between India, China, Hava and
the Philippines, long before the arrival of the Europeans.
Before the introduction of mechanized means of spinning in the early 19 th
century, Indian cottons and silks were hand spun and hand woven, a highly popular
fabric, called the Khadi. Fabrics that use mill-spun yarn but which are hand-woven
are known as handloom.

Milestones of Indian Textiles
Today cotton is an integral part of textiles in India. Nearly four million
handlooms are engaged in weaving fabrics of nearly 23 different varieties of cotton.
Global trade in textiles and apparel is expected to increase from US $ 356
billion in 2003 to US $ 600 billion by 2010.
The textile industry accounted for 22% on Indias Rs 2,551 billion exports in
2002-03 and 17 % of Indias total exports of Rs 1.7070 billion during April-July2004. it has been predicted that post January 2005 Indias share in apparel exports
would increase from 205 % in 2003-04 to 5 % by 2008.
In 2003-04, 75 % of Indias apparel exports were to USA, the European Union
and Canada . Indias share in the global textile trade was forecasted to grow the
fastest of all countries, post-MFA, as its quota allocation in developed countries
during the MFA was among the lowest.
The growth of the Indian textile industry right from the 1970s has been
adversely affected by the quota regime, lack of industry-friendly government policies
and technological obsolescence. Yet, the industry thrived because of the assured
business under the quota system.

PRODUCTION DEPARTMENT
Introduction
To manufacture the products as per the specifications the production function
needs to organize its resources (raw materials, equipments, labour and working
capital) according to the predetermined production plans.
The function of the mill is to produce yarn. The production departments give
to more concentrated on spinning. The mill produced high quality of yarn in the over
all textile market. The mills yarn production is in various counts namely, 20s, 25s,
30s, 40s, 42s, 60s, in core yarn.
Description of Processing In General:
Theraw materials are received in the form of compressed bales which are out
and fed to fit blow room line.
The sequences of Blow room machinery opens out the compressed fibers stage
and finally present them in the form of lap sheet in lengths of 40 meters. Each lap will
weight approximately 400 gms per meter.
The lap sheets are fed to the carding engine which fractionate the fiber
minutely and send to the next machine in cones, containing approximately 16 cones of
silver. Any dust and impurity in the materials it is eliminated to the carding stage.
The material is processed two times in the draw frames. The draw frames
reduce the variation in the silver make the fibers parallel and present them in cones
containing approximately 16 Kgs of silver.
23
-
8/7/2019 Boo Pat Hi 1
24/58
The ring frame further and drafts materials about 25 times fine and also
introduces the necessary twist in the yarn. The twisted yarn is wounded into bobbins
containing about 75 gms of material each.
The ring frames bobbins are fed to the reels where the materials are in the form
of hanks containing 1000 meters of yarn. The reeled hanks are bundles in the balling
press to produce bales containing 100Kgs of yarn (20 bundles each. The finished
materials are dispatched to the customers.
Production Process:The following are the step-by-step process undertaken here.
Mixing:
After receiving the cotton according to the requirements and counts is mixed.
The mixing formula is confidential and will not be revealed. This mixing process is
done under the blow room section.
1) Blow Room:
After mixing the cotton it is fed into blow room processing machines. There
are various stages in blow room. The cotton is purified form seeds and dust each day
nearly 6500 Kgs of cotton is used for processing at the blow room and shifts to laps
can be received weight is 27.5 Kgs and the length of the lap is 40 meters. The iron rod
is used for removing the lap form scutcher.
Each lap may differ from the standard or prescribed weight. The difference of
weight is noted down and graphed. It is graphed by the blow room employees. The
workers working in blow room are paid wages on the basis of time wage system. In
the blow room nearly 6 to 10 workers are working and also have one supervisor for
this department.

Misc
A supervisor and an assistant supervisor are controlling the workers in the
mixing process. The production manager delegates duties and responsibilities to
the sectional (process) supervisors.
2) Carding:
This is the second process in the production of yarn next to blowing process.
After making enquires about laps, the laps are taken to the carding section. Here laps
are converted into silver laps by placing the lap into rotating machine. The waste and
dust particle from the lap is placed into a drum. It consumes 6 laps to produce 5 to 7
drums.
Categories of workers in carding section:
Jobber cum oiler,
Can tentee,
Relieves tenters,
Misc.
3) Drawing:
In the Drawing section the silver lap is converted into carded silver. Here
silver from cards and ambers are uneven and the silver should be uniform in gross
sectional weight through its length and make the fiber parallel. In the drawing frame a
specified number of stands of untwisted rope is combined to form one stand of
uniform thickness.

4) Simplex:
In this section the carder silver are converted into bobbins, the finished product
of this section is the input of the spinning section. There are 20 machines in this
section each machine has 144 spindles; each containing a bobbin has a weight of
1.25Kg. In this section the wages are paid on the basis of piece rate system. The
operation utilizes 2880 cones and 2880 needless per shift. In could season the
Mercury lights are used to heat the silver fiber to avoid twisting.
Categories of workers in spinning section:
Oiler,
Fitter,
Simplex tenter,
Tenter helper and cleaning boy.
5) Spinning section:
Spinning nothing but the process producing yarn. Yarns are mainly classified
into to two types.1. Carded Yarn,
2. Combed Yarn.

Study about the Process:
Yarn:Yarns are classified into three types as Warp Yarn, Weft Yarn, HosieryYarn.
Warp yarn:
In a fabric, the vertical yarns are called as warp yarn. This type of yarn is
produced with high twist and high count strength product.
Weft yarn:In a fabric, the horizontal length yarns are called as weft yarns. Theses types
of yarns are produced with low twist and low count strength product.
Hosiery Yarn:
The hosiery yarns are having more elastic property. These are produced only
to the garment field, i.e., knitted goods.
Process Study:
The cultivated cottons are in the form of
a) Bales or
b) Bora.
Cottons are occupying more space while transporting to reduce this fact, the
cottons are compressed and transport to the spinning section. The bales average
weight in 170 to 175 Kgs.

As the cotton passes through machineries the cotton gets open and be cleaned.
The beaters are used for opening and cleaning the material. According to the fiber
strength and maturity, beating points are given to the cotton. The opened cottons
formed as a lap form, le cotton sheet form.
Carding:
It is also called as a Heart of Spinning. In this section the lap is feed with
material to the machine and it is converted into sliver form i.e., thick twisted fiber.
In this section the fibers are separated and are converted into the sliver form.
Silver Lap Machine:
For the convenience of the combing process, this process is adopted. Here 18
silvers are combined and giving some draft (draft is nothing but stretching of fibers) to
the material and these materials are formulated in spools.
Ribbon Lap Machine:
It is also adapted to the convenience of combing process. 6 silver leap spools
are converted into one spool.
Comber:
Combed yarns are high quality yarn due to the absence of short fibers. In this
process 17% if short fibers are removed. These types of short fibers are called as
noils.
The percentage of removal of short fibers is fixed according to the type cotton
variety. If the short fibers are more in the cotton the percentage of noils should be
extracted highly.

Advantages of Combing Process:
This process improves the yarn quality.
It reduces the yarn unevenness.
It gives more strength when compared to the carded yarns.
It gives the maximum count strength product.
Drawing:
Drawing is the process of parallelizing the fibre towards its original position.
In this process, 8 combed slivers are converted into one sliver. It gives fibre evenness.
Simplex Speed Frame:
In this process the sliver is converted into roving Form. i.e., thick yarns form.
The fires are passed 4/4 drafting system. The rollers are rotated at different speed.
Due to the speed variation the sliver is converted into roving form. Small amount of
twist per inch is introduced to wind up into the package. It is wind up by 14 lift.
Spinning (or) Ring Frame:
The Yarn Converting Process;
It is the final stage. The roving yarns are the feed material to the spinning
department. These Roving is passed 3/3 drafting system. Due to the speed variation
between the rollers the roving yarn is converted into yarn. High twist is introduced inthis process. Different twist gives different counts.
The available counts are as follows:
(1) 20s (2) 24s (3) 30s (4) 36s
(5) 40s (6) 44s (7) 52s (8) 60s

7. CONCLUSION
The institutional training which we underwent in Q RICH CREATIONS was
of greater help in obtaining practical knowledge of various aspects of all the
departmental functions.
The Manager and the co-ordinate staff members guided and helped us to a very
great extent during our training period. And we were able to know about the financial
position, rules and regulation of the company. Their environmental policy and quality
policy attracted us very much. They are protecting the labours by giving first and
facilities if any damages occur.
The company maintains good relationship between the employers and
employee. It is the success of every organization and also we found a lot of difference
between theoretical learning and practical outturn of work.
Finally we end our report with sweet memories of the training period which weunderwent at Q Rich Creations.
