Bootstrap is a free and open-source collection of tools for creating websites and web applications. It
contains HTML- and CSS-based design templates for typography, forms, buttons, naigation and
other interface components, as well as optional !aaScripte"tensions. It aims to ease
the deelopment of dynamic websites and web applications.

#ootstrap, originally named Twitter Blueprint, was deeloped by Mar$ 1tto and !acob Thornton
at Twitter as a framewor$ to encourage consistency across internal tools. #efore #ootstrap, arious
libraries were used for interface deelopment, which led to inconsistencies and a high maintenance
burden. &ccording to Twitter deeloper Mar$ 1tto7
%& super small group of deelopers and I got together to design and build a new internal tool and
saw an opportunity to do something more. Through that process, we saw ourseles build something
much more substantial than another internal tool. Months later, we ended up with an early ersion of
#ootstrap as a way to document and share common design patterns and assets within the

&fter a few months of deelopment by a small group, many deelopers at Twitter began to contribute
to the pro+ect as a part of Hac$ 8ee$, a hac$athon-style wee$ for the Twitter9s deelopment team. It
was renamed from Twitter #lueprint to #ootstrap, and released as an open source pro+ect on &ugust
):, '())./40 It has continued to be maintained by Mar$ 1tto, !acob Thornton, and a small group of
core deelopers, as well as a large community of contributors./*0
1n !anuary ), '()', #ootstrap ' was announced. This release added the twele-column grid
layout and responsie design components, as well as changes to many of the e"isting components.
