BRE PhD Research Students Winning
OSH Student Best Project Scholarship (2017-18)
The PhD thesis of a part-time PhD research student from the Department of Building and Real Estate (BRE), Ms Yiu Sze-Nga, Nicole (姚詩雅), was adjudicated as the one of
the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Student Best Project Scholarship 2017-18 winners under the category of Postgraduate Degree Programme organized by the statutory Occupational Safety and Health Council (OSHC).
The Scholarship aimed at encouraging post-secondary students in Hong Kong to appreciate the importance of occupational safety and health in their studies. OSHC offers scholarships and prizes ranging in value from HK$ 4,000 to HK$ 10,000 this year, based on the relevance, scientific merits, quality and originality of the submission, and contributions to occupational safety and health. The student received an award certificate and a cash prize of HK$ 10,000 during the OSH Best Project Scholarship Award Presentation Ceremony 2019 launched on 18 January 2019 (Friday) at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
The winning thesis of Ms Yiu was entitled “An Empirical Investigation of the Current Application and Future Development of the Safety Management System (SMS) in the Hong Kong Construction Industry”. The winner was supervised by her Chief Supervisor, Cr Dr Daniel W.M. Chan (陳煒明博士營造師), Associate Head (Teaching and Learning)
of BRE, together with her Co-Supervisor, Ir Professor Albert P.C. Chan (陳炳泉教授工程師), Head of BRE.
