Friday 30 th January 2009 at Northumbria University CETL AfL What makes an international university experience? Come along to this conference and talk about how you can develop some of the skills and competences you might need to learn, work and live in an international environment. Mix with staff and students who have experiences of building an international community at Northumbria. Following on from the success of the CETL AfL International Student Conference of January 2008, this will be the second conference in January 2009. The conference highlights positive exemplars of internationalised teaching, learning and assessment. Students and staff present experiences of learning that have begun to prepare them for working and living in a global society. The 2009 CETL Student conference will focus on providing examples of Assessment for Learning approaches that can and have promoted an internationalised education for all students. This approach places emphasis on developing student independence and building confidence through active learning and assessment processes. The conference will showcase some Assessment for Learning type approaches to teaching and learning that may develop active involvement and ownership with the process of learning and thus improving students’ sense of themselves as members of their academic discipline. This will help to ensure that individuals’ social and cultural backgrounds become significant to the education process. As with last year the conference will be organised by a student committee and students and staff together will lead presentations and workshops. Staff and students will be invited to attend and there will be involvement from National Student networks including the NUS and the CETL National Network. What makes an international university experience? Come along to this conference and talk about how you can develop some of the skills and competences you might need to learn, work and live in an international environment. Mix with staff and students who have experiences of

building an international community at Northumbria.
