Over the years, gifts arranged to follow one’s life have proved essential to the mission of delivering the
highest quality health care with compassion to everyone, today and far into the future. The generosity
of our over 500 Valencia Society members allows Saint Francis and Mount Sinai to ensure the health

Building on a legacy of quality care…
Celebrating 20 Years of Planned Giving
In 1997, on the 100th anniversary of Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center, The Valencia Society
was established to honor the dedication and legacy of our founder, Mother Ann Valencia. The Valencia
Society recognizes those select individuals who made a gift to Saint Francis or Mount Sinai in their
estate plan through a bequest by will, life insurance, real estate, retirement accounts and various life
income vehicles. Chaired by the late Governor William O’Neill and his wife Nikki, The Valencia Society
became the philanthropic cornerstone of our second century; the foundation upon which the
continued growth and leadership of our hospitals will be built. Nikki O’Neill continues to serve as
our chair and has invited two couples to join her in this role, Ann and Howard Orr and Lynn and
John Krawski.
Tonight we celebrate the 20th anniversary of The Valencia Society, and toast the more than 500
friends who have included Saint Francis and Mount Sinai in their estate plan as an expression of their
fondness for the institution. We are grateful to Patricia and Patrick Kinney for being our hosts.
If you would like to receive information on how you can make a planned gift and join The Valencia
Society, please contact the Foundation.

Through estate gifts, Legacy Members of The Valencia Society link themselves
to the Sisters of the past and to the caregivers of the future. With ever-renewed
legacy commitments, Saint Francis and Mount Sinai will extend our mission to
serve people now and for generations to come.
The MacLeans Help Ensure Care for Mount Sinai Patients I have worked in several health care organizations throughout my career as a nurse with both clinical
and business skills.
When my husband, Jim, and I were preparing our estate plans, we decided to leave a gift to only
one institution, which is the Mount Sinai Rehabilitation Hospital.
I am proud to be part of a team that works closely together to plant seeds of hope for people
affected by a neuromuscular illness, such as a spinal cord injury. People, who come to Mount Sinai
fearful of a very limited future, are given a dignified and productive life. The team offers adaptive
sports like the Golfers in Motion program and the Connecticut Adaptive Rowing program, as well as
tools like custom wheelchairs that allow patients to lead an independent life.
We want to help make sure this care continues well into the future for those patients in need.
