With the ever increasing aging population, fragility fracture in the elderly is an important public health concern. It is associated with serious disability, long hospital stay, high morbidity and mortality rate and costly medico-social problems. Fragility Fracture Registry Working-group was established in early 2013 for the public to review statistics and information on fragility fractures. It also serves to facilitate improvements in the care of fractures. This important project is endorsed and participated by related organizations and associations in Hong Kong including the Hong Kong Orthopaedic Association. The establishment of the registry provides an auditing system of outcomes for clinicians to critically review the safety and effectiveness of treatments, and serves as a benchmark for standard care protocol to improve clinical management and patient outcomes. The establishment of a national based registry is shown to improve the delivery of care. A pilot study has started in Hong Kong. This pilot registry allows comparison with national standards, thus standardizing and improving the quality of care, for better clinical outcome at a reduced cost. The pilot registry has been conducted in Caritas Medical Centre, Prince of Wales Hospital and Princess Margaret Hospital and is going to be conducted in Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Queen Mary Hospital and Tuen Mun Hospital. Data entry and validation were done in Caritas Medical Centre, Prince of Wales Hospital and Princess Margaret Hospital. Moreover, CDARS Training was organized twice this year and International Workshop-Symposium on Fragility Fracture Registries was held from September 7-8, 2013.
