About HOPE Meetings

HOPE Meetings are international symposiums held for excellent graduate students and young researchers specially selected from countries/areas around the Asia-Pacific and African regions. They offer a unique opportunity for the participants to interact with distinguished scientists including Nobel Laureates and with peers from the regions while lodging together over the course of the event.

Launched in 2008, HOPE Meetings are held by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) to foster the next generation of researchers, while working to build collegial networks among them. They receive lectures from the eminent scientists and are given abundant opportunity to engage in interdisciplinary discussions with peers from many nations and diverse cultural backgrounds.━「HOPEミーティング」は、アジア・太平洋・アフリカ地域から選抜された大学院生等が、ノーベル賞受賞者をはじめとする著名研究

者や同世代の仲間たちと交流する合宿形式の国際会議です。

2008年から毎年、日本学術振興会の主催により開催され、今年で10周年を迎えました。

HOPEミーティングでは、ノーベル賞受賞者等による講演の他、多様な背景を持つ参加者同士の国際的・学際的な交流を通じて、

若手研究者の育成と、参加者間の将来にわたるネットワークの形成を目指します。

る講演が開催されました。

講演には、質疑応答の時間も設けられてい

ました。

Group Discussions:

Each discussion group consisted

of 20 to 30 participants. Partici-

pants conversed with the

eminent lecturers about their

research activities, future career

paths and other topics of interest

to them.

参加者20～30人を1グループとして、講演

者1名と対話する形式で行われました。参加

者は、自身の研究内容や今後のキャリアな

ど、興味のある話題について、講演者と議論

を交わしました。

ポスター発表：

Poster Presentations:

The participants were given

opportunities to talk about their

own research during the poster

sessions.

Some of them who were judged to

have achieved outstanding results

at the poster session were chosen

for the “Best Poster Award”.

参加者は、自身の研究内容についてポス

ター発表しました。

優秀なポスター発表を行った参加者には、

Program of the 10th HOPE Meeting

チームプレゼンテーション：

Team Presentations:

The participants were divided into

11 teams, each of which consisted

of multinational members, and

delivered presentations on the

last day of the HOPE Meeting.

Having diverse cultural

backgrounds, they worked

together to prepare the presenta-

tions while building international

networks among themselves.

参加者は11の多国籍チームに編成され、

会議最終日にはチームごとに発表を行いま

した。多様な文化的背景をもつ参加者が

互いに協力し、1つのプレゼンテーションを

作り上げていくことを通じて、参加者間の

相互理解と交流を促進します。

優秀な発表を行ったチームには、チームプ

レゼンテーション賞が授与されました。

文化体験プログラム：

Cultural Programs:

The participants were given

chances to attend cultural

experience programs such as

calligraphy or tea ceremony, and

to visit historical and cultural sites

to enrich their understanding of

Japanese traditional culture.

They were also given an opportu-

nity to visit cutting-edge research

institutions in Japan.

参加者は、書道や茶道などの日本の伝統文

化体験や歴史・文化施設の訪問を通じて、日

本文化に対する理解を深めました。また、日

本が誇る最先端の研究施設を見学する機会

も設けられていました。
