    Modeled aer the rst and second peace accord summits o the Carter and Clinton

    administrations, Camp David III is a two-week intensive seminar or college students and

    post-graduates on the critical and timely subject o Arab-Israeli peace. Tis is the eighth year

    this exciting seminar is being oered by Te Washington Center. Students interact directly

    with diplomats and high-level government ocials and participate in a mock international

    conerence. Tey assume the roles o real world leaders like President Obama, Israeli Prime

    Minister Netanyahu and Palestinian President Abbas to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian dispute.

    Whether you have already taken courses on the Arab-Israeli confict or this subject is new

    or you, Camp David III is a wonderul opportunity to get an inside look at the key parties

    involved in an issue that is a top priority or the U.S. and the world in the 21st century.

    Seminar Overview

    During Week One, Camp David participants willvisit the embassies o Israel and the A rab countries andhear rom diplomats at the Palestinian Mission to theU.S. Tey wi ll interact directly with top diplomatsand ocials rom the U.S . State Departments Oceo Israel and Palestinian Aairs, the pro-Israel lobbyAIPAC, the American ask Force on Palestine,the Washington Institute or Near East Policy andAmericans or Peace Now.

    During Week wo, students will negotiate theirown path to Israeli-Palestinian peace. Students willbe divided into delegations representing Israel, thePalestinians, the United States, the Arab states, theEuropean Union, and the UN. Tey will work indierent committees to negotiate issuesstoppingIsraeli settlement expansion, preventing Hamas andother militant groups rom ring rockets into Israel,opening the Israel-Gaza border, and the nal statusissues: reugees, Jerusalem, security and the borderso a Palestinian state.

    Explore answers to important questions

    How can the Obama Adm inistration convinceIsrael to support a two-state solution based on the1967 borders with land swaps?

    How can Israel prevent Hamas and other militantIslamist groups rom ring rockets, stockpilingweapons and targeting Israeli civilians?

    Was General David Petraeus right when he said theIsraeli-Palestinian confict oments anti-American

    sentiment and that al-Qaeda and other militantgroups exploit that anger to mobilize support?

    How does Israels ear o Iran, which has called orIsrael to be wiped o the map, aect its policiestowards the Palestinians and other Arabs?

    Should the U.S. and European countries begin adialogue with Hamas even i it does not renounceviolence and recognize Israel?

    Academic Standards

    Te seminar is taught as a course, with two weeksequivalent to 34 credit hours (12 credits or oneweek). Faculty complete written evaluations andrecommend a grade, sent to each students home

    institution. Evaluation is based upon attendance,completion o assigned readings, quality o writtenassignments, and demonstrated eort to achieveestablished academic and proessional learningobjectives. Actual credit and grades are awardedby home institutions through each campus/acultyliaison. Te Washington Center does not grantacademic credit.

    Eligibility and How to Apply

    College students, 18 years old or older, in good

    standing, recent graduates, and Washington Centeralumni are eligible to apply. Undergraduates musthave a Washington Center campus liaison or sponsorapprove the application and receive their evaluation.Students are not required to receive credit, but arerequired to u lly participate and complete assignments.
