    Medicine at Monash UniversityOur Faculty is unique among its Australian

    counterparts. We provide an education

    that takes intellectual, social and

    ethical development beyond theory,

    into clinical and research settings, and

    out into the broader community.

    Although Monash University is barely 50

    years old, the Faculty o Medicine, Nursing

    and Health Sciences is ranked at

    33 in the Clinical, Pre-Clinical and Health

    Universities category o the Times Higher

    Education World University Rankings.

    In 2013 the authoritative QS rankings

    placed our Medicine program

    at 29 worldwide, and our Psychology

    and Pharmacology programs are ranked at

    number 27 and 7 respectively.

    Monash is also the only Australian

    university represented within the

    prestigious M8 Alliance o academic

    health centres and medical universities.

    This elite grouping includes Johns Hopkins

    University in the United States, Imperial

    College London, the Sorbonne in Paris

    the Charit in Berlin and Universit de

    Montral amongst others. And we are

    highly prominent at the pre-eminent g lobal

    orum or global health,

    the annual World Health Summit in

    Berlin that sets the uture direction or

    health care policy and public health.

    Monash University oers a ve year, direct

    entry, undergraduate medical course

    compared with the minimum o seven

    years or an accelerated program in

    Canada. This course is only

    oered to students that have not

    undertaken any university study.

    Applicants with a Bachelors degree in

    any eld degree are eligible to apply or

    our graduate entry Bachelor o Medicine

    and Bachelor o Surgery (MBBS). The

    graduate entry MBBS is a our year course

    delivered at the Gippsland Medical School.

    Monash University is ranked 29th in the world for Medicine by the

    authoritative QS rankings.

    Melbourne has been ranked No.1 as the worlds Most Liveable City for

    the second year in a row by the Economist Intelligence Units liveability

    survey.

    Night-lie - At night, the streets light up

    with a variety o theatres, bars, night-clubs,

    restaurants and concerts.

    Bachelor of Medicine andBachelor of Surgery (MBBS)

    The curriculum is designed as an integrated

    program incorporating our themes, within

    which semester-long units are taught by

    sta rom a range o departments across

    the Faculty, in an interdisciplinary ashion.

    During the early years o the course,

    the basic medical and behavioural

    sciences (anatomy, biochemistry,

    genetics, immunology, microbiology,pathology, pharmacology, physiology,

    psychology and sociology) are introduced

    within interdisciplinary units. In all o these

    units there is a major ocus on clinical

    issues through clinical case studies.

    Students participate in community-based

    practice placements where they spend time

    working in community settings with clients

    o welare agencies.

    In the frst clinical year, students study

    integrated medicine and surgery,conducted in a ull-time hospital setting

    in conjunction with a series o problem-

    based and case-based learning sessions

    led by experienced clinicians.

    The next year is largely comprised o core

    clinical rotations in Womens and Childrens

    Health, General Practice and Medicine o

    the Mind (psychiatry) which is delivered

    as a hospital or community-based

    medical education program.

    The nal year o the course is structured

    as a series o clinical rotations, where

    students gain hands-on experience in a

    variety o disciplines and specic areas

    o interest in a range o metropolitan,

    rural and overseas settings.

    Can I practise in Canada?

    Many Canadians return to North America

    at the conclusion o their programs to

    undertake local internships and ull

    licensure requirements. Applicants

    should however careully check the

    requirements o the appropriate authority

    in their province to ensure that your

    specic circumstances or proessional

    Internship

    International students should not have

    an expectation o gaining an internship

    in Australia at the completion o their

    MBBS degree. Internship places are

    not allocated by Monash University.

    Admissions Requirements or the MBBS(CRICOS Code Undergraduate entry 017101M, Graduate entry 061237G)For international applicants, Monash University has a three-stage selection process or undergraduate medicine at Clayton and all three categories areweighted equally . Graduate Entry is weighted 40% MCAT/GAMSAT and 60% Interview

    1. Aptitude Tests

    The Faculty o Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences determines those applicants who are to be interviewed based on aptitude test result.

    Direct Entry MBBS

    For the undergraduate MBBS pre-selection is based on overall perormance in the International Student Aptitude Test (ISAT).

    Inormation regarding ISAT can be ound at: www.isat.acer.edu.au. Applicants should register or and sit this test as early as possible in the year theyapply or the medicine course. ISAT results contribute toward the overall ranking or entry into the course.

    Graduate entry MBBS

    Applicants must sit the Graduate Australian Medical School Admission Test (GAMSAT).

    The North American Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) will also be accepted or admission o international students into this course. MCAT testresults must be available to Monash University at least one month prior to interview.

    2. Interview

    Selection into the medical course is based upon a combination o the applicants aptitude test, academic studies, and perormance in aMultiple Mini Interview (MMI).

    This interview ormat allows the Faculty to better determine applicants that possess the desired personal qual ities required to succeed in the MBBScourse. The MMI ormat allows each applicant to be assessed by trained interviewers. MMI stations comprise a series o scenarios and associatedquestions ocusing on an applicants relevant personal qualities including: motivation, communication skills,critical thinking and ethical/empatheticreasoning.

    Canadian interview dates: Toronto October 29 and Vancouver November 1, 2013
