‘Key Economic Drivers’ themeof 2009 Early Bird Forums

Educated members on key community economic engines.

The Chamber presented the Economic Engagement Series at Early Bird Forums to educate members about the role economic drivers play in helping keepCoweta’s economy strong. In June, the Forum featured a panel of Coweta’s mayors.

What is it that a community like Coweta needsto know in order to develop a successful localeconomy? In 2009, your Chamber brought anextremely strong field of speakers and programsto its Early Bird Forums to answer that questionand it was one of the best we’ve ever done!

Ken Stewart, the Commissioner of theDepartment of Economic Development andGeorgia’s top industry recruiter, explained therelationship between community and the processof economic development at the February EarlyBird Forum.

In March, Carol Comer, the Aviation ProgramDirector for the Dept. of Transportation, gave anaddress on the impact of a well-run airport to acommunity. Then, in Apri l, Skip Sull ivan, president of West Georgia Technical College, provided the program addressing the importanceof post-secondary education to quality growth.

Charlie Gatlin brought his many years of

experience to the May program with his theme oftourism development, a great topic for Cowetaand its many attractions for visitors.

Some of our neighbors addressed us as well. Our municipal mayors gave a State of the Citiesprogram; County Administrator Theron Gay spokeof the all-important issue of transportation andour local state delegation of Sen. MitchSeabaugh, Rep. Lynn Smith and Rep. Billy Hornepresented at the annual Eggs & Issues breakfast.

Education, recreation and healthcare, allimportant sectors of economic developmentrounded out the 2009 Early Bird Forums.

Good, solid growth is not an accidental bit ofluck – it requires experienced people workingtogether in order to provide the community whatnew and existing businesses require. TheChamber appreciates the wonderful programsthat these outstanding individuals presentedduring the 2009 Early Bird Forum series.
