Chancellor Harris envisions IU Kokomo as a driving force in transforming North Central Indiana through education and entrepreneurship to an economy of knowledge and innovation. Previously, Dr. Harris was provost and vice president for academic and student affairs at Kettering University (formerly G.M.I.); vice president for Academic Affairs at Ferris State University; associate provost (and interim provost) at Eastern Michigan University; coordinator of undergraduate education at Eastern Michigan University and head of the Department of Political Science at Eastern Michigan University. Chancellor Harris holds a Ph.D. in public policy from Indiana University; a master's degree from Tel-Aviv University, and a bachelor’s degree in economics and business administration from Bar-Ilan University in Israel. He is a graduate of the Harvard Graduate School of Education's Institute for Educational Management and the Management Development Program. He is the author of four books and published more than 40 professional papers and book chapters. Dr. Harris serves as a political commentator to a variety of broadcast and print media in the U.S. and Israel; he taught at the Graduate Program in Public Policy at Tel Aviv University; was the V.P. for finance & marketing at Tomer Industries in Israel; served in the Israel Defense Forces and retired at the rank of major with active combat experience. Academic recognition of Dr. Harris' includes: The Kern Foundation Entrepreneurship Education Network, “Best in Class” 2009 Award; an Honorary Doctorate in Educational Administration from Ave Maria College; Distinguished Faculty Award for Teaching from Eastern Michigan University (EMU); recognition for Excellence in Teaching from the American Political Science Association; Distinguished Faculty Award from the Michigan Association of Governing Boards; recognition by the Department of the Army for outstanding support of the United States Army R.O.T.C. cadre and cadets at EMU. Chancellor Harris was born in Johannesburg South Africa and raised on a commune in Israel. He is married to Tali and they have three grown sons: Ronen, Asaf and Amit.
