Chancellor Michael Harris
Chancellor Michael Harris is the sixthchancellor of Indiana UniversityKokomo. Under his leadership there isa strong commitment to enhanceacademic excellence and studentsuccess, engage in global education,advance diversity, and build
sustainable community partnerships as a catalyst for economicdevelopment and regional pride.
Chancellor Harris envisions IU Kokomo as a driving force intransforming North Central Indiana through education andentrepreneurship to an economy of knowledge and innovation.
Previously, Dr. Harris was provost and vice president for academic andstudent affairs at Kettering University (formerly G.M.I.); vice presidentfor Academic Affairs at Ferris State University; and at EasternMichigan University (EMU), associate provost (and interim provost),coordinator of undergraduate education, and head of the Departmentof Political Science.
Chancellor Harris holds a Ph.D. in public policy from IndianaUniversity, a master's degree from Tel-Aviv University, and abachelor’s degree in economics and business administration from Bar-Ilan University in Israel. He is a graduate of the Harvard GraduateSchool of Education's Institute for Educational Management and theManagement Development Program. He is the author of four booksand has published more than 40 professional papers and bookchapters. Dr. Harris serves as a political commentator for a variety ofbroadcast and print media in the United States and Israel; he taught at

the Graduate Program in Public Policy at Tel Aviv University; he wasthe vice president for finance and marketing at Tomer Industries inIsrael; and he served in the Israel Defense Forces and retired at therank of major with active combat experience.
Academic recognition of Dr. Harris includes the Kern FoundationEntrepreneurship Education Network “Best in Class” 2009 Award; anHonorary Doctorate in Educational Administration from Ave MariaCollege; Distinguished Faculty Award for Teaching from EMU;recognition for Excellence in Teaching from the American PoliticalScience Association; Distinguished Faculty Award from the MichiganAssociation of Governing Boards; and recognition by the Departmentof the Army for outstanding support of the United States ArmyR.O.T.C. cadre and cadets at EMU.
Chancellor Harris was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, and raisedon a commune in Israel. He and his wife, Tali, have three grown sons:Ronen, Asaf, and Amit.
