FULLERTON, CAFullerton is located in northern Orange County, California. As of the 2010 census, the city had a total population of 135,161. Fullerton was founded in 1887 and secured the land on behalf of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. Historically it was a center of agriculture, most notably acres of Valencia orange groves and several other citrus crops; petroleum extraction; transportation; and manufac-turing. It is home to several higher educational institutions, notably California State University, Fullerton and Fullerton College. It is also home to major employers such as St. Jude Hospital, Heritage Healthcare and Raytheon.
Fullerton is approximately thirty minutes southeast of Los Angeles and ten minutes north of Anaheim. Orange County, California was named as one of the “Top 25 Cities for Doing Business in America” by Inc. magazine in 2004. The city has a dry climate, with warm summers that have average daily temperatures in the mid-eighties. Winter temperatures average in the high sixties and low sev-enties. Residents of Fullerton have easy access to all of the entertainment offerings of nearby Anaheim and Los Angeles. Some of the more notable attractions in and near Fullerton include: The Brea Dam Recreational Area, Disney-land, Knott’s Berry Farm, The Muckenthaler Cultural Center, The Fullerton Arboretum, The Fullerton Civic Light Opera and The Fullerton Museum Center.
CITY HIGHLIGHTSThe downtown area (a.k.a. DTF), especially south of Com-monwealth Avenue (a.k.a. SOCO), has become more of a busy entertainment district, described by the OC Weekly as “Bourbon Street West.” In less than five years, s ome 30 restaurant/bars have opened, making the downtown area much more active at night. Ranging from a mixture of Mexican cantinas and Asian bars to Jazz, live entertain-ment and unique eateries. The retail market has also seen a lot of growth. A major commuter hub is located within walking distance. Fullerton is an entertainment and retail destination.
