Introduction and Summary
Jonah 2:1-22 Then Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from the belly of the fish, 2 saying,
“I called out to the LORD, out of my distress,
and he answered me;out of the belly of Sheol I cried,
and you heard my voice.”
I love the LORD, because he has heardmy voice and my pleas for mercy.2 Because he inclined his ear to me,therefore I will call on him as long as I live.3 The snares of death encompassed me;the pangs of Sheol laid hold on me;I suffered distress and anguish.4 Then I called on the name of the LORD:“O LORD, I pray, deliver my soul!”5 Gracious is the LORD, and righteous;our God is merciful.
- Psalm 116:1-5

5 The waters closed in over me to take my life;the deep surrounded me;weeds were wrapped about my head6 at the roots of the mountains.I went down to the landwhose bars closed upon me forever;
