OUR HEROES IN THIS SPECIAL ISSUE

WE ARE HONORED TO DEDICATE THIS HUMBLE PUBLICATION TO OUR MASTER AND KING, THE IMAM (A.S) OF OUR TIMES

IMAM-E-ZAMANA (A.S.AJTFS).

When we look up for the meanings of the words ‘volunteer’ and ‘volunteering’, we come across words such as, helper, offering, giving… hence summing up to the Islamic & universal concept of charity. Charity is perhaps one of the noblest characters of a Muslim and a Human Being in general. Being a Muslim especially we are ordered to be charitable to the best of our abilities.

The Holy Quran states: “The Believers, men and women, are

protectors one of another: they enjoin what is just, and forbid what is evil: they observe

regular prayers, practice regular charity, and obey Allah and His Messenger. On them will Allah pour His mercy: for Allah is Exalted in

power, Wise.” (9:71)

On another occasion the Holy Quran states: “And We made them leaders, guiding (men)

by Our Command, and We sent them inspiration to do good deeds, to establish regular prayers, and to practice regular charity; and they constantly served Us.”

(21:73)

I feel so honored for being part of this group of most energetic & enthusiastic volunteers filled to the brim with the spirit of charity (giving & sharing). The Hussaini Foundation team most certainly made the selections with much diligence and precision. Every single one of these volunteers is gem of a human being, so young and so dedicated.

Whether it was the AIESEC program, or supporting the medical staff at the Hussaini Blood Bank, teaching and giving a good time to the not-so-privileged students of Meezan Academy & The Learning House, working with the energetic kids of CDS at HF or travelling all the way to the valley of Kashmir (Muzaffarabad) and serving Fatimiyah campus and dedicating energies for the kids in Kardala and some of those who went on the exciting trip to Kohat to work with the boys there. All of them, many first-time travellers, gave all they had, to serve their duty and achieve their goals. Everywhere our volunteers were posted, none of the people especially the students whom they worked with wanted them to leave.

Special life-time bonds of friendship and brotherhood have been developed which we all will cherish forever. Cont’d…

I myself was part of the team assigned in Muzaffarabad in capacity of Team Lead and I must share that even after having worked with professional and volunteer teams across the world, this truly was a unique experience. I am so proud of both the groups of boys and girls who selflessly dedicated their energies and shared their skills with the students, teachers and community combined.

Overall, all the volunteers enjoyed and learned thoroughly from their respective experiences and almost all of them wish to continue dedicating their time whenever next opportunity is available.

We at HF are very thankful to the families of all our volunteers for trusting us with their children so that we could help them experience the practicalities of life in their youth. It’s an honor that the parents and guardians put their faith in us and let us add our share in developing their kids who are the future of Pakistan inshaAllah.

Sincerest thanks to all the valuable and respectful Heads of the Institutions, Agha Irtiza Hassan Rizvi & his team from Fatimiyah Complex Muzaffarabad, Syed Imran Hussain Shah & his team from Kardala Muzaffarabad, Ms. Fatima Imran & her team from The Learning House, Ms. Fatima Hassan & her team from Meezan Academy, Dr. Sarfraz Jafri & his team from Hussaini Bloob Bank, Mr. Ahmad Raza & his team from Al-Asar Academy Kohat, Habib Foundation for hosting our AIESEC volunteers at Zehra & Alamdar Homes and our very own CDP Team at HF. Thanks to all the respected community members of the respective areas whose warm hospitality and love cannot be measured. JazakAllah Katheer.

As part of the volunteer team and on their behalf I would like to extend our heartiest thanks to the Hussaini Foundation team especially Ms. Sajida Hassan and Ms. Fatima Hassan for their dedication and care. Not to forget our very loving and caring Mr. Hassan Abullo, a father to all us indeed, who personally went along with all the volunteer groups to drop and pick them at and from their respective volunteering destinations outside Karachi and making sure everything was in order. Thank you Team HF.

Imam Ali (AS) says: “Offer your soul and wealth to your friend,

offer your equity and fairness for your enemy, and offer your courtesy and charity

for people. Greet people so that they will greet you.”

This edition has many adventurous stories for our readers.

Happy Reading!

Heartiest prayers for all our volunteers.

Stories from AIESEC by Syed Muhammad Shuja

This was my first experience with AIESEC and I am thankful to HF from the depth of my heart for helping me and because they are so caring, loving & honest. They do a lot of work for the youth. The kind of kids living at the Orphanage surprised us and when we met them we realized that children are blessings of God. These kids made us so happy. I was enjoying my experience so much that it was hard to spend the weekends without the kids.

There were 7 AIESEC Int’l Interns who worked with 12 HF Volunteers in Karachi for Summer Camp at Zehra & Alamdar Homes in July 2014.

It seems that it was only yesterday that I was looking for an internship when I was recommended to work with AIESEC. Truth be told, at first I was pretty much doing it for the certificate but as my wonderful journey started and I got the opportunity to work and interact with smart ,talented and adorable children, my whole perspective changed .Being the reason for their smiles &

happiness really made my heart swell with warmth. From playing hand games with the children of Zahra homes & Alamdar Junior School to re-using different materials for making new productive material gave me the chance to not only appreciate the wondrous talents and skills that children had but along the way I learned a lot of marvelous and fascinating things from them. Also I got the chance of getting acquainted and working with new people. All in all it was an amazing experience..

This time I’ll tell you (inshaAllah) about my first project in Karachi. It was my first project and also best experience in my life. I guess I couldn’t gain experience like that again in my life. Because I think to work with good people and children is the most beautiful thing in the world. First of all I want to mention about my first day in project. That day I was so excited to meet new people and I was wondered that what we would do in this project. Then I met some AIESECers and volunteers (actually I had some problem with English that days and this was hard to understand them. I couldn’t connect properly with them but now I think I improved myself in English elhamdulillah. This is also the other experience for me. They are so kind and nice people for me and thanks to them I could manage that whatever I wanted. Then they told us we had to teach them how them how they can recycle something. We made fun things using balloons, paints, paper, gelatins. We enjoyed playing and learned to work together. It feels happy to be a reason for their smiles. In short I am so glad to work with AIESEC and even if I thank them million times it is not enough. Thankyou so much AIESEC and best of wishes.

Child Development Program under Hussaini foundation (CDP-HF) had organized a volunteering program in which the youths were given a platform to show their capabilities and develop their skills. I participated in the Volunteer Teaching Program in Muzzaffarabad, AJK. Our voluntary teaching services were at Fatimiyah Educational complex.

Fatimiyah Educational complex is an organization which offers primary, secondary, F.Sc and Hawza (Religious education) level studies. This institute is surrounded in a beautiful valley with mountains, greenery and the majestic Neelum river. We were very lucky to be staying at such a beautiful place with such a spectacular view.

Our journey began on 1st June 2014. From Karachi we took a flight to Islamabad and from there to Muzzaffarabad by coaster. At Islamabad the Director of Fatimiyah welcomed us and accompanied our team to

Muzzaffarbad. The scenery on our way was outstanding and we couldn’t help but stare at Allah’s(swt) beautiful creation. Finally we reached at Fatimiyah Complex where we were greeted by Ms. Zehra & Ms. Fizza. Throughout the program we were led by Ms. Gulrukh Razi who herself volunteered services in students and teachers training at Fatimiyah. Our team stayed at the beautiful and comfortable guest house within the Fatimiyah Complex. All my team members were very supportive and cooperative hence making my volunteering experience exceptionally brilliant. I enjoyed working there and was honored to be this part of the youth program. I took the task of working with students (mostly grade 1-5) in art and craft activities and integration In English language writing & speaking skills. I introduced them with different activities like thumb impressions by using stamp, collage work, coloring techniques , drawing through their creative thinking, including speaking - writing skills and planned group activities where they wrote on the relevant topics and expressed their ideas, views and short stories. They were made to speak in the class to gain confidence. I found students to be quite energetic and at times hyperactive but they were keen to learn what they were being

taught and they took interest in it. The students had fun and enjoyed working with us. Although me and my team members faced challenges but through teamwork and our supportive team leader we were able to come over the challenges and Alhamdulillah we succeed. This all can happen when you have a Mutual understanding with your team member. I was pleased to have such a cooperating staff member who takes care of us and our needs.

The management at Fatimiyah are very warm and welcoming people and they treated us very nicely. We did sight-seeing of beautiful places of Kashmir like Waterfall, hiking mountains, dipping our feet in the cold water of river. These 15 days of volunteer service we got to spent in Kashmir will remain the golden period of my life. I got a good learning experience which I will definitely apply it in future.

I am grateful to the Hussaini Foundation for giving me this opportunity and I am very thankful to everyone who made our trip amazing and memorable. I also thank my parents and my family for their support in making me avail this opportunity.

I am an art student and this year (2014) Hussaini Foundaton selected me for volunteering in Kashmir along with a group of 8 members from which each was adroit in their respective fields. I am adept in painting, drawing and sketching so I was there as a fine art trainer. Best thing about my trip was the learning journey, the more I gave the more I gained. I learnt different dimensions of managing, teaching and handling. All the staff of Fatimiyah including their leading faculty was very kind & helpful. Their hospitality was highly appreciable. Alhamdulillah my team members were also extremely cooperative and very supportive. My job was to train teachers for decorating their display boards (classrooms & school) and conducting fundamental drawing classes with students from class 1 to 12. My course outline included soft and oil pastel work, painting, designing and giving awareness of art to the students through well managed presentation. We not only enjoyed our work but the beauty of kashmir as every evening we used to visit beautiful places from waterfalls of Darya e Neelum to the heights of Pir Chanasi and ending the daily trips tasting delicious flavors Kashmir has to offer. This was one of the best and amazing experiences of my life. I thank the Almighty Allah for the talent he gave me, because of which I was selected and after that I thank my parents and HF for believing in me.

This trip is a memory that would rule our minds for years The most amazing thing about the tour was that we learnt more than we taught. We learnt to face challenges, to handle unforeseen circumstances and to

utilize our minds creativity instead of taking the aid of google for every problem as we normally do. One of the challenges that I had to face was that despite being a medical student I was expected to teach English and arts and to integrate medicine and sciences in English teaching so that students could avail maximum benefit from my presence. This expectation compelled me to look into myself and think of what I can do. I always thought that I could never teach Arts and English but through this experience I learnt that I can. This experience opened new doors of opportunities for me and I learned more about my own capabilities. I was given chance to share my medical knowledge with older students. I had sessions on CPR (Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation), BLS (Basic Life Support), First Aid, Career Counseling for medical fields, etc. The students were keen to learn and were very loving. They knew how to respect and obey.

We were also taken for sight-seeing so that we could enjoy the beautiful sites of this mini heaven on earth. Those high mountains, deep rivers with glimsy waters, those eye catching waterfalls and fountains were so beautiful that those sites fascinate us even now when we think about them. The variety food that was given to us was excellent and yummy. In fact they appointed a lovely teacher to prepare food for us and she cooked proper nutritious and delicious food for us. We were taken care of properly and all our needs were provided for. We stayed in a beautiful guest house with clean washroom and kitchen.

For me the beauty of Kashmir and the charm-ness of this trip not only lie in the beauty of those high mountains, valleys and rivers but in the heart of the loving and caring people of Kashmir. I could see the success of this trip when I saw respect for me in the heart and mind of the teachers and students. We, the citizens of Karachi might be far richer from them in studies and technology but we are still far poor from them in faith and

humbleness. So, altogether it was a beautiful, successful and a memorable trip. We gained experience and learnt to tackle hurdles and challenges. I pray to Allah(swt), the Almighty for success of Hussaini Foundation and Fatimiyah complex and that these organizations prosper and flourish in future. and a lot of love from my side to Kashmir and its people.

Indeed, Hussaini Foundation did an excellent job in giving a direction to the energies of youth of our community. For most of the youth here in Karachi, vacations are normally spent sitting extra hours in front of computer or, in some cases, a trip to some holiday resort. For us this year’s vacations turned out to be unique. We were at one of the most beautiful destinations of this country; teaching students who were both energetic and eager to learn.

For more than 10 days, the boys team comprising of myself and other 3 fellows, were teaching in two schools of Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Our morning used to be with the primary students of Future School, Lower Chattar in Muzaffarabad. In the evening, secondary students of Uswa School Kardala, a small suburb in the outskirts of Muzaffarabad city, used to await us. These students used to come back from home, some of them walking for thirty minutes, just to attend these extra classes For the primary students at Future School, our major focus was to strengthen their basic language, science and mathematics skills.. On the other hands, sessions at Uswa School Kardala were a mixture of English speaking and writing classes, career counseling workshops and activities related to computer education, science and maths There was a high focus on how the students can be helpful in upliftment of their own locality and of this country at large in the

future. We even had a small final day ceremony where students of lower secondary made dustbins and dusters from recycled materials while those of higher secondary wrote essays and delivered speeches. In our final days of the journey, we had only one wish: as to somehow we can extend our trip or there could be a way we could permanently stay on that beautiful land. More than a month has passed since I have returned to Kashmir, yet I cherish the memories of its valleys and terrains. I, on behalf of the boys team, would like to thank Hussaini Foundation for giving us this opportunity. We believe that volunteering services like these should happen on a regular basis as it allows us to reflect on the responsibilities that we owe to our society and community. If given a chance, I would definitely present myself for regular volunteer servicing for Kashmir.

My overall experience of this volunteering service was great. It benefited me in all aspects; socially, morally, mentally and emotionally. I was not restricted to benefits but I learned many things too. It was my first experience with Hussaini Foundation but this experience helped me a lot and so I’ll make sure that this will not be my last experience with them. It benefited me socially as I made new friends like our group members; in fact I learned how to do group work because all the decisions taken throughout the trip were based on group discussions. My group leader, Mehdi Karamali, was a great leader as he guided me throughout my work and tasks and he also guided me about my aim which proved out to be very helpful. Not only my group members were my friends but also everyone we met there and also our students became our friends too. This trip was a great change too because it was so different from the tensed environment of Karachi. We were in an environment of peace and silence and so it was different and much relaxing. We visited many amazing tourist spots and resorts and I enjoyed a lot. I must admit we got emotionally attached with those people because of their hospitality. There was cultural exchange between us and the locals. We got to know about their lifestyles, foods, drinks, clothes and many different things and we came to know how a village life is different from a city life. Finally, concluding I would like to thank Hussaini Foundation, specially Ms. Sajida, Ms. Fatima and Mr. Hassan Abullo for giving not just to me but all the volunteers a once in a lifetime golden opportunity which proved out to be quite memorable. I would like to thank my parents who gave me a lot of support for this and finally I would like to urge my readers that they should come forward and join HF and should not miss this opportunity of practical learning.

YOUTH VOLUNTEER SERVICE CHILD DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM SPECIAL ISSUE

Stories from Kohat

by Raza & Yasir

Al-Asar academy kohat has opened a new aspect of life for us . The life over there is so natural and lively. The people are so patriotic and humble. Everyone is playing their part in promoting education and strengthening the nation.

We have never seen such welcoming people before. Haji Ahmed Raza received us at the airport. He is an adorable person, soft spoken with great personality. He is the life of Kohat. He has given Kohat a new direction and is striving hard to make kohat a strong educated society.

The first thing that surprised us at school was the way they were singing National Anthem. Their spirit was so high. At school we were sent in different classes. The interaction with kids was so wonderful. It was both cultural exchange and cultural shock.

We realized that the students were so fond of learning in spite of having lack of modern technology. We explained them the ways of getting into good universities, what should be their professional goals and how should they achieve them. We also taught in Madrassa in Wadi -e-Tirah. The student taught us pushto, it was fun!

Haji Sahab took us for sightseeing and at Chashma. That was the best picnic we had ever been to. All the days we spent, we learned a new lesson of happy life and concluded that community service is one of important key to make Pakistan Prosperous.

by Shan Ali

This was my second experience with Hussaini Foundation as a volunteer. Earlier I had done community service with HF at Hussaini Blood Bank. This year my volunteer service was in KOHAT.

I was there with a group of 4 other selected team mates. We volunteered teaching at AL-ASR Academy. At first I had a blank picture in my mind as I had no idea what it would be like to be at a new place and dealing with students of a society who lacks behind from modernization. What I knew before leaving Karachi was that all my work would be related to education and guidance. 7

th July, 2014 was our first day at Al-ASR school. Interaction

with the students included not only giving them knowledge but also teach them. This experience took me to a whole new level as it was not confined to education but a complete new perspective of life.

We did not teach much rather we provided them with the knowledge of modern age fields of education. We encouraged them to build up their confidence and come up in the society.

Unfortunately due to uncertain city circumstances our time period of teaching there was only for two days. We were then taken to Orakzai Agency. There our stay was for 3 days at a Madressa. We had very short time there in a school and we could not do much. Overall, this experience taught me a lot and helped me in recognizing my abilities. These sorts of programs should be conducted on more frequent basis not only in summer as it helps the youth of community to groom.

Stories from Meezan Academy by Kauser Fatima Karam Ali

It was my very first experience being a volunteer of Child Development Program of Hussaini Foundation. I chose to go to Meezan Academy where my personal experience was great. Students at Meezan Academy were polite and obedient. My co-volunteers were very helpful and co-operative. Personally this volunteer service encouraged me a lot towards my goal. It brought in me, confidence and courage that we can do something to serve humanity. This summer camp was basically for the remedial students. We were told to solve their problems. I am thankful to Ms Fatima for helping us in sorting out the problems of students. We planned some interesting activities to make the summer camp beneficial for the students. We also celebrated some special days marking them as Blue day, Health day, Movie day etc. Students and co-volunteers made my summer memorable. I think these kind of youth volunteer programs should be held each year so that the youth get a chance to serve the community and attain internal happiness and discover the hidden potentials within. I am thankful to Hussaini foundation for providing us an opportunity to grow & learn and for helping us utilize our vacations in a useful manner by serving our community.

by Ali John

I would like to share my short experience at Hussaini Foundation as part of their youth volunteer program held at Meezan Academy. Although I joined quite late due to some reasons, the experience I had was amazing and sufficient enough in building that will, to continue with volunteering next year as well. All the arrangements were perfect. The fellow volunteers were great having the highest possible level of devotion and enthusiasm towards the work required. I personally, got to learn many things from the program. Coordination, teaching skills, and of course great experiences with the kids were the main gains of this program. The children also loved this, and even after 12 noon, that was the closing time, they were there in the school premises, asking for some more time for the activities. During sports, I mainly played football with the children and they got to learn much from me too! The time spent there was awesome. Ma’am Fatima was leading the program at Meezan Academy and was very encouraging. I would like to thank all the organizers for providing such a great platform for all of us. Thank You.

by Maham Zehra

I had always wanted to experience the feeling of doing volunteer work. I have a soft spot for children in my heart, and when I heard of this program I decided to apply at the Hussaini Foundation. I was sent to Meezan Academy and it was a great experience. The children were the sweetest and most obedient. I volunteered for less hours than others, but still the children quickly made friends with me. We had the days divided up like Blue Day in which the children watched Rio2 and wore blue clothes. Then there was the Art Day in which they made photo frames, decorated pots and many more interesting things. We would often also go downstairs for outdoor activities and games like badminton, cricket and dodge ball etc. On the last day, the volunteers organized a surprise goodbye party in which we had arranged a treasure hunt. Then we even had a one dish party for the volunteers. A tight bond was formed between the volunteers and children, so it was kind of difficult to say goodbye to each other. These days were probably the best ones of my life.

by Shan-e-Zainab

I rendered volunteer service at Meezan Academy which was conducted by Hussaini foundation. I feel really proud to be a member of this organization because it is a platform which has provided a worthy opportunity specially to the "YOUTH". I really enjoyed those sixteen days and it would not be wrong if I say that those were the golden days of my life and I'll remember them till my last breath. I cultivate many qualities in myself and I came to know about my own talents, in short I found my hidden talent! I would like to thank Ms. Sajida and Ms. Fatima who gave me this worthy task and I hope that somehow I have fulfilled their expectations too. In the end, I hope that I will be given more chances in future also so that I come up with more talent and exposure.

by Roohe Fatima

It was my first experience at Hussani Foundation. I enjoyed this youth volunteer service and learnt how to manage tasks in short time. On 2nd June, 2014 my first day at Al-Meezan Acdemy was bit confusing as I had no idea what I was going to do. I got 3 children of grade I. I really enjoyed with them, taught them about sink & float, numbers and I did different activities with them. Everyday students did some new activity and then all students from grade I – VII go for playing. At Al-Meezan we had movie and blue day, all students had real fun. Management had appreciated all the volunteers on their hard work. It is the best way to improve the skills of the weak students and It is really helpful for youth to learn and explore their abilities, it further encourages them to get themselves involved in useful activities in their leisure time. These sort of programs should not only be conducted in summer but also during weekends so youth can grow and enhance their skills.

by Sehar Fatima

Today I get a chance to write about my experience as a volunteer for the Hussaini Foundation. First, I would like to thank Ms. Sajida Hassan and Ms. Fatima Hassan, for providing me this opportunity. I was selected for Mehmoodabad program based at Al Meezan Acadmey. I was part of the 16 volunteers selected for this program. This was the summer camp for the student of Meezan Acadmey, where we had to teach the students who were facing problem in learning. We are given the task to teach them with different activity/method so they understand better. And some students are there for playing or arts and crafts activity. All the students of Meezan were very energetic and creative. I haven’t seen these types of student in my whole life because they were never get ready to go back home, they wanted to stay in school for whole day. We celebrated blue color day in which we showed them the movie Rio. Regularly we taught them one or two subjects and then we took them for playing. Their last week was full of enjoyment. They use to go for art work in which they learned to make flowers, photo frames with the help of ice cream sticks etc. On last day we gave them surprise party and distributed certificates. The teachers of Meezan were very co-operative and all co volunteers did their work with collaboration, I enjoyed a lot with all of them. Saying goodbye was difficult. It was my first and memorable experience with Hussaini Foundation and if I get the chance I will definitely do this again.

Stories from The Learning House by Hasnain Raza

I am here to share my experience of volunteering at The Learning House (TLH) which is situated in Manghopir, Karachi. I was part of a group of six volunteers. It was a great experience and we were told that the children there are attending summer camp and these were students with learning difficulties but when we went there and started teaching. We were surprised to see their talent. All the students over there were pleased to see us and they welcomed us very warmly. On the last day we arranged a party over there and when we left the kids gave us gifts so we could remember them.

by Hadi Makhraj

I would like to share my experience of volunteering at Hussaini Foundation. I was sent to Manghopir in a school called The Learning House. Here I had to teach the students’ along with six more volunteers. My co-volunteers were strangers to me at the start of this session. I remember my first day at Manghopir’s School which began with a warm welcome for us. We were a bit confused on the first day as we were all new in a strange place and with new people. We started our classes with introduction of students and it was fun interacting with them. As days passed we all get familiar to each other. We were following a schedule where we had to teach Maths, English, Science, Arts & Craft and Sports. When we went in class all student gathered around us and always asked us to take them for sports or arts & craft instead of doing Math, English and Science. They were very good at football. All the students of The Learning House were loving and caring. My overall experience was excellent. It was first time I got opportunity to teach these students and I wish to teach them in future if I get the chance. Lastly, I would say that, to be a professional teacher is not easy and now I will salute all my teachers who taught me. I also thank HF who provided us this platform to show our talent and for learning so many things in practical manner.

Experience at Hussaini Blood Bank by Sarah Fatima Jiwani

I was part of Child Developmnt Program organized by Hussaini Foundation and gave my services as a volunteer at the Hussaini Blood Bank. Today I am honored to share my experience and views on behalf of all my team members. The experience was overall amazing. We got to know about Thalassemia patients, how the blood is transfused and the most important thing how to take the history of patients. So it was a good learning experience. I would like to request that we should get more opportunities to volunteer in other places so that we can get more experience.

Stories from Child Development Program by Raazya Batool

Working under HF was a great experience which resulted in boosting my confidence and giving me positive-ness throughout. Children with their natural sweetness and liveliness made me enter into a world of joy. My very first voluntary service experience turned into a memorable one. Serving as a science teacher made my concepts clearer & better and my learning also improved. Children were friendly and enjoyed with us. Hope more platforms and activities will be provided in future through HF especially with children.

HF provided me with teaching opportunity which was a wonderful experience. Literally teaching children just one or two years younger to me was fun. This was a lovable experience full of friendship. Al though for the first time under HF staff’s guidance my expertise came out, I feel that I can do much more if HF provides me opportunity again.

This was my first time working as a volunteer at Hussaini Foundation and I had the best summer experience one could ever have. I was working with a few other volunteers as a part of the summer camp held at Hussaini Foundation. It was fun teaching all the little kids, and see smiles on their faces and it was satisfying to see that the students who were shy to speak in the beginning, also started talking and participating in the activities. I had a very nice time with all my co-volunteers, who were very cooperative and friendly which made the experience even better. I was there to teach but along with that I learnt a lot too. I learnt how to handle students with different behaviors, how to work with different people, most of all I learnt working for others.

I was chosen as a volunteer to work for the summer camp organized by Hussaini foundation. My experience throughout the course was completely different from the past year. This year we were supposed to work with children from age group 4-6 & 7-11 for four days a week. All four days were divided in different subjects and I was supposed to conduct Mathematics with younger children, it was quite a difficult task to understand Children’s mind/skill level and then plan activity accordingly. With little efforts the work was done. Before meeting these children, I thought they would be a challenging lot to deal with but instead they were all so cooperative. I was little worried about the younger children will they be able to adjust or not but Alhamdulillah they all adjusted with the environment and volunteers. Together there were 20 children in each group; my whole experience was amazing and I enjoyed so much with all the children.

In group 1 we had some children who were shy, some aggressive, some were cute, some silent, and some were facing challenges related to speech. Some children were challenging for us, there were two boys who used to reply so fast and not letting the teacher complete the sentence and not letting others speak. To make the shy ones speak and interact was another challenge but Alhamdulillah most of them by the end of the session were so lively and interactive which made me feel really happy.

I loved watching expressions of success on the face of children. I remember when I asked one of the child to copy some words and she started to, and when she was done the look of confidence on her face made me feel out of this world. At that moment I realized how important it is to boost up a child’s confidence in order to make them a complete personality.

In group 2 some of the students were extremely intelligent so we had to split this group again in two age groups. We conducted different scientific activities as per their level and everyone took great interest. These children performed a role play and planned farewell party which was so amazing and one of the memorable days.

Throughout the CDP-HF summer camp I found Ms. Sajida to be an amazing supporter and guide. I learned many things like accepting responsibilities and the best thing I gained is that I have started trusting myself. My experience was wonderful and looking forward for some similar volunteering experience.
