The Counterplan and the Present of the

Historical Problem between Korea and China

Ha, Do Gyeom

A tense over historical issues between South Korea and China is

a problem that cannot be compromised as it is related to key

interests including peace and stability in the Korean Peninsula,

ethnic Koreans in the northeastern China and disputes over Gando

(known as Jiandao in Chinese).

There is a limit to what extent the government can solve these

problems through diplomacy. To handle such problems, private

sectors, especially academic circles, should put efforts to conduct

more systematic, in-depth historical research and prepare measures

to effectively preserve historical remains.

It is also critical to prevent some politicians, journalists and

scholars from spreading populist discourse for their own interests

for any kind of reason.

A future-oriented strategy is needed to deal with the historical

problems between Korea and China based on a long-term plan to

accumulate critical historical documents and systemize the

evidences.

By doing so, Korea will be able to more confidently counter

historical callenges from China.

The time has come for Korea to seek ways to modify China's

() 343theory in its own perspective, at least partly, to solve historical

disputes between the two nations, promote academic exchanges and

preserve historical remains.

From now on, South Korea will have to make a long-term

strategy to get to the bottom of the historical disputes with China.
