  • Church and State Relations

  • Dalawang tagapag-alaga sasangkatauhan:

    1) Ang Simbahan - (para sa gawaing pang-kabanalan)

    2) Ang Estado - (para sagawaing pangkapwa)

  • “Sacred and Social” –

ang paraan ng pagbubuo ng pamayanan–

sa ekonomiya, politika, batas, at sa mga

    patakaran ng gobyerno– ay nakaka-apekto

sa karangalang pantao at sa kakayahan ng

isang tao na tumubo sa komunidad at

    lipunan.

    Government—by its policies--directly

    affects human dignity.

  • We see for example how our greatest

    moments of CITIZENSHIP and

    NATIONALISM in this country

    were also moments OF THE

CHURCH -- EDSA I, World Youth

    Day, etc.

Our greatest moments as a people, were

    also our greatest moments as

    Christians and believers of God.

  • The Church Social

    Teachings

The church’s response to the social

    events happening around the world.

  • Prenotes:

    1) Social Teachings coming from

NATURAL LAW – a reflection on

what it is to be human (universality

    and the eternity of principles).

    Therefore NOT just for Catholics.

    Therefore NOT just for NOW.

  • Prenotes:

    2) Norm/Standard: How to live in the

context of a society. And how

society should act in the context of

what it really means to be human.

    3) As MIRROR to the world: this is

what the Church stands for AT

    ANY GIVEN TIME.

    4) Adidas : Things may change. But the

    essentials remain.

  • Dahil ang Diyos ang nagbibigay,

    at nag-aayos ng lahat ng

    bagay, ang awtoridad ng tao

    ay nanggagaling sa Kanya.

The Social Teachings of the Church

God is the SOURCE of Authority

  • We know this in theory:

We ascribe to the idea that our Office is

a CALLING. We hear politicians talk

about running for elections as a CALL.

Whether they are right or wrong, or

    motivated by right or wrong

motivations, we realize that there is a

sense (or at least they want to be

perceived as ascribing to this sense) of

    CALL.

  • THE SOURCE of AUTHORITY is God.

We see our positions in our organizations as

GIFT, as CALL: vocare. Voca (that which

    gives me voice).

In fact, to lose this sense of VOCATION is

the beginning of the end for most leaders.

  • Social Teachings of the Church

We need AUTHORITY to have ORDER in Society.

    Dahil dito:

Ang mga miyembro ay hinihimok na gampanan ang kanilang tungkulin bilang mamamayan at makipagtulungan upang mapabilis ang pag-unlad ng lipunan.

  • “Obedience to civil authorities has as its basis

the responsibility of each person, and

because it is part of the order intended by

God, it is an act of reverence and homage to

the Creator.” (Pacem in Terris 50)

  • Social Teachings of the Church

    Political Authority is NOT absolute.

    It shouldn’t go against:

    1) Moral order and human rights

    2) The common good

    3) The legitimately constituted

    legal order (i.e. the

    Constitutions)

  • We must especially bear in mind that when

    human power commands something

    clearly opposed to these three--that

command is void (Immortale Dei 11). In such a

case, the just thing to do is not to obey it

(Libertas Praestantissimum 2l), for it is an

    evident abuse of power.

  • Why does the Church involve itself in Politics?

Because it is the Church’s responsibility to

safeguard human rights, the common good,

    and the legal order.

Pag hindi siya makikialam, hindi niya ginagawa

    ang kanyang tungkulin bilang Simbahan.

If the Church will not involve itself, then it

    ceases to be CHURCH.

  • The Responsibilities of a Christian in Politics (Mamamayang kristiyano at Kristiyanong

    mamamayan)

Mahirap makialam lalo na pag pagod na

    tayo sa pulitika.

Lalo na pag hindi natin nakikita ang epekto

    ng ating ginagawa.

Sa mga kabataan, lalo na dahil “bata” pa

    tayo.

    “pag wala tayong pananampalataya hindi

tayo tatagal” “pakapalan ng mukha na

lang ‘to”: faith of the sower of the

    seeds)

  • The Responsibilities of a Christian in Politics (Mamamayang Kristiyano at

    Kristiyanong mamamayan)

    Kayo naman ngayon.

What can you do that is

    within your power

    within your influence

    Do-able?

What is your dream for your community

    and for your country?

  • Tungkulin ng Kristiyano sa Pulitika

    •Maging maka-bayan

    •Magsilbi sa pulitika

    •Maging responsable sa ibang tao

    •Magtanggol

    •Aktibong makilahok sa mga usapin

    •Ipagtanggol ang mga karapatan

  • Tungkulin ng Kristiyano sa Pulitika

    •Maging instrumento sa pag-preserba ng

    buhay

    •Makipag-tulungan

    •Maging responsable habang gumagawa

    ng aksyon.

    •Para sa katotohanan.
