Church of St.Anthony

And this is the will of the one who sent me, that I should not lose anything of what he gave me, but that I should raise it on the last day. For this is the will of

my Father, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him may have eternal life, and I shall raise

him up on the last day.” -Jn 6:39-40

We remember especially our dearly departed

loved ones from our parishes from the past year.

Please pray for them.

A Message from Father AaronPraying for the Dead…and to the Saints

Dear Brothers and Sisters,Around this time of the year as many make family

plans for Thanksgiving and Christmas, it is also a time we remember those beloved that are no longer at the table with us. It is important and healthy for us to remember and pray for our beloved dead. Both St. Anthony and Assumption have great traditions of remembering the faithfully departed in special ways at Mass during this season.

November is the month of the “Holy Souls in Purgatory, or Month of the Dead.” As Catholics, we believe that at the time of death, if the soul has not reached a state of perfection, (“You must be perfect as my Heavenly Father is perfect.”) the soul undergoes a period of purification in purgatory before entering into the presence of Almighty God. This soul that enters purgatory will never suffer the eternal pains of hell but is saved and will enter heaven one day after the period of purification in complete. “The souls of the just are in the hands of God, and no torment shall touch them.” (3:1-3)

However, we should always strive for perfection in the spiritual life. As we strive for perfection in sports, work, hobbies, etc., (as we should) why would we not strive for perfection in our spiritual lives and “skip” the pains of purgatory to enter straight into the joys of heaven? Jesus says in John 17, “…that they may be brought to perfection as one, that the world may know that you sent me.” In other words, we should strive to be Saints! Why would God not want to make his children holy and bring about his glory through them for the world?

If this sounds like and unrealistic goal, I suggest reading the stories of the Saints more often. The Saints often were had ordinary and humble beginnings but cooperated with God’s grace in extraordinary ways and God made them Saints. “All things are possible with God.”

We may have a long ways to go (I know I do!) but praying to and reading about the holiness of the Saints is an extremely helpful and a necessary practice. One might say, there is the Old Testament, the New Testament and the Testament of the Saints. This month consider picking a Saint to learn more about, and the pray to them often. They are waiting for us to call upon them. All you Holy Angels and Saints, pray for us!

God bless you, Father Aaron

2017 Diocesan Ministries AppealThis past week the 2017 Diocesan Ministries Appeal packets were mailed to all homes in the diocese. This year’s theme is, “Together We Are One.” The DMA offers us an opportunity to do our part to support the ministries that help to build the Church right here in the Diocese of New Ulm - ministries and services that no single parish could provide. Each one of us has been blessed by God’s generosity and for that reason, we have a spiritual need and desire to return some of that blessing back to God. If you are able, please consider becoming a member or continuing a membership in the Bishop’s Guild for those who contribute $1,000 or more to the DMA. Be assured that your gift will only be used to support those ministries designated in the DMA brochure and no other.

Wednesday Night Eucharistic AdorationAll are welcome to Eucharistic Adoration on Wednesday nights from 6:30-7:30 during Faith Formation classes. This will be available each Wednesday except when there is a youth Mass (youth Masses are generally the 1st Wednesday of the month). The next date for Adoration is November 8.

Trees for the St. Anthony GroundsWe now have all the tree “sponsored.” Thank you to everyone who participated. Memorial markers will be made for each tree and the names and donors will be published in the bulletin once finalized. Thank you!

Prayer PartnersAll parishioners are encouraged to take a confirmation student’s name from the baskets at the church entrances. Please pray for that student as they prepare for Confirmation. You are his/her anonymous "Prayer Partner."

Catholic United Financial Thank YouSt. Anthony Faith Formation has received a donation from Catholic United Financial. This donation was made possible through their RENEW program where new members can chose a Catholic School or Faith Formation program for a donation. Thank you to Catholic United Financial and its new members for picking the St. Anthony Faith Formation program!
