On Wednesday the 8th of January Crossmolina Deelrovers Bórd na nÓg Club Chairman, Enda Lavelle and Secretary, Michael Hegarty had the pleasure of bringing the All Ireland Minor Cup the Tom Markham Cup to all the schools in the parish. Accompanying the cup were the three club members Conor Loftus, Hugh Cafferty and Fionan Duffy who were part of the All Ireland winning Mayo Minor Team. Two of the coaching team, Michael Fitzmaurice and Deelrovers own Barry Heffernan also accompanied the lads. We would like to thank all the teachers and pupils who extended a warm and colourful welcome to the young footballers. Also a special word of thanks to Deelrovers hardworking PRO, PJ Hughes who was on hand to take photographs throughout the day. Also in January Bord na nÓg commenced a Fun Fitness programme for U8s, U10s and U12s on a weekly basis at the Sports Hall in St Tiernans Park. This proved to be a great success. The Deelrovers Bord na nÓg Annual Presentation night was on Saturday 22nd of February in Hineys @ 5pm. Special guests on the night were our clubs 3 All Ireland Minor Champions. Players of the Year for 2013 were; U10; Brian McKinley, U11; Niall Coggins, U12; Robert Murphy, Nat Schools; Eoin McDonnell, U13; Conor Caden, U14 & Dr MlLoftus Award; Niall Maughan, U15; Keith Gilroy, U16; Nigel Caden, U18 Conor Loftus.

Team Summary;

2014 U6s U6s Girls & Boys training commenced indoors in January, went outdoors in April and continued indoors from October. They took part in ‘Go Games’ blitzes. There are great numbers attending the training sessions and well done to those of you parents who are staying on and helping out our coaches.

2014 U8s

2014 Crossmolina Deelrovers U8s

U8 Boys, training commenced in January with the Fun Fitness and the football started in April and ended in October. They took part in ‘Go Games’ blitzes and also had several challenge games during the summer. We played Breaffy for the Fergal O’Boyle Memorial Cup before a senior league game vs the same opposition. The sideline for Breaffy had a very strong Crossmolina connection, nearly all their coaches were ex Deelrovers representatives. We concluded our outdoor season with a blitz versus Ballina.

2014 U8 & U10 Girls

U8 & U10 Girls For the first time in many years we had separate teams for our U8 and U10 girls. Training was held once a week from April to October and our girls partook in several challenge games both home and away. The girls also competed in a series of Blitzs with the other teams from all over Mayo each Saturday during the summer.

2014 U10s.

2014 Crossmolina Deelrovers U10s We played Ardagh Twice, Belmullet Twice, Knockmore , Ballina, Ardaree , Achill, Lahardane twice. In August the U10 team and coaches had a trip away to Celbridge, where they competed in a blitz. They played teams from Dublin, Kildare and Lonngford. This proved to be a great experience. This year we entered two teams in the Knockmore tournament. Our second team won five out of six games they played, and our first team won the competition outright. This is the first time since we started competing in this tournament that we have been outright winners, a great achievement by all involved.

U10 Knockmore Blitz On Saturday the 06/09/2014, 22 young boys went to knockmore to represent the Deelrovers in their annual under 10 blitz and wow did they do us proud. We entered 2 teams one in the Jackie Mc Loughlin Cup and one in the Paddy McHale Shield. In the cup 16 teams took part from all over mayo and included team Clonguish from Longford. In the Deelrovers group there were 3

other teams ,Charlestown , Parke B , and knockmore b. Crossmolina won the 3 games in their group thus advancing to the semi final where they played Belmullet and where they won a hard fought battle against a strong Belmullet team thus advancing to the final where the played Park A, a game they won and thus winning the Jackie Mc Loughlin cup for the 1st time for Crossmolina. In the Paddy MC Hale shield was run on a league basis there were 6 teams involved. During the league Crossmolina beat Ardmoy b, Ballina c , Knocmore c and Clonguish b only loseing to Aughmore b. During the blitz they played some fantastic football and In doing so they came second in the league winning the silver medals. After been presented with the cup and the medals it was back to Crossmolina where a convoy of cars went through the town bringing back memories to some of the older members of the management team . After that is was back to the clubhouse for some well earned pizza and chips and the end to a great day. Report Donal McDonald

2014 Crossmolina Deelrovers U11s Winners of North Mayo Section 2 Cup.

Competed in the North Mayo league in September and October. We won five out of six league games and qualified for the Division 2 Final at James Stephens Park in September. We played excellent football on the day defeating Kiltane on a scoreline of 8-14 to 3-05.

2014 Crossmolina Deelrovers U12s.

All games were played on the Go-Games format and were max 11 a-side. The idea is to give everyone some football every evening there is a match. This ensures that all players are provided with plenty of football. We played in 8 competitive matches and 4 challenges during the summer. Also this year a skills competition was introduced. The divisional final was held at St Tiernans Park at the end of September. Our four representatives John Tolan, Killian Fergus, Niall Coggins and Diarmuid Walsh won the inaugural North Mayo divisional title. The lads then represented North Mayo at the County Finals held at the Connacht Center of Excellence at the beginning of October

2014 Crossmolina Deelrovers Combined National Schools Team North Mayo B

National Schools Finalists.

Our combined Nationals Schools Team reached the North Mayo B Final this year with a semi final victory over Kiltane. In the Final we were well beaten by a very strong Naomh Padraig team. A special mention to Crossmolina National Schools Girls and Boys teams who competed in the Mini 7’s, the girls reached the County Semi Final, and also the Cuman na mBunscoil competition where both boys and girls teams reached their divisional finals. A great deal of credit is due to all the coaches who helped out and to the school staff for entering the completion.

Jack Judge Cup Edwards Gough’s team dominated this Jack Judge cup final first half and went in at half time leading by 5 – 8 to 1 – 4 with Edwards sister Annie Gough and Niall Maughan doing all the scoring Diarmuid Walsh scored 1 – 4 for Thady Connor’s team. The second half Connors team came back with goals from John Tolan Diarmuid Walsh and Thady himself scoring a brace of goal’s. Edward grabbed another goal to put the game beyond the gallant Connors team who had no luck in front of goal in the first half hitting the wood work a couple of times. The final score 6 – 12 to 5 – 9, Conor Loftus presented the Jack Judge Memorial cup to Edward Gough

2014 U14s

2014 Crossmolina Deelrovers U14s North Mayo B Finalists.

The U14 competed in Division 3 of the county league. This division had some very strong sides and with our limited resources we struggled in a few games. We competed in the Mayo D Championship. We started with a good win away versus Achill, lost out in a high scoring encounter to Bonniconlon at St Tiernans Park, and a five minute goal blitz of five goals by Westport in the final group game put an end to our championship. This year the Féile competition was held in Connacht. Crossmolina Deelrovers played host to the Scotland U14 team. In our group games played in Tubbercurry on the June Bank Holiday weekend we beat Yorkshire and lost to Curry. We then played Scotland in St. Tiernans Park before returning to Tubbercurry for our Shield quarter final against Aghamore. This was a very competitive game and we lost out by a couple of points. Aghamore went on to win the Shield competition outright. The Deelrovers Club sponsored Hoodies for all of the U14 squad. The final competition of the year was the North Mayo B Championship. We beat ArdMoy in the semi final and were paired with Erris St Pats for the final. The final was played in Kilfian and was an excellent game. Our young Deelrovers missed a few chances early on which proved costly in the end.

Crossmolina 4-02 Curry 6-07 This game proved to be a much tougher test. A very good display in the first half by the young Deelrovers left just 2 points between the teams at halftime. Curry played very well in the second half keeping Crossmolina scoreless with a combination of good defending and some fine saves, the scoreline was a tough reflection on a very good Crossmolina performance. Crossmolina 1-06 Scotland 3-05 Crossmolina hosted their Scottish visitors at St Tiernans Park on a bright and breezy morning. The young Deelrovers tore into the visitors and with the breeze reached the half time break with a lead of 1-06 to 1-01. The Scottish lads made the most of the conditions in the second half and gradually reduced the lead. Two quick fire goals in the last five minutes eased them in front. Crossmolina defended valiantly and struggled to create chances for themselves. All in all a fine

game of football. After the match presentations were made between the Scottish coach Ronan McCarthy and Deelrovers Chairmen Eamon Howley and Bord na nÓgs Enda Lavelle. Crossmolina 2-01 Aghamore 3-05 This quarter final of the Div 6 Féile shield was a keenly contested affair. The game a much closer affair than the scoreline would suggest. Halfway through the 2nd half only 2 points separated the teams. The Aghamore goalkeeper pulled off a great save from a Keelan Hegarty shot. The play went straight down the other end and Aghamore scored a fortuitous goal from a speculative high ball. The young Deelrovers had a few chances thereafter but had their eye on goals to redeem the game and were not lucky enough to get any. Well done to the Deelrovers on a great performance. Aghamore progressed to win the final in this section. Achill 1-05 Crossmolina Deel Rovers 3-07 Crossmolina’s first game of the 2014 Mayo U14 Championship took them to Davitt Park, Achill on Thursday 12/6/14. On a bright and breezy evening both teams settled to the task well. The home side took advantage of the conditions as the Deelsiders struggled with the cross field wind. While Crossmolina scored first through Daniel Howley, Achill hit back with 1-02 of great quality and put the visitors rearguard under pressure. The defence stood firm, and assisted by some competent fielding by goalkeeper Christopher Walsh held Achil to two further points for

the first half. At the other end Crossmolina through Edward Gough and Cian OBoyle, hit two points but also the side netting and several wides. Half time score Achill 1-04 Crossmolina 0-03. The second half was well contested and end to end football. Crossmolina closed the gap to one point with well taken points by Lorcan Loftus and Eoin McDonnell. While Achill hit a wide at the other end. On their next attack Achill were denied a near certain goal by a brave goalline save by goalkeeper Christopher Walsh. Within two minutes Crossmolina had scored a major at the other end, a fine finish to the net by Conor Caden. Robert Murphy added another point to leave Crossmolina two points to the good. Achill pressed hard and were denied goals by another great save from Walsh and then the post. Anthony Leonard finished to the net for Crossmolina before Colm Hegarty added another goal late on to leave the final score at Achill 1-05 Crossmolina 3-07. Crossmolina dominated the first quarter of this North Mayo U14 B Final at Kilfian. An opening point from Deelrovers full forward Conor Caden was equalled by a Mickie Conroy score. Edward Gough was on hand to boot a loose ball to the net for the Deel-Siders in the 11th minute. Mickey Conroy replied with a point from free. Conor Caden, Cian O’Boyle and Eoin McDonnell added points each in a spell Crossmolina should have had more scores on the board after a string of wide’s from play and frees. Mickie Conroy took over as play maker and scorer with a point from play. Kiltane were awarded a penalty in the 18th minute which Colm Hegarty saved from Mickey Lavelle. The Erris boys then had a number of bad wides before they were awarded a second penalty in the 25th minute, which Mickey Conroy drove powerfully past a helpless Colm Hegarty. James Mullarkey put his side in front with a point on the stroke of half time 1 – 5 to 1 – 4. If Crossmolina dominated the opening quarter when they had the assistance of a slight breeze Kiltane certainly did like wise in the opening ten minuets after the break with points from Oisin Lally, Mickie Conroy, Mickey Lavelle, Dylan Walker all from play and a Mickey Conroy one from a free. Conor Caden kept Crossmolina in the game with points from frees. Oisin Lally extended his lead with a goal in the 41st minute after taking a pass from Mickey Lavelle, as it transpired this was their last score. Keelan Hegarty got a grip at mid-field, he kicked over a point in 14th minute, Conor Caden pointed a free, and Keelan Hegarty pointed again from play after 52 minutes. The same player drove the ball to the Kiltane net three minutes later to leave just the minimum separating the sides with five minutes still on the clock to play. 2014 U15s.

Our U15 team competed in Division 3 of the county league. We won our first four games

before loosing out to the only other unbeaten team in our league Castlebar. We finished

second in our league and were paired away against Mayo Gaels in the county semi final.

This proved to be a cracker between two evenly matched teams. A last minute goal in our

favour was all that separated the sides. The final would see us renewing rivalries with

Castlebar in Ballina. A goal haul of 4 in the first half gave the young Deelrovers an

excellent start and we lead by 4 points at half time. Castlebar were strong favourites to

win this title and they lived up to that billing by storming back into the game at the start

of the second half, forging into the lead. This was a big test for the Deelrovers and they

all stepped up to the mark, two points followed by goal brought us three points to the

good. The effort to get us in front had to be doubled to keep us there. As Castlebar

attacked at every opportunity they could only come to within one point and the title was

Crossmolinas.

Crossmolina captured their third County U15 title at a wet and windy James Stephens

Park on Sunday2/11/14, the previous titles were won in 1994 and 2012. The latest title

did not look possible after two minutes of play when Castlebar playing against a strong

breeze grabbed the first score, a goal from their Captain Gavin Durcan. Crossmolina held

their composure and a few minutes later a shot from Darren Gill struck the crossbar and



the ball dropped into the gratefull hands of Colm Hegarty who drove it past a helpless

Miguel Martin in the Mitchells goal. Daragh Gill got on the score board again with a

point. Stephen Martin replied with three points for the Mitchalls, before Keelan Hegarty

grabbed his sides second goal after a great run in the 18th minute. With Shane Howley

and Niall Maughan driving forward at every opportunity, Ronan Lavelle struck a rich

vein of scoring with 2 – 2 in the space of nine minutes. Brian Walsh, Gavin Durcan and

Ruairi Nevin pulled back points each to leave the half time score 4 – 3 to 1 – 7.

Castlebar now favoured by the elements tacked on three points from Gavin Durcan,

Ruairi Nevin and Brian Walsh in the opening 12 minutes of the second half. Brian Walsh

gave his side the lead with a goal in the 46th minutes and Shane Hegarty added a point.

The Deel Siders had shown great fighting spirits throughout this league and this was

never more evident than in these last ten minuets when Keelan Hegarty pointed after a

great run, Ronan Lavelle pointed a free to tie the score and then Darren Gill for

Crossmolina and Gavin Durcan for the Mitchells exchanged points. With just a few

minutes on the clock Keelan Hegarty drove home his sides fifth goal and a three points

advantage. Castlebar threw everything at Deel siders defence. Durcan did score two

points but the all important goal chances were defended as if their lives depended on it.

Conor Caden and Daniel Howley made great interceptions to deny The Mitchels scores,

all the defenders were heroic throughout as were all the players who played a team effort.

2014 Crossmolina Deelrovers U16s Mayo B Championship Finalists & North Mayo

A Championship Winners.

2014 U16s Summary The U16 team competed in Division 1 of the county league. This proved to test our resources to the limit. We won one game in the league but as the year progressed the tough games early on stood to the players. We were seeded in the B County Championship and progressed through the group stages, with wins over Cill Chomain, Charlestown and Knockmore. We had a home

semi final against Louisburgh. This proved to be a great test of character for our squad. Trailing for most of the game we rallied to force extra time. The young Deelrovers progressed to their second County U16 B final in two years. The County final pitted us against Cill Chomain. Unfortunately we were not to win the title for a second year. Some early missed opportunities again proved costly as Cill Chomain made the most of their every chance and capitalized with some well taken goals. Our lads deserve great credit for continuing to play great football but this will be remembered as one that got away. The North Mayo U16A Championship was next up. We defeated Belmullet in the preliminary round. Then followed a draw and a replay of the highest standard with Ballina in the semi final. All present in Ballina for the drawn game will have witnessed an excellent exhibition of underage football. Crossmolina were more decisive in the second half of the replay and ran out worthy winners. Another final against Cill Chomain, this time played under lights in Moygownagh on a testing evening for football. The workrate and effort of the young Deelrovers was exemplary. Tactically astute and fearless in their commitment, they raced to a half time lead of 3-08 to 0-01. Facing the elements in the second half they again held true to the work that had put them in charge, and ran out worthy winners of the 2014 North Mayo U16 A title.

Kiltimagh got off to a good start and lead by 2 points before Niall Maughan opened the scoring for Crossmolina. Kiltimagh replied before Jordan Flynn and Gary Hopkins replied with 1 point each in the 12th minute to draw level. Shaun Cadden and Thomas scored points for the Deelrovers before a strong finish by Kiltimagh with a point and a goal on 29 minutes left the half time score Crossmolina 0-05 Kiltimagh 1-05.

Kiltimagh started the second half as they ended the first with a goal and a point had the score at 0-05 to 2-06. 2 points from Gary Hopkins one each side of a well taken goal by Sean Canavan reduced the deficit to 2 points. Crossmolina had a great chance of a goal denied and Kiltimagh broke downfield and won a penalty. The penalty was duely scored. Daragh Gill then scored a goal for the Deelrovers brining the difference back to 2 points. Then came a good save from the Kiltimagh goalkeeper as Crossmolina pushed hard to find a way ahead. Kiltimagh held out and finished the half as they started with another goal and a point to earn a well deserved victory.

Crossmolina played the first half facing a strong breeze. They had a good start and went into a 3 point lead half way through. Aghamore rallied and finished the half strongly to go n at the break leading by a point. Crossmolina started the second half brightly and aided by the breeze again opened the gap to 4 points. The home team battled well and managed to level the game at 3-09 apiece with only 5 minutes remaining. Crossmolina had a goal chance that rebounded out for a ’45, we missed the chance and Aghamore broke downfield and snatched a goal and a point from the resulting kickout. A very entertaining game with great effort from both sets of players.

Crossmolina prevailed in this second round of the Mayo U16B Championship after a very

entertaining and competitive game of football. This Charlestown team will have a big say in the

remainder of the championship. The half time score saw Crossmolina lead 3-05 to 1-

08. Charlestown drew level after 5 minutes of the second half and it was nip and tuck from there

to the end. A goal from Gary Hopkins and some fine defensive work proved to be the defining

moments of a good championship encounter.

Crossmolina and Louisburgh served up an exciting 80 minutes of football during this U16 Championship 2 Semi final fixture at St Tiernans Park on Tuesday of last week. Played in showers of rain for the most part Tommy Walsh and Ronan Lavelle gave the home side a two points advantage after six minutes. This was wiped out two minutes later when Edward Ball booted the ball to the net after a goal mouth scramble. Jordan Flynn pointed a fee in the 9th minute to leave the sides all square. Sean Keane pointed for the West Mayo side after 14 minutes as scores were hard to come by with both defences on top only two more points were scored in the remaining 16 minutes. A Ronan Lavelle free and Edward Ball point from play to leave the half time score 1 – 2 to 0 – 4 in favour of Louisburgh. If scores were hard earned in the opening half, Louisburgh started at lightning pace on the change of ends and had two goals scored before some of the Deel-Siders had taken up their positions, one by Edward Ball and one from Sean Keane. The visitors had an opportunity to go further ahead in the 10th minute when they were awarded a penalty. Fionn MacDonnacha drove the chance wide. Crossmolina replied through Darren Gill from play and Ronan Lavelle from a free. Edward Ball from a free replied with a point from a free and Dylan Pender rowed in the one from play for Louisburgh. With Jordan Flynn and Conor Rowland getting a firm grip at mid-field, Gary Hopkins scored from the penalty spot after he was up ended in the square in the 52nd minute, and two more points from Hopkins frees in the next four minutes left Crossmolina closer. Ronan Lavelle pointed from play after taking a pass from Jordan Flynn. Gary Hopkins sent the game to extra time when he pointed a free after Tommy Walsh was fouled. Indiscipline cost the Louisburg team this game, Edward Ball was black carded, Joseph Dawson saw red in normal time and it was at this stage Crossmolina came right back into game. In extra time there was only one team in it going two points up in the first period from Jordan Flynn and a Gary Lynn free without reply, after the break Jordan Flynn, Darren Gill and Niall Maughan increased the Crossmolina advantage to leave the final score 1 – 15 to 3 – 4. Crossmolina U16 team suffered a three points defeat in the county division 2 final at Elverys McHale Park on Tuesday last against Cill Chomain. After 9 minutes it was a point each Justin Healy and Jordan Flynn getting on the score sheet. Then Gary Hopkins scored a classic goal after great approach work from Sean Canavan, Jordan Flynn and Ronan McDermott. Two points in reply from Justin Healy left just one point separating the sides. Ronan Lavelle pointed a 13m free in the 14th minute. Cill Chomain ace marks man Justin Healy kicked a 38m free in the 16th minute, and minutes later Healy raced through the heart of the Crossmolina defence to drive a fierce shot past a helpless T.J.McFadden. The same player added a point from play before, Matthew Healy grabbed the ball and toe poked it to the net to give his side a six points advantage after 21minutes. With Sean Caden driving forward at every opportunity the Deel-Siders found their range after some wayward shooting, first Gary Hopkins pointed a free, quickly followed by another from Ronan Lavelle, Gary Hopkins blasted the ball past James O’Malley in the 24th minute. Hopkins pointed another free to tie the score and Ronan Lavelle gave his side the lead from a free on the stroke of half time. Joseph Mason pointed to leave the sides all square 2 – 6 each. Crossmolina had the better of the third quarter with points from Sean Caden and Tommy Walsh from play and a Jordan Flynn effort from a 45 gave their side a three points advantage after 12 minutes. Crossmolina Deelrovers 2-13 Belmullet 3-09 Belmullet got off to a lightning start with a goal in the second minute when a shot from Darragh Murray went into the net off a defender. Gary Lynn and Padraig Ruddy exchanged points. Then Marty Boylan pointed a 25m free in the 8th minute. In a great bout of team play Gary Lynn laid on the final pass to Tommy Walsh who drove to the net past Nathan Reilly in the fifteenth minute. A string of points followed form Gary Hopkins, Ronan Lavelle, with one from a free and one from play, Jordan Flynn, Darragh Gill and Gary Hopkins again. Crossmolina were camped in the Belmullet half and Gary Lynn took a pass from Jordan Flynn to give the Deel-Rovers boys a commanding 2 – 7 to 1 – 2 lead after 23 minutes. Two points in the remaining minutes from Marty Boylan and Padraig Ruddy narrowed the gap to six points at the break. Gary Lynn and Marty Boylan traded points minutes into the second half. Ronan Lavelle and Marty Boylan then raised white flags for their teams. Gary Hopkins and Gary Lynn extended the home sides lead with points each. Belmullet came more into game and kept picking off points from Padraig Ruddy and Michael Keane. Then sub Ryan McIntyre gave his a team lifeline when he rose above a couple of defenders to fist the ball to the net past a helpless T.J.McFadden. Marty Boylan reduced the lead to two points before Gary Hopkins grabbed a vital point in the 26th minute. Ethan Naylor then shot from the end line for what looked like a point but the ball struck the inside of the post and fell into the net. 2014 U18s Summary 2014 started in Division 2 of the County league. We had a mixed league campaign loosing more games than we won. Next up was the Summer league. Three wins in the group stages set us up for a semi final with our neighbours Knockmore. We survived a shaky start to win in good fashion and set up a Summer League County Final appearance against Burrishoole. The final was played in Pake GAA grounds in August. We started very well but a failure to capitalise on our early dominance and scoring opportunities came back to haunt us as Burrishoole took control in the second half to win the game. The sour taste of final defeat galvanised the squad for a tilt at the North Mayo Championship. The North Mayo Championship proved a thrilling competition. A preliminary round win over Ardnaree followed by a semi final victory over Belmullet secured our place in the final against Knockmore. The final was played in Ballina and ended in victory for the first time since 1994 that Crossmolina had secured the North Mayo Minor A Championship. While some ugly scenes near the end of the game will be highlighted the game was won through a stirring second half comeback. With Knockmore ahead and Crossmolina facing a fourth consecutive final defeat, our minors stood up to be counted. All round commitment and endeavour kept us in touch, six moments proved pivitol, three top class saves by our goalkeeper, and three goals of quality. The first goal from a team move that spanned the pitch, the second goal an individual finish of the highest order, the third a penalty converted deep into injury time to win the game. Well done to our minors of 2014. The county semi final proved a step to far and we were comprehensively beaten by a well drilled Claremorris outfit.

Crossmolina and Aghamore served up an entertaining hours football at St Tiernans Park on Monday of last week. The visitors lead at half time by five points 1 – 8 to 1 – 3, thanks to Liam Duffy, James Lyons, Kieran Harrisons work rate and scoring ability. Fionan Duffy and Keith Hopkins were scorers in chief for Crossmolina with Kieran Haran having to make three great saves which kept his side in the game. Crossmolina rallied and drew level by the 50th minute thanks to some great scores from Fionan Duffy and Keith Hopkins. In the end Aghamore stormed back and tacked on three points after the Deel-Siders wasted good possession close to goal to run out deserving winners 3 – 12 to 2 – 12.

2014 Ryan Lynch Cup

Belmullet retained the Ryan Lynch memorial Trophy after exciting game at St Tiernans Park on Friday 30/5/14. In a very well contested game there was very little in it at any time. Dean Loftus, Tommy Walsh and Gary Hopkins opened the scoring with points each for the home side. Cathal Barrett replyed with two points from frees and further points from Gary Hopkins and Nigel Caden. Belmullet’s Eoin Healy tied the score after 12 minuets with a goal after a great build up. Dean Loftus gave his side the lead again with a goal after taking a pass from Tommy Walsh. Eoin Healy and Niall Cawley pointed for Belmullet before Jordan Flynn gave his side the lead at the break with a point 1 – 6 to 1 – 5.

Richard Hanley tied the score in the 31st minute and Cathal Barrett kicked a couple of frees to push Belmullet ahead. Nigel Caden and Dean Loftus pointed for Crossmolina, before Niall Cawley and Jordan Flynn exchanged points. Jonathan Shevlin struck for a goal and Cathal Barrett extended Belmullets lead to five points. Niall Maughan scored a consolation goal to leave the final score 2 – 11 to 2 – 9 for a deserved win in the seventh playing of this tournament to honour a very promising player.

Crossmolina got off to a lightning start in this Mayo Summer League tie in St Josephs Park on Friday of last week with a goal straight from the throw in from Thomas Walsh who picked up the ball 60m out, darted through the defence to shoot past Connor Brogan in the Knockmore goal. A string of points from Nathan Hardy, Sean Brogan and two from Darragh Gibbons put





Knockmore into the lead after 25 minutes. Ronan Callaghan quickly tied the score with a point from play. The home side had missed a couple of goal chances and were denied on least three occasions by the vigilant goalkeeping of Kieran Haran, but there was nothing he could do to prevent Colm Reape’s pile driver of a shot in the 28th minute. Darragh Gibbons added a point to leave the half time score 1 – 5 to 1 – 1. Two minutes after the break Gary Hopkins grabbed a goal for Crossmolina and Nigel Caden pointed after 9 minutes to tie the score. Tommy Walsh and Cian Horgan exchanged points. Crossmolina minor footballers suffered a four points defeat in the County summer League at Parke on Thursday evening last. The Deel-siders had the better of the exchanges in the first half and lead at the break by 1 – 5 to 0 – 6. The goal coming from Dean Loftus after good approach work by Tommy Walsh in the 20th minute, Dean was out of luck minutes later when his goal bound shot came back off the angle of the crossbar. Burrishoole had much better of the exchanges after break and the sides were level in the 35th minute. The sides were level on two occasions in the third quarter with Nigel Caden and Niall Timoney getting on the score sheet. The crucial score came in the 23rd minute from Jack Hanley of Burrishoole, the goal gave winners a four points advantage. Wing back Colm Guilfoyle came up to point from play minutes later. North Mayo Minor A Championship, Prelim Rd; Crossmolina Deelrovers Vs Ardnaree, in St Tiernans Park @ 7pm Friday 29/8/14.

Crossmolina 1-14 Ardnaree 1-06 Ardnaree came to St Tiernans Park for this North Mayo Minor Championship game played in terrible conditions after a heavy shower of rain made under foot conditions very difficult. It was the visitors who adapted the better in the opening quarter with points from Captain John Eagan and Cathal Noone. Gary Hopkins opened Crossmolinas account in the 15th minute with a point which was quickly followed by another from Dean Loftus. Fionan Duffy rowed in with a point. John Timlin replied for Ardnaree with point in the 21st minute. Further points from Fionan Duffy two and one from Keith Hopkins left the half time score 0 – 6 to 0 – 3. Ardnaree stormed into to game after the break, first John Timlin pointed a free and in the 4th minute, Cathal Noone waltzed his way past a couple of would be defenders to drill the ball to the net and Ardnaree into a one point lead. The lead was cancelled out a minute later when Jordan Flynn pointed a 45. John Timlin and Fionan Duffy traded points, Duffy added two more points from frees. Crossmolina were getting well on top and this reflected on the score board in the last ten minutes. Crossmolina Deelrovers 3-17 Belmullet 2-08 Crossmolina raced in to a three points lead in the opening six minutes with points from Fionan Duffy two from play and one free, before Belmullets Niall Cawley opened his sides account in the 15th minute. From the kick out the Bellmullet went straight down the field and Michael Dempsey planted the ball in the net to put side into a two points lead. Fionan Duffy and Gary Hopkins tacked on points to level the score, then Dean Loftus added a point before Fionan Duffy grabbed a vital goal in the 17th minute. Crossmolina spurned some chances for goals before a string of points from Tommy Walsh, Fionan Duffy and Ronan Callaghan. Belmullets Niall Cawley pointed from a free and from play. Knockmore 1-13 Crossmolina Deelrovers 3-06 Minors win North Title Crossmolina captured the North Mayo Minor title in dramatic finish with a goal from a penalty in

injury time from Fionan Duffy after Tommy Walsh was upended by the Knockmore goalkeeper to give the Deel-Siders their first North A title since 1994. A win which was marred by a flare up which involved mentors and players from both sides. Knockmore got off to the perfect start with points from Joe O’Neill and Ciaran O’Connell inside eight minutes. Fionan Duffy tied the score with points in 9th and 14th minutes. Darragh Gibbons added a point and Peter Naughton tacked on two within a minute, in 20th minute. Tommy Walsh and Fionan Duffy reduced the lead to the minimum by 26th minute but is was Knockmore who finished the half as they started with two points from Peter Naughton to leave score at the break 0 – 7 to 0 – 4. Three points from Darragh Gibbons, Peter Naughton and Aaron Dempsey in opening ten minutes pushed Knockmore further clear. Gary Hopkins gave Crossmolina a life line when he scored a cracking goal after good approach work from Nigel Caden and Ronan Callaghan in the 46th minute. Back came Knockmore with a goal from a penalty by Peter Naughton to restore his sides six points advantage. With the game slipping away from Crossmolina they suddenly found their shooting boots after missing some gilt edge chances in the opening half first Captain Ronan Callaghan fired over a point, Keith Hopkins then went on a surging run from midfield before unleashing a rocket of a shot past Conor Brogan in the 25th minute. The same player pointed minutes later to leave just a point separating the sides. Crossmolina needed a score to stay in the title race and no better man than Tommy Walsh to get on the end of attack and the rest is history. Some of these Deelrovers players were on the teams who had lost the three previous finals and this made this victory all the more sweeter. I would like to thank each coach for all the effort and commitment they have given to their respective teams throughout 2014.

Well done; Six new coaches completed their basic course in Gaelic Games Coaching with the Mayo GAA Coaches in February. 14 coaches took part in the FUNdamentals gaelic games coaching coures. The course was run by Crossmolina Deelrovers Bord na nÓg and MacHale Rovers Clubs. Pat O'Shea, Kerry and Mary Colly, Clare were the two instructors presenting the course on behalf of the Ladies Gaelic Athletic Association. Well done to Caoimhe Walsh, Nettley who represented Crossmolina National School and Mayo in the half time exhibition game by Cumann na mBunscoil at the Connacht Senior Football Championship Semi Final between Roscommon and Mayo at Dr Hyde Park, Roscommon on Sunday 8/6/2014. Congratulations to Samantha McDonnell, Ballyvicmaha and Stacy Mangan, Cabra, Castlehill who were members of Mayo U16 B team that won a Connacht title with a 5 – 18 to 1 – 15 victory over Leitrim. Congratulations to Ladies Minor Team on winning Mayo Championship, they are now through to represent Mayo in the Connaught Minor championship, playing Mohill in Tubbercurry on Saturday 4th October. Congratulations to Rachel Kearns Carrowkeel Crossmolina who was on the Connacht U16 Ladies Football team who won the Inter-Provincial title in Mullingar recently

Fionan Duffy and Keith Hopkins represented Mayo Minors in Connacht League and Connacht and All Ireland Championship games, reaching the All Ireland Semi Final.

Nigel Caden, Jordan Flynn, Tommy Walsh, Kieran Haran and who are representing the club on the 2014 North Mayo U17 squad in the County Cup.

Thomas Walsh and Jason Lynn who represented Crossmolina on North Mayo U16 Development squad. Thomas Walsh who represented Crossmolina on North/South Mayo U16 Ted Webb Cup squad. Colm Hegarty and Keelan Hegarty who represented Crossmolina on North Mayo U14 Development squad Barry Heffernan coaching with Mayo Minors Niall Maughan on winning the Dr Loftus Medal for the most promising player.

National Schools Boys and Girls teams who reached the divisional finals in the Cumann na mBunscoil competition. The National Schools Girls team who lost out after a second period of extra time in the county semi final to the eventual winners of the Mayo Mini 7s competition. U10 squad and coaches on winning the Jackie McLoughlin Cup at the annual Knockmore tournament.
