Traditional medicine is the crystallization of human civilization wisdom, which has made an indelible contribution to human surviving and multiplying. Even today, with highly developed modern science and technology, we still need to face the complexity of life and disease. Countries around the world are re-examining the status and the role of traditional medicine to raise the level and reduce the costs of health care. In order to achieve the goal of “Everybody has access to primary health care service”, WHO has clearly advocated to vigorously promote the use of traditional medicine, and adopted the “Traditional medicine Resolution” at the 62nd World Health Assembly.
The Chinese government has always insisted on developing traditional medicine for a long time. In order to meet the continuously increasing demand of contemporary society for health care, the government proposed the task that promoting modernization and internationalization development of Traditional Chinese Medicine (including the national medicine) a decade ago, and made a series of principles and policies, which allow the people at home and abroad to have a better understanding, acceptance and use of Traditional Chinese Medicine. For last decade, supported by the state,industry-education-academic research units have carried out scientific research and practical activities that
gained quite remarkable achievements. The State Council of P.R.China has issued the “Suggestions on supporting and promoting the development of Traditional Chinese Medicine” in May this year.
In order to exchange the experience on promoting the development of traditional medicine among different countries, and to discuss the current bewilderments and problems, the relevant Chinese departments are going to hold the International Conference of the Traditional Medicine 2009 together with the People's Government of Guangdong Province in Guangzhou in November, 2009, aiming at inheriting and expanding the traditional medicine by extensive cooperation.
