2. INTRODUCCIÓN

The human race is characterized by intercultural communication, and it moves in a rapidly changing scientific and

technological environment. These conditions demand a common language that will allow the society access to the new

globalized world.

Nowadays, it is known that speaking a language is not enough. The need of being a bilingual person is required for getting

better levels of life, school and employment. Learning another language develops tolerance towards new societies and

establishes relationships the world over. English as one of the most spoken languages lets people to communicate in

different human fields and contexts by accepting and understanding several new cultures.

Thus, the Ministry of Education Board has chosen this language to adjust the Bilingual National Program Project and to

enable citizens to express themselves in different contexts. It will bring to our country universal processes of communication

for a global economy and cultural aperture using comparable international standards.

Therefore, the Anglo American School through the English Department, has designed a language program that lets our

students be part of this project. The achievements focus on enhancing the students´ language skills in order to become

competent language users in real situations.

3. JUSTIFICACIÓN

The Anglo American School wants to contribute in accordance with the Institutional Educational Project (P.E.I) to the growth

of our students as human beings increasing their linguistic competence and improving the knowledge they have of the world

through an intensive program from Pre-school to High school. It will reach the goals and policies of the Ministry of Education

giving our students an English learning experience as a foreign language based on the standards established in the

Common European Framework of Languages that provides a reference for language learning, teaching and assessment.

Our students will acquire linguistic, pragmatic and sociolinguistic competences to achieve higher language proficiency levels

from those stated in “ Estándares Básicos de Competencias en Lenguas Extranjeras ” of the M.E.N (Guía No 22 ).

The English level will be evaluated and recognized for an international institution through the exams presented in different

divisions (Cambridge YLE and ESOL Examinations).

Once students finish their school in our institution, they will have the opportunity to study in the best Universities and apply

for scholarships in our country or abroad.

Therefore, acquiring an excellent English level will let our seniors accede to better educational and job opportunities in

Colombia and all over the world that will improve their quality life style.
