When the following types of electrical loads indicated below are applied to Aluminum Electrolytic
Capacitors, rapid deterioration of electrical property occurs:
Rated ripple current is exceeded
Reverse voltage, over-voltage and AC voltage exceeding the rated limits
The leakage current of the capacitor is so high to produce heat
Sever charge and discharge cycles
Poor connected to device circuits
At such time,sever heat is generated, gas is emitted, then electrolyte leaks from the sealing area, and
pressure relief vent operated due to internal pressure.
In the worst case, explosion or ignition may occur, and along with destruction of the capacitor combustibles
may burst out.

The fundamental formula applies only to the range of an ambient temperature from +40 to the
maximum rated operating temperature of capacitors, and means that every 10 rise in the ambient
temperature halves the lifetime of the capacitors.
If ripple current multipliers due to temperature or frequency are described in the catalogs and product
specifications, note the following before using them.

Even if the capacitors are used at lower ambient temperature than the maximum rated operating
temperature, the temperature multipliers should not be used to obtain permissible ripple currents
exceeding the rated permissible ripple current prescribed in the catalogs or products specifications.
Applying a ripple current higher than the rated limit to the capacitors comes to cancel out the
extension of lifetime which ought to be obtained by using the capacitors at the low ambient
temperature, and also the lifetime of the capacitors cannot be estimated using the formula given herein.
Select the capacitors to suit installation and operating conditions, and use the capacitors to meet the
performance limits prescribed in this catalog or the product specification.
Regular electrolytic capacitor has polarity. Reverse voltage causes short-circuit breakage of the
capacitor or leakage of electrolyte. When the polarity in a circuit sometimes reversed or unknown, a bi-
polar capacitor should be used.
Do not apply surge-voltage continuously. When surge-voltage is applied to the capacitor, leakage current
increases drastically. Applied working voltage to capacitors should not exceed the rated working ovltage
of capacitor.
Do not use capacitor over the max operating temperature. Lifetime of the capacitor depend on the
temperature. Generally, lifetimes is double by decreasing temperature 10 . Use the temperature as low as
possible.
It is recommended at least 3mm of space around the vent. If such space is not provided, the vent will not
operate completely.

If the capacitor is cleaned in halogenated solvent for organic removing solder flux solvent, the
solvent may penetrate into the inside of capacitor, and may generate corrosion.
12. Sleeve material
The standard sleeve material is polyvinyl chloride. If exposed to xylene, toluene,etc,and then
subjected to high heat, the sleeve may crack. This sleeve is not insulating material.

Do not apply a ripple current exceeding the rate maximum ripple current. Applying too much ripple
current to the capacitor causes great heat generation invites deterioration of properties of causes
breakage. Please consult factory if ripple current exceeds the specified limit.
Frequent and quick charge/discharging generates heat inside the capacitor, causing increase of leakage
current, decrease of capacitance, or breakage occasionally. Consult us for assistance in this application.
When the capacitor is stored for a long time without applying voltage, leakage current tends to increase.
This returns to normal by applying the rated voltage to the capacitor before use. It is recommended to
apply D.C. Working voltage to the cpapcitor for 30minutes through 1k of protective series resistor , if
it is stored for more than 6 months. The capacitor should be stored at a normal temperature of 15 to 35
and humidity of less than 70% RH.
Improper soldering may shrink or break the insulating sleeve and / or damage the internal element as
terminals and lead wires conduct heat into the capacitor. Avoid too high a soldering temperature and/ or
too long a soldering time.
Do not apply excessive force to the lead wire and the terminal. Do not move the capacitor after soldering
to the PC board, not carry the PC board by picking up the capacitor.
