Main Products

These are polishing liquids to make coarse surfaces smooth when semiconductor circuits are formed. Utilizing both inorganic and organic material technologies, the mechanical action of polishing grains and the chemical action of liquid components are optimized. High-speed polishing is attained, minimizing wafer flaws.

Graphite materials are the keys to larger capacity and longer l i fe of l i thium ion batteries. Our carbon synthesis technology and particle design technology gained in the development process of carbon brushes are used in the design of internal structures for efficient inward and outward movement of lithium ions

These power storage systems combine a bidirectional converter and lead acid batteries or lithium ion batteries. These systems are used as a power peak cut t ing system to contro l maximum power consumption during daytime by effectively using electricity during nighttime and in mitigating output fluctuations of renewable energy such as wind power generation.

CMP Slurries Circuit Connecting Films for DisplaysThese are circuit connecting materials for displays. Both electrical conductivity and insulation property are achieved while these films connect batches of very small electrodes in micrometer order. Widely used in smart phones, liquid-crystal displays and other devices, these films make higher definition images and smaller, thinner devices.

Taking fully advantage of our expertise in the development technologies ofnot only test reagents but also reaction containers and test systems,Hitachi Chemical group is supplying diagnostic systems and medicines for allergiesand infectious diseases, as well as gene analysis kits for research purposes.We are also developing products that enable prior forecasting of drug efficaciesand monitoring of the effects of medical therapies by capturing cancer cells inblood and by analyzing the genes of such cells. From 2017, we started contract development and manufacturing business for regenerative medicine cells. We are expanding this business sphere, fully utilizing our expertise in advanced manufacturing technologies in a cleanroom environment through the semiconductor material business, as well as the cell manufacturing equipment, production facilities, and IT proficiency of Hitachi group.

These diagnostic systems examine substancesthat cause allergies such as pollen, foodstuff and house dust by measuring the amount of antibodies in blood. In addition to these unique allergen refining method and fixation method, a special reaction container has been designed to simultaneously examine 36 different substances that cause allergies.

Regenerative Medicine: A treatment method for transplanting cells derived from in-vitro cultures into the body in order to restore organs or immune functions damaged by injury or disease.

We are developing our products for realizing ideal brakes that reduce braking noise while maintaining high braking performance, by optimizing material blending of metals and resins and through simulation analysis of friction phenomenon. Pads that do not contain copper are also supplied to reduce more environmental load.

Powder metal products are produced by compression molding of metal powders such as iron and copper by a press and are sintered at temperature below the melting point of the metal. Featuring high precision, high resistance to wear, resistance to high temperature and other characteristics, they are widely used in engines, industrial equipment and other applications.

   Age of Mass Production of Electronic Circuits Begins

These products were developed for the “printed wiring method,” replacing manual wiring of copper wires by hand soldering. Using the same principle for printing, electronic circuits of the same patterns were produced in high volumes, greatly contributing to the spread of TV sets and other electric and electronic appliances to homes.

1962 The chemical division of Hitachi, Ltd. became     an independent entity as     Hitachi Chemical Co., Ltd.

1963 Started selling     polypropylene bathtubs.

   Dream Bathtubs -    Light in Weight and Semi-   permanent in Durability

Wooden bathtubs were mainly used in Japanese homes at that time. We installed a 2,200-ton injection-molding machine, then the largest class in Japan, and succeeded in high-volume production of plastic bathtubs for the first time in Japan. These were the pioneer in spreading plastic bathtubs thereafter.

1978 Started selling photosensitive film     of alkali-based solvents.

   Pioneer in Eco-friendly    Manufacture of    Electronic Circuits

Solvents were mainly used at that time to develop resists on circuit patterns. Anticipating the growth in demand for environmentally friendly products, we developed and produced products that did not use a solvent ahead of other manufacturers. This led to the evolution of products that can now be called global standard products.

  Aspiration for    Domestic Production

In Japan, insulating varnishes for motors at that time depended entirely on imported varnishes. Namihei Odaira, the founder of Hitachi, Ltd., started research to domestically produce them. In 1914 , Oda i ra succeeded in developing a varnish containing a na tu ra l r e s i n . Th i s was the beg inn ing o f t he h i s to r y o f innovation of our group.

1992 Started selling reflow-resistance     epoxy molding compounds.

   Solution to Heat Problem    Created by Saving of    Space

I n r e fl ow s o l d e r i n g p r o c e s s , semiconductors are placed on solder that is printed on surfaces of substrates and are mounted by melting the solder in an oven at 200°C or higher. Even t h o u g h s e m i c o n d u c t o r s a n d components are mounted on substrates in high density, cracking of the sealing material by heat became a problem. We solved this problem by reexamining the composition of the sealing material and by fill ing filler to a high level, thereby enhancing the reliability of electronic equipment.

1998 Started high-volume production     of carbon anode materials     for lithium ion batteries.

   Black Powder Reduced    the Charging Frequency

Lithium ion batteries are high capacity, compact and light weight compared with conventional re-charging batteries. Graphite materials used in anodes of l i t h i u m i o n b a t t e r i e s a ff e c t s performance of batteries. Using the carbon technology it nurtured over many years, we developed artificial, high-capacity graphite. The change from using natural graphite to artificial graphite took place rapidly, boosting the convenience of mobile terminals.

1998 Started manufacturing     CMP slurries for STI     (shallow trench isolation).

   Key to High-density    Semiconductors is Fast,    Flat Polishing

These are polishing liquid to make surfaces of semiconductor wafers flat when circuits are formed on wafers. We deve loped un ique cer ium ox ide part ic les that sel f -col lapse whi le polishing wafer surfaces. These enabled high-speed polishing while minimizing polishing flaws, thereby contributing to increased productivity. Additionally, the waste produced during polishing is greatly reduced. The products are highly evaluated from environmental aspects also.

2010 Started operating lead acid     batteries for wind power generation     with mitigation system of     output fluctuations.

    Power Generation not    Swayed by Changeable Wind

Radical output fluctuations caused by high and low wind velocity makes the power grid unstable and have been a challenge for wind power generation. To deal with this situation, we developed a lead acid battery featuring a long life, enduring irregular and frequent charging and discharge cycles. By leveling the output using these batteries, we contributed to the successful operation of a wind power plant of an output fluctuation mitigation type for the first time in Japan.

2001 Started manufacturing molded     plastic rear door modules.

   Resins Changed Forms of    Automobiles

Automobile bodies were invariably made of metal. Through the resin molding technology nurtured over many years, we succeeded in manufacturing molded plastic rear door modules for the first time in Japan. Aside from reducing the weight of the body, molded plastic rear door modules made possible complex rear door forms that could not be achieved by metal rear doors, dramatically enhancing design freedom.

2008 Started manufacturing allergy     diagnostic reagents for     simultaneous measurement of     33 items.

   Great News for People    Who Previously Needed to    Undergo Tests Many Times

Our diagnostic system can test as many as 33 different types of causative agents of allergy by taking only one blood sample. Our system mitigates the burden to patients of going to clinics or hospitals many times for taking blood samples and reduces the time taken to determine the cause of the allergy.

In that timeframe, the quest for fine wiring connection of liquid-crystal screens by soldering was reaching a limit. High-definition and color s c r e e n s w e r e d i ffi c u l t t o accomplish. The debut of these fi lms however enabled batch connection of wires in micrometer order . Paving the way for the h i g h - v o l ume p r odu c t i o n o f liquid-crystal screens with high picture quality, this triggered the application of liquid-crystal screens to s i gn ificant l y expand f rom ca l cu l a to r s and wa t ches t o personal computers and TV sets.

Hitachi Chemical group supplies a wide range of semiconductor materials from wafer process related materials such as photosensitive coating materials and CMP slurries to packaging process related materials such as die-bonding films and pastes and epoxy molding compounds. Beginning 2014, we have inaugurated an open laboratory inside our Packaging Solution Center, a development center of semiconductor packaging. By bringing our materials and parts supplied by customers to the lab, and by packaging and evaluating them together with our customers and equipment and other material manufacturers, it enables us to shorten the development period and to propose new assembly processes.

Case of Activity in Semiconductor Materials We are opening sites which operate product development, provide technical support, and design outside of Japan to quickly provide solutions to our overseas customers.

These are photosensitive material of a coating t ype f o r f o rm ing i n su l a t i n g l a ye r s i n s em i c o n d u c t o r p a c k a g e s , a n d a r e positive-type films that can be developed using an alkali aqueous solution. These can be cured at temperatures as low as 200°C or even lower and fea tu res good cu r ing characteristics.

Chemical Mechanical Polishing (CMP) Slurries are polishing materials used to polish and smooth out the unevenness of the interlayer dielectric and in metal lines formed in the process of characterization. In addition to ceria-type slurry that minimizes polishing damage for STI, we also offer a lineup of slurry for copper wiring formation.

These are graphite materials used in anodes of batteries. The product lineup includes artificial graphite featuring high capacity and excellent charging and discharge characteristics with many internal pores and natural graphite featuring a long l i fe through our unique technology to reform grain surfaces.

In motors and generators, these brushes conduct electricity by sliding. We supply a wide variety of carbon brushes from large brushes for electrical generators and railroad cars to small brushes for automobile electrical equipment and micromotors.

Our heat- and chemical-resistant carbon sliding parts are self-lubricating, and therefore no lubrication is required. They can be cut or ground as easily as metal and can be used in variety of industr ial machinery, such as chemical pumps.

These highly dense materials with their smooth, glass-like surface are substantially corrosion resistant. The extremely low rate of missing particles and high solidity give these materials are a broad range of applications, including parts used during semiconductor manufacturing processes, various materials for high-temperature furnaces, crystal breeding crucibles and electrochemical equipment parts.

These are fine ceramics of pressureless sintered alpha carbide materials that are extremely hard and highly resistant to high temperature and sliding wear. They are used mainly in mechanical seals for automobiles and semiconductor manufacturing equipment components.

These ceramics are made by uniformly and precisely binding very pure, minute crystals, and are used in parts for semiconductor manufacturing equipment and liquid crystal display manufacturing equipment.

These materials are mainly used in rubber products , t i res and pa int and come in thermally reactive and non-thermally reactive types. These resins are highly regarded for their superior chemical resistance and thermal stability and are employed in a diverse range o f app l icat ions in both consumer and industrial markets.

By combining it with various types of isocyanate, polyurethane resins featuring various characteristics such as toughness, water resistance, can be obtained. They are used in synthetic leather, paints, adhesives and building materials.

These materials are used to bond IC chips to lead-frames or package substrates. In addition to having strong adhesion, they help to mitigate the distortions that occur due to differences in the coefficient of thermal expansion of each part. These are composite electrical insulating materials used for such purpose as electric power transmission. Owing to a combined fab r i ca t ion method invo l v i ng vacuum impregnation and the pressure curing of epoxy resin, these materials do not contain pores(voids). They have excellent electrical and mechanical characteristics and also enable the manufacture of large-scale products made by autoclave molding.

These films protect the sensitive surface of various optical sheets for displays when they are processed and transported. These films can be pasted on various materials and surface profiles of sheets, and also do not damage them because of leaving only a very small amount of adhesive deposit.

These foamed products , made by h igh foaming of polyethylene, are used in a wide range of fields, as packing materials and heat resistant materials for industry, architecture and vehicles. They have excellent insulating and shock-absorbent properties, and absorb l i t t l e wa te r and mo i s tu re . Secondary fabrication is also easy.

These products, composed of IC chip and antenna, are devices that transmit and receive digital data using radio wave. We supply various tags and cards such as ultra-small tags and metal tags that can be welded. They are used in management of food freshness and important documents, as well as maintenance management of infrastructure.

These films are mainly used in professional settings such as restaurants and hotels. Photosensitive Liquid Solder ResistsThese are liquid moisture resistant insulating mater ia l s fo r semiconductor package substrates . They are ha logen- f ree and contr ibute to high packaging rel iabi l i ty because of their high endurance to a heat cycle and reflow processing. The low levels of warpage achieve thinner substrates for package.

These products form resist layers over the flexible circuits and contribute to improve electrical insulation and mechanical durability. They cure at low temperatures and those cured coatings have high elongation, therefore they demonstrate excellent adhesion to the sealants and have bending resistance.

Excellent moisture-resistance enables these products to protect electrodes in such devices as LCDs from moisture. Since the coating has low moisture-permeability and few ionic impurities, it demonstrates excellent migration resistance and contributes to the reliability of the applications.

These are acrylic resin particles that contain phosphors and are capable of converting short-wavelength light (ultraviolet light) into long-wavelength light (visible light). By using them in the encapsulation sheets of solar panels, ultraviolet light that could not be used in photovoltaic power generation can now be converted into visible light, contributing to increased power generation efficiency.

In this system, strawberry seedlings before planting are sealed using an evaporated film deposited with aluminum and carbonic acid gas is filled in sealed bags to eradicate noxious insects such as spider mites. An agricultural chemical is not used and spider mites including eggs on the backsides of the leaves can be exterminated thoroughly without providing a drug tolerance to mites.

Powder metal products are produced by compression molding of metal powders such as iron and copper by a press and are sintered at temperature below the melting point of the metal. Featuring high precision, high resistance to wear, resistance to high temperature and other characteristics, they are widely used in engines, industr ia l equipment and other applications.

BearingsThese bearings are self-lubricating bearings produced by impregnating a lubricant such as oil in tiny open spaces between sintered metal powders. You will find our bearings in motor parts of automotive electric and electronic equipment and in rotating parts of various products including PCs and electric home appliances.

These are molded e lect r ic components produced through integrated molding of a high-durability resin and parts that contain metals. Aluminum parts are now used to reduce the weight of these components and they are used in IPM* housings of electric vehicles, hybrid vehicles and in other applications.

These gears use reinforced fiber as a base material and are made by molding a resin that excels in strength and heat resistance. Used in secondary balancing shaft gears of automobile and ship engines that require extremely high durability and reliability, these gears reduce the overall engine weight and keep noise and vibration to a minimum while automobiles and ships are in cruise mode.
