Hammer

Jeremy BlockProject 1 Analysis

This icon is the recreation of Thor’s hammer Mjolnir. I decided to go with this icon because of its simplistic shape. The hammer represents the strength and nature of the Norse God Thor. The form of a square head shows the sturdiness and power. A hammer is used to build things up, but it is also use to knock things down. The difference between the two is the bigger the hammer the bigger the area for the hammer to make contact. In Norse mythology the hammer was created because of Thor’s brother Loki. Loki, the Trickster God, decided to cut The Lady Sif’s golden hair. In despite of this prank, Loki was told to leave and return with treasures for the kingdom of Asgard. While Loki went to get these treasures he decided to make it a contest and had multiple smiths create the treasures. The dwarf that was creating the hammer turned out to be winning this contest so Loki turned into a fly and bit the dwarves eyebrow and it caused him to make the handle shorter than it was suppose to be.
