3-Way Thermic Valve
1
The ESBE VTC thermic valve is a thermostaticby-pass valve which regulates the temperature
o either the supply out or the return o waterin a hydronic heating system. In a conventionalapplication, the VTC valve saeguards non-condensing boilers against corrosion romcondensation that would result i a minimumfue gas temperature is not maintained. Withthe VTC the boiler is able to recover and keepup with the drop in water temperature. TheVTC valve can also be used on a solid uelboiler or a solar application where a minimumor maximum water temperature is trying tobe maintained.

Piping Orientation:
When the VTC is piped on the supply side
out rom the heat source, the valve willbegin to allow water out to the system
when the temperature o the uid meets
the temperature o the inserted thermostat
element.
The VTC valve, when placed on the return
side will open when the minimum return
temperature o the element is reached.
When the uid temperature reaches
18F (10C) higher than the elements
temperature, the return port rom the
system will be ully open.

Systems Applications: VTC Thermic Valve on Gravity Conversion System
VTC Valve on Multi-zone Systems with Circulators
VTC Valve
Because gravity conversion systems contain
an enormous volume o water, the water
returning to the heat source could be
signicantly cooler, leading to condensation
and a shorter lie or the heat source. Adding
a thermic valve to the system will prevent
the boiler rom sustained operation at
temperatures below the dew point o their
ue gases.
Where a high mass non condensing
heat source is matched with a large low
temperature system, a situation could occur
where the heat source is unable to keep up
with the rate o demand rom the system.
The use o the thermic valve provides the
opportunity or the heat source to catch-up.
VTC Valve
Charging o Storage Tank through Solar Heating
With the thermic VTC valve, an ecient
method o charging a tank can be done.
To achieve eciency through the solar
panel, cool water should enter allowing or
a higher diferential temperature across the
panel. Additionally heated uid rom the
panel should be properly distributed within
the tank to reduce stratication i.e. even
temperature distribution, within the tank.
