From the Principal

Welcome back to Term 3!! We are off with a bang with the Year 5/6 students going on camp this week. They were all very excited to be going off yesterday morning and we are hoping the weather clears and stays fine for them. It will be cold however…. after all they are going to Ballarat! Nonetheless, that should not stop them from doing everything and I am sure a fun time will be had by all. Just a suggestion and probably a no brainer but it might be a good idea for parents of the campers to plan for an early night on Friday. The children (and teachers) always come back absolutely exhausted after what is an action packed camp. As you know, we are always keen to update our knowledge and enhance our teaching practice. To that end several teachers and support staff went to a very interesting professional learning session in the last week of last term. The topic was ‘Creating a Dyslexic Friendly School’. The staff who attended were very impressed by the content and found it extremely valuable. We will be discussing how to implement these strategies across the school. Facilities You may have noticed that our new project has commenced and the initial works for resurfacing the basketball and netball courts has been completed. The plan is to install the Tiger Turf next Monday (weather permitting). Information sessions for parents. Attached you will find invitations to some information sessions run by Anglicare. I encourage you to attend if you are at all interested in the topics. They are free. You will also have received a flyer regarding a conference called Resilient Kids. There is a cost of $69 for that one though. The speakers have excellent reputations and the topics covered are very current. It is for parents and educators and several of our staff are attending.

Swimming Swimming is coming up soon for the Year 3-6 students. A notice has already gone out and money and permission slips are due back by 28th July. You may remember that last year new guidelines came in from the Department regarding new child safety regulations. These were in relation to parents being able to go in to the change rooms to assist with children’s dressing. The new regulations state that only adults who have had ‘Working with Children’ checks are allowed in to the children’s change rooms. This means that you will need to obtain a Working with Children Card if this is something you wish to do. These are readily available and there is no cost. Please contact the office if you require further information. Of course you are able to go to observe your children swimming at any time. This does not require a working with children check. The swimming pool has provided a separate area for the students to change and the general public will not be allowed in. Transition for New Preps 2018 Our first Transition Day is next Wednesday 26th July at 9:30am in the prep rooms. It will go for an hour and parents or carers are welcome to come to the staff room to wait while their children attend the session which goes for an hour. It is a good opportunity to meet and network with other parents and I will be there to answer any questions. Earn and Learn From 26th July until 19th September the school will again be participating in Woolworth’s Earn and Learn Program. For every $10 spent you will receive a sticker which will need to be attached to the official Woolworth’s sticker sheet. You will then need to drop the sticker sheet into school. After the closing date we will send all the sticker sheets in to Woolworth’s and be allotted a number of points which we will be able to spend on equipment and resources for the school. It is a terrific way for us to build up our resources and an easy way for you to support us. I encourage you all to help us by getting into ‘sticking’

Physical Education

Grade 3/4 Hooptime Grade 3/4 Hooptime will be held next Friday 28th July at Kilsyth stadium. Payments and permission slips were due back today, Thursday 20th July. I will be in touch with any parents who stated that they are able to assist. Thank-you to those who have!

Grade 5/6 Sport – Open Netball Division Semi-Final The Open Netball team will be playing against Mooroolbark East Primary School this coming Monday 24th June at CPPS (home game). Due to the works on our school courts, the match will be played across the road at Kimberley Reserve. The match will

commence at 9:30am. Parents are welcome to come along and cheer on the team. There is no additional charge for this event. We are given a very short timeline to organise Division Finals and due to the short notice no information notice will be sent home, as the 5/6 students are away on camp this camp. Participating students come to school like a regular day, however they are to wear their CPPS school sports uniform and a netball skirt or black shorts, along with their normal sport shoes. Mouth-guards are recommended. If we win the match, another match (Division Final) against another school will be organised again at very short notice within the following week or two.

Grade 3-6 Swimming Please see the notice Mrs Marinakos wrote in this newsletter regarding parental assistance at the pool.

Permission notices with payment are due at the office next week, Friday 28th July.

WE WANT OUR PARENTS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents think of our school. The Parent Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education and Training that is conducted amongst a sample of randomly selected parents at each school. It is designed to assist our school in gaining an understanding of parents’ perception of school climate, student engagement and relationships with our parent community. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies. The survey will be conducted online by ORIMA Research Pty Ltd and only takes 15 minutes to complete. The survey can be accessed via desktop computer, laptop, tablet or mobile at any convenient time within the fieldwork period from Monday 7th August to Sunday 27th August. Approximately 40 per cent of parents will be invited to participate in this year’s survey. All responses to the survey are anonymous. The survey results will be reported back to our school at the end of September. For further information, please speak to you child’s teacher or visit: http://www.education.vic.gov.au/school/teachers/management/improvement/Pages performsurveyparent.aspx
