This major aims to provide students with a firm
foundation in chemical sciences with a focus on
analytical chemistry, environmental chemistry,
inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, and
physical chemistry. It puts strong emphasis on
discovery-enriched curriculum, out-of-classroom
activities, and independent learning. It is
designed to train and produce graduates who are
able to pursue a developing career in local and
regional industrial, commercial, government, education, and research sectors.

Most school-leaving qualifications acceptable for university entry are recognized. Applicants whose entrance qualification is obtained in a language other than English will need a satisfactory score in TOEFL [550 (paper-based test) or 79 (Internet-based test)], an IELTS (overall band score of 6.5), or other acceptable English qualifications.
Mature local applicants are eligible to apply for admission to first-year studies even if they do not satisfy any of the above requirements. Mature applicants must be over the age of 25 by 1 September of the year of admission and be able to demonstrate their aptitude and suitability for study.
