Depaul USATRANSCRIPT
SHARING HOPE Annual Report 2013
Depaul USA is subsidiary of the international homelessness
services organization Depaul International. Our vision is a
world in which everyone has a place to call home and a stake
in his or her community. With a combination of homelessness
services and a growing social enterprise portfolio, Depaul USA
innovates and brings real solutions to those facing
homelessness. Depaul USA’s staff, clients, volunteers, and
supporters all share one hope for improving the communities
we serve.
1
SHARING HOPE
Dear Friends,
While 2013 has passed, its effects are ever‐present. We build on
them daily. We hear the clients’ stories and watch life’s struggles,
which sometimes seem insurmountable. With awe and curiosity,
we uncover the potential of our clients. A Philadelphia resident
shares wisdom of St. Vincent de Paul with newer housemates. A
man, who has struggled his whole life with mental illness and
substance abuse, takes steps toward stability, offering a kind and
peaceful presence as he makes art in New Orleans. A St. Louis man amazes us with his physical
transformation, dropping 120 pounds and eliminating his need for high blood‐pressure and
diabetes medications. Volunteers—hundreds in Macon alone—come to welcome, support, and
witness the gifts unfolding from each person who walks through our doors across our nation.
We watch people change before our eyes and are inspired to innovate and do more.
Our colleagues at Depaul Ukraine reflect on this icon of Vincent de Paul, where it is unclear who
gives and who receives. This is why we use the phrase “share hope,” as the giving among the
clients, volunteers, supporters, and staff is ever flowing. Thank you for sharing with us in 2013!

AT A GLANCE
Depaul USA created exciting new projects and met with great successes in
2013. In addition to our on‐going work in Philadelphia, Macon, and New
Orleans, in 2013 Depaul USA expanded to St. Louis. Depaul USA now has
housing programs in St. Louis and Philadelphia. Our Macon and New Orleans
projects fill gaps in services, focusing on meeting basic needs—hygiene,
medical, transportation—and collaborating with existing housing and
employment agencies to serve the clients.
Thank you to all those who support us—financially, in‐kind, in spirit, and
with time. Depaul USA innovates to combat homelessness, has increased the
number of individuals served and solutions offered. Welcome to our world—
see where we are and what we do in America!

Our Work
MEET US IN ST. LOUIS
In 2013, Depaul USA began work in St. Louis, merging with Projects MORE
and PLUS, two programs that provide scattered‐site, permanent supportive‐
housing for 70 formerly homeless men and women with
disabilities. Residents live in small apartments where they
restart life, have safe shelter, and maintain modest supplies
of food and clothing. Depaul USA pays landlords the rent for
the apartments, and a team of five caseworkers visits all
residents at least weekly, checking on their health and well‐
being, and assisting with reintegration and development of life‐skills.
DEPAUL USA IN NEW ORLEANS
In 2013, Depaul USA operated the “Movin’ On” program in New Orleans.
This project transports clients of the Rebuild Center to other agencies and
services throughout the New Orleans metropolitan area. Individuals facing
homelessness received health support, eyeglasses, and attended housing‐
related appointments.
In 2014, Depaul USA will launch a rapid re‐housing project in New Orleans,
providing housing and support services for 15 men and women currently
living in shelters or on the street.

DEPAUL HOUSE
Opened in 2009, Depaul House in Philadelphia was Depaul USA’s first
project. This one‐year transitional housing program for 27 men has three
goals for residents: employment, permanent housing, and a savings account.
An Aftercare Program was implemented in 2013 to help Depaul House case
managers stay connected to graduates, ensuring that they integrate
successfully in the community and maintain stability.

IMMACULATE CLEANING SERVICES
Through the establishment and profitable
operation of a small business, Depaul USA
made a name for itself as an innovator in social enterprise. The Philadelphia‐
based commercial cleaning company Immaculate Cleaning Services (ICS):
Returned net profits of $17,000 to Depaul House to support
programming in 2013;
Operates daily and paid over $85,000 in wages to Depaul House
residents and alumni; and
Began a profit‐sharing program, awarding employees in good standing
a portion of profits.
6
MACON AND THE NEW HEALTH CLINIC
During 2013, 1,400 individuals accessed
the services at Depaul USA’s Daybreak
day/resource center in downtown
Macon: showers, laundry facilities, a
communication center, education
services, and recreation.
In 2013, Depaul USA opened a free
healthcare clinic at Daybreak. The clinic
unites Depaul USA and Georgia College &
State University, providing checkups,
medical advice, referrals and
prescriptions.
“This was a place that let me
come in and reestablish myself,
and find a way to live and I’m
just glad they gave me a chance
to do that…I would recommend
this place to anybody who
wanted to get back into the
mainstream. Coming from Ridge
[Shelter], this place is like a
palace, coming from the belly of
the city. A place where you can
relax but you still keep on
moving. They do motivate you,
they give you a lot of options and
encourage you… so you can keep
on the right path. I appreciate
that. I took advantage of the
opportunities that they gave me.
I’m not doing good, I’m not doing
bad, I keep on moving. I know I
can always come here and the
door is always open.”

OUR SUPPORT
SPECIAL THANKS TO OUR VOLUNTEERS AND COMMUNITY PARTNERS
The staff and clients are grateful to our many partners, including universities
and other community organizations that provide additional services to our
program participants. The volunteers make a great impact on our programs,
those we serve, and our communities.
In 2013, volunteers generously donated their time, effort, and goodwill.
MANY THANKS TO CONTRIBUTORS OF IN‐KIND DONATIONS
Depaul USA is deeply appreciative to all who donated a wonderful variety of
goods and services. We received toiletries, food, appliances, clothing, and a
fabulous array of items that were auctioned at Depaul USA’s “Feels Like
Home” Gala. The total value of the in‐kind gifts received in 2013 was more
than $200,000.
