UNDERSTANDING YOUR STUDENT’SNON-WRITING STANDARDS OF LEARNING (SOL) SCORE REPORT

ŒSTUDENT INFORMATIONIdentification information for your student is located in this section ofthe score report.

� TEST ADMINISTRATIONThe test administration in which your student attempted the test(s).

Ž TEST NAMEThe SOL Non-Writing test(s) taken by your student.

� TEST SCALED SCOREThe overall performance results for each SOL test taken by yourstudent. Based on a student’s performance, the student receives atest scaled score ranging from 0 to 600. A student must attain a testscaled score of 400 or higher to pass a test. If a student attains atest scaled score of 500 or higher, the student is considered to haveperformed at an advanced level. A test scaled score between 0 and399 indicates the student did not pass the test. The performanceresults bar(s) are ordered from highest test score to lowest testscore. A footnote is included to explain a test scaled score of ’0’ ora ’No Score’.

�PERFORMANCE LEVELThe performance level is determined by the overall test scaledscore earned by your student for each test. For information aboutthe knowledge and skills typically demonstrated by students whocomplete the Virginia SOL Assessments, please go tohttp://tinyurl.com/vdoe-sol-pld.

‘REPORTING CATEGORIESEach SOL test is divided into reporting categories that representrelated content or skills. Reporting category scaled scores are on ascale of 0-50 and can be used to identify a student’s strengths andweaknesses. A reporting category scaled score of 40 or aboveindicates a strength. A reporting category scaled score below 30indicates the student may benefit from additional instruction in thisarea. ’ADDITIONAL TEST ATTEMPTS*If your student attempted this test more than once during thetest administration, his/her best performance results are shownand the scores from other test attempts are listed here.

*This applies to End-of-Course tests and tests for students needingto meet the literacy and/or numeracy requirements of the ModifiedStandard Diploma.

STANDARD ERROR OF MEASUREMENTAchievement on all tests, including standardized assessments and classroom tests developed by teachers, is subject to what isknown as the standard error of measurement. The standard error of measurement describes the potential of slight variations inachievement when students take multiple tests of equal difficulty covering the same content.
