Fujikura has developed a super-small-diameter leaky coaxial cable with the smallest diameter and the least weight,

ZLCX-2.5D, which has major uses for short-distance wireless communications. *1

The high flexibility of ZLCX-2.5D due to its small outer diameter of about 4 mm and light weight of 21 g/m provides the ease of

wiring and installation in small space. In addition, a new technology enabled vertical emission of radio waves, which is tough

for conventional LCX to perform, and this resolved the problem of the shadow area around the terminal. Installing ZLCX-2.5D

allows the creation of a wireless LAN network environment only on the desk of a meeting room, which requires security, and a

wireless environment by removal of wires connected to switches or sensors from a confined space of an ICT device.

Development of Feeder Messenger Wire Protective Sheath

Fujikura has developed a feeder messenger wire protective sheath to protect wires to feed electric power to trains during

construction. In the past, two protective sheathes were needed to protect two feeder messenger wires, each of which

consists of a feeder wire and a messenger wire. The new product, however, is capable of protecting two wires at once by

having a near rectangular cross section.

The protective sheath is given a shape of the opening to smoothly accommodate two wires. It also has a double-layer

structure (outside: black polyethylene, inside: yellow polyethylene) to be opened easily at the time of accommodation but

closed tightly after that by the adjustment of material strength. Those features help easy attachment to or detachment from a

feeder messenger wire.

Development of Eco-friendly High Flame-retarding Compound

Development of Stainless Cable Protector

Fujikura has developed an ecologically-friendly high flame retardant compound used in sheets by applying our flame retardant

technologies nurtured in developing cladding materials of electric wires.

Despite being free of halogens (no chlorine or bromine), the compound-containing sheet provides a high level of flame

retardancy equivalent to UL 94 V-0 when its thickness is 0.2 mm, which was achieved solely by PVC for general purpose use

in the past. The compound generates much less smoke at the time of combustion than PVC and no black smoke, in

particular, at all. In addition, the compound uses polyolefin as the base material with a low specific gravity and low emission

factor, providing eco-friendliness from the view point of recycling, CO2 reductions and safety to the human body. With

sufficient mechanical properties, the compound is expected to find uses in the fields including vehicles, electronic devices,

and building materials, where environmental friendliness, safety as well as flame retardancy are required.

In the future, we will aim at commercializing the compound by proceeding with the research of secondary machinability such

as environmental durability, drawability, and vacuum formability.

KYOEI HIGH OPT Co., Ltd. has developed a stainless cable protector to prevent damage to a cable caused by rodents

including oriental tree squirrels and mice and started the sales. In the past, stainless-clad cables were usually used to protect

cables against damage by rodents, and thus the whole cable of a section with problems had to be replaced with a

stainless-clad cable. The newly developed stainless cable protector can be wrapped around a cable for general purpose use

and is also attachable to an already-strung cable. Furthermore, the protector can even be installed in a short section if the

damaged area is limited, which also contributes to a reduction in a total cost.

KYOEI HIGH OPT Co., Ltd. has developed SZ Tube to easily tie cables or codes together in a bundle and started the sales.

The products generally used are helical-form tubes and allow the attachment to or detachment from cables or codes only

from the terminal sides. The newly developed SZ Tube has slits at a regular spacing in the S direction and the Z direction

along the length to enable the tube to be attached to or detached from cables or codes from the sides, being something

heretofore nonexistent.
