MARKET POTENTIAL OF DIGITAL TILES INTRODUCED BY
VARMORA GRANITO PVT LTD.
Varmora Granito Pvt LTD is the first Indian tile company who have startsmanufacturing of digital printed tiles. Digital tiles have been introduced
earlier in market by the companies like Kajaria but they are not
manufacturing these tile they imports these tiles.
This project report is a verification of the decision taken by the management
of Varmora tiles in the context of digital tiles that is the decision of
manufacturing in India is right or not. And also many more question like in
which segment digital tiles doing well? What are the pros and cons of
manufacturing digital printed tiles? What type of competition these tiles are facing in the market and what is the
future of digital printed tiles? In which pattern and shades digital printed tiles
coming? What are the qualities does digital tiles have? What are the
advantages of digital tiles over other tiles? These are some questions and this
project it just an effort to answer all these.
Firstly Varmora have introduced digital printing in ceramic tiles and then in
vitrified tiles. There are many advantages of digital printing technology upon
other printing technology. Actually we can say that there are some drawbacks
of these technologies that is why digital is used in printing now.
Digital printing makes tiles more beautiful and gives them more natural look
as a result tiles becomes most beautiful decoration material for residential as
well commercial houses.
With the help of this research we have to find out that how many segments of
market captured by digital printed tiles.

VARMORA IN INDIA
Varmora tiles is one of the growing tile company in Indian tile industry who is
providing customer every type of tile. Varmora Granito Pvt. Ltd. is a
nationwide ceramic conglomerate, with an annual turnover of about 54million USD. The Managing director, Mr. Bhavesh Varmora along with several
entrepreneurs had a clear vision to incept a successful ceramic tile
corporation that would set new standards for excellence and exquisiteness.
What started as small tile plant in 1991, later progressed with giant strides as
a massive nationwide corporation of Wall, Floor, Porcelain and Vitrified Tiles
achieved within a small span of 19 years.
Varmora Granito Pvt ltd is an Indian company which is also fulfilling foreign
demand with domestic need. India ranks seventh in the production of vitrified
tiles. Our share in production in world is only 3.125%of total production a n dt o t a l industry production vitrified tiles have only 8%. So there is a wide
scope for development of this industry. Vitrified tiles are well known
for its quality and glossiness. And also close substitute of natural granite. In
India there are few large manufacturers of vitrified tiles, and Varmora
is one of them. In this era of technology and internet people are
al so aw ar e of bran d an d quality offered by the company.

TILE
A tile is a manufactured piece of hard-wearing material such as ceramic, stone,
metal, or even glass. Tiles are generally used for covering roofs, floors, walls,
showers, or other objects such as tabletops. Alternatively, tile can sometimesrefer to similar units made from lightweight materials such as pearl, wood,
and mineral, typically used for wall and ceiling applications. Less precisely,
the modern term can refer to any sort of construction tile or similar object,
such as rectangular counters used in playing game. The word is derived from
the French word Italian, which is, in turn, from the letin word tegula, meaning
a roof tile, composed of fired clay.
Tiles are often used to form wall and floor coverings, and can range from
simple square tiles to complex mosaics. Tiles are most often made from
porcelain, fired clay or ceramic with a hard glaze, but other materials are alsocommonly used, such as glass, metal, cork, and stone. Tiling stone is typically
marble, onyx, granite or slate. Thinner tiles can be used on walls than on
floors, which require thicker, more durable surfaces.

WHAT ARE DIGITAL PRINTED TILES
There is no change in the composition of tile in case of digital tile also. Body is
same, the only change is in the printing. Means if are using digital printing in
ceramic tile the whole production process will be the same the change whichwill occur is only in printing. The same is in the case of vitrified tiles.
Digital printing gives tiles a natural look and makes them glossier.
Manufacturing of digital tiles is a milestone in the history of Indian tile
industry and Varmora is initiator. With the help of digital printing tiles
becomes so versatile that it can be used any where as a flooring material of aswell as decorating material.

WHAT ARE SCREEN PRINTED TILE?
Screen printing is used in tiles from a long time. There are some draw backs of
this printing thats why a new technique ofprinting has discovered. In foreigncountries like Italy and Spain this digital printing has been used from many
past years.
Screen printed tiles can be seen everywhere at this time. In these type of tiles
screens are used for printing on tiles. Before digital printing market was
covered by screen printed tiles.

SCREEN PRINTING TECHNOLOGY
Screen printing is a stencil method of print making in which a design is
imposed on a screen of silk or other fine mesh, with blank areas coated with
an impermeable substance, and ink is forced through the mesh onto the
printing surface. It is also known as silkscreen, serigraphy, and serigraph.
Screen printing inks can be used to work on a variety of surfaces - such as
textiles, ceramics, metal, wood, paper, glass, and plastic. As a result, screen
printing is used in many different industries, from clothing to product labels
to tile printing.

DIGITAL PRINTING TECHNOLOGY
In digital printing there is no contact with the tile surface. The most popular
technology adopted by most producers of machines is called Drop-On-Demand (DOD). It is based on a piezoelectric device that deforms under
voltage enabling droplet expulsion. The most popular colour system is the
well known CMYK standard. This is an acronym for the colours Cyan, Magenta,
Yellow and Black (for black K is used instead of B to avoid confusion with
Blue). In the CMYK system the black separation contains the details, thus it is
called the "Key plate.Cyan, magenta and yellow overlap in different
percentages to produce the colours in the following figure. They overlap at
100% of each to produce a very dark brown, for this reason the additional
black ink is employed.
Depending on whether there are 3, 4 or 6 inks in the machine a specific
colorimetric procedure is employed to separate colors in the original image to
obtain a plate for each.

In following picture we can see the example.
The final image is reproduced by overlaying these ink colours. To enable high output (more than 1000 m2/hr) the print head assembly
containing the nozzles spans the entire width of the tiles. When the color
assemblies are arranged in succession we have following configuration (byDurst).

ADVANTAGE OF DIGITAL PRINTING OVER SCREEN PRINTING
HIGH DEFINATION TILES
With the help of digital printing tiles are replacing marble. As marble prices
begin to rise in these times of meltdown, tiles are making deeper inroads into
urban homes. And they are getting more makeovers to suit market demands.
These exotic marble tiles come in various shapes and sizes fulfilling needs and
desires of people from all sections of society.
The advantages of digital printed tiles are that they are cheaper than natural
marble, easy-to-install whilst they also retain the beauty of natural marble
With tiles making a style statement for homes, Varmoras Marble finish tiles
promises to suit the demands of the marble lovers. The Platina series of
Marble finish tiles has natural marble textures combined with interesting
texture finishes. With an exact replica of Italian marble, this cost effective tile
can be used for walls, bedrooms, kitchens and bathrooms. Due to digital
printing the veins appear very clear with high details sharp printing. The
series is available in varied textures and colors.
Customize Tiles
RANDOM PRINTING
Patterns and shades are not repeated systematically in digital printing. It is
just like a modern art just let play with the designs. You cannot match the
linings of the tiles with each other.

18
REPLICA OF THE ORIGINAL ONE
With the help of digital printing in tiles we can use customize imaging in tiles
also. Customized imaging is a process with which you press your favourite
image on tiles on a tile mural. The process itself is rarely used for fine art.
Your favourite bike or a floral print or an arty image can be printed on the tile
to adorn the walls of certain areas in your house. The best part of digital
printed tiles is that it brings out the creative person in you.
In one command of computer you will get the same to same copy of the
picture feed in computer in tiles surface. This printing gives lots of designs,
shades and models to tiles. Digital technology prints anything on any type of
surface.
Technology has championed us to achieve what we previously could just
imagine. Creativity and imagination no longer needs to be restricted to
materials and undone by imprecision, says Bhavesh Varmora, the managing
director of Varmora Group.
NATURAL LOOK
You are getting replica of image in the tile with the help of digital printing. It
means there is no change in real and printed one. This quality of digital
printing gives natural look to tiles. Means there is nothing fake in printing
every thing is real.
One another advantage of digital tiles is that the width of this printing is very
deep which makes the printing everlasting.
Varmoras digital printing technology is a classic instance of technology driven
advancement that eliminates all the errors of colour variation and texture
differences commonly noticeable in ceramics.

19
3D PRINTING
Digital printing is closely relates to the 3rd dimensional printing because in
this printing designs can be coded as it is in the drawing.
ABSOLUTE STABILTIY OF IMAGE
The image which is printed on tile is absolute. There is no fear that it will
erase, it is fix on the surface and remain there for a long time.
ELIMINATION OF SO MANY EQUIPMENT
Digital printing have eliminate many equipment from the site likescreens, screen rollers, silicon rollers, devices to engrave, etc. these all makes hough
potch in working area with new technology we get great comfort.
SHORTER TIME TO CHANGE DRAWINGS AND COLORS
Digital technology is commanded by computer so there is very easy to change
drawing and colours. Every thing takes place in one command.
STORAGE AND CONTROL OF ALL PRINTING PARAMETER IS EASIER
Storage and control becomes easier with the advancement in technology with
the help of use can store lots of design and colours in very small area then any
other printing technology.

20
REDUCTION IN STOCKS OF PIGMENT USED
There is reduction of stock of pigment used in printing with the help of digital
technology. This is an advantage of screen printing because in screen printing
you have to store many colours but in digital printing colour mixing technique
is used.
EASIER TESTING IN LOWER COST
Print can be test easily in digital printing because we know that drawing will
be print as it is looking in reality. As storage and testing comes down cost ofmaintenance and storage automatically reduces.
INCREACES CREATIVITY
Digital printing technology automatically increases the creativeness of yours.
As you can put your imagination on tiles surface. It allows you to print any
picture drawing you want to print on tile.

21
IMPROVING POINTS
There are many advantages of digital printing but we must kept into mint that
this technology still have to improve
NO HIGHER THICKNESS OF PASTE
We must also admit that digital printing cannot always substitute for
traditional methods of printing, especially when we need higher thicknesses
of paste or when we need strongly colored surface areas. Work is in progress
so we can expect improvements and further cost reductions because inkjettechnology is still in evolution (after overcoming initial problems). Inkjet
technology is currently expanding its reach to different kinds of tile and, of
course, the technology aspect itself is arousing the interest of more
development.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SCREEN AND DIGITAL PRINTINGS
FASTER
Digital printing is much faster than screen printing. Printing with screens isstill widely used by tile manufacturing companies and is still a quality process,
but the digital process has quickly become the chief alternative for small runs.
The set up for digital is much easier and cost effective. In the screen process
one has to set up a screen for each color the design takes, which means that
the more complex the design is the more screens the printer is going to need.
This increases the manual labor. With digital tiles there are unlimited colors
and no screen. Instead of setting up all the screens beforehand, the only set up
digital requires is a pre-treatment of the tiles, which gives tile a solid base and
this takes a few time
MORE CONTROL
Digital printing offers much more control during the printing process than
screen printing. Digital printing gives a printer the option of auto-matching
ink. Instead of mixing inks, the screen printing way, ink matching allows the
digital printer to print any color from the original design directly onto the tile.
The digital ink process makes it easier to print multi-colored designs digitally
tile.
FLEXIBILITY
Digital printing, which includes direct printing and heat transfers, offers much
flexibility than any printing method in terms of color options and detail.
Unlike screen printing, colors are unlimited and gradients and shading are a
snap.
-

23/41
23
SERIES AND ORDER SIZE
You can print off aslittleorasmany prints as you want. Lets say, for example,
that you want to make a fruit tile for kitchen. You can print out a heat transfer
or order a single shirt without the expensive set up fees that are associated
with screen printing (since an entire screen print has to be made). If you dont
like a part of the design in the final product its easy to go back to your digital
file and correct any mistakes. Also, if your tile turn out so well that you want
to print in large number of quantity, it is very easy to do so.
ACCESSIBILITY
In this day and age people are likely to have some form of access to a
computer. So, exceptions aside, most will already have (or have access to) the
basic materials or equipment needed to design and produce tiles in digital
way. The startup costs therefore are very low.
WEAR AND TEAR
With time, use, wash a tile printed in any format willshowsignsofuse. It is
generally accepted that digital printing methods, though they hold up quite
well, show signs of fatigue sooner than screen printed tiles.
We can also consider these differences as the reason why digitally printed tiles are
coming fast in the market

SWOT ANALYSIS OF VARMORAS DIGITAL TILES
STRENGTH
Varmora is the first manufacturer of digital tiles, so we have cheaperdigital tiles then other compnies as other companies import these tiles
from other countries like Spain and Italy. Because of taxes these tiles
becomes much costlier.
Varmora is the first company who is manufacturing digital printedvitrified tiles this is one of the greatest advantage of its digital tiles
because before digital printing there are very few shades and designs in
vitrified tiles but with the help of this printing changes will occur in
vitrified tile also.
Varmora have better sizes in digital tiles then other companies. Thesizes we in digital printing are 2x1, 200x10, 20x10 with different price,
18x12.
In marketing office of north zone there isa different panel of marketingexpert who is working for the selling, advertisement and for the
networking of digital tiles.

25/41
25
WEAKNESS
Advertisement and launching of Varmoras digital tile is not satisfactory. As there is no information In the market about digital tile. Here I want to
make a fair statement that advertisement technique of Varmora Garnito
Pvt LTD is very weak and unsatisfactory. Total concentrate is upon
personal selling
Digital tiles are very costly that only rich persons can think about them.In big projects it makes trouble to use them in huge quantity because it
crosses the budget.

26
THREATS
Upcoming competitors are the reason of threat. There will be manymore followers in the market who is and who will follow this technique
of printing and Varmora will not get the benefit of first launching of
digital tiles.
Kajaria an all the big player have launched digital tiles this makescompetitiom more and more tough because they are the brand name in
tile industry. Cutomer will love to buy digital tiles manufactured by
these companies.
Sunhart will also became a big problem for Varmoras digital tiles.
OPPORTUNITY
In coming future digital tiles will fired in the market. The uses of digital will
increases

LIMITATION OF THE STUDY
The data collected from the dealers might not be very accurate to obtaindesired result
The sample size which has been taken is small, to make a universaldecision.
There was a lack of time and resources that prevented from carrying outon in depth study
The findings of the respondent and there is subjective opinion of therespondent and there is no way of acquiring truth of the statement
there is some respondent bias which cannot be removed.
There is influence of others on this project report like shortage ofinformation, Lack of necessary tools and many more things.
Some time there is misunderstanding of concept in the mind ofrespondent at the time he is filling questionnaire.
Hurried filling of the questionnaire is also a limitation of the study. In rapidly changing industry this type of analysis are not satisfactory
there is a need of updated information in each minute.
The environmental change is vital they can defeat any result.

FINDINGS
This time digital tiles are in their introductory stage in market. Somaking any broad conclusion is wrong in itself.
There are many other firms who have started the production of digitalprinted tiles. This is rapidly increasing the competition. In future this
competition becomes more and more tough.
Market price of digital tile is very higher then other normal tiles. Thismake customer thoughtful about these tiles. In projects it will cost very
high.
Customers who are not very strong financially, they are not thinkingabout digital tiles.
The print of digital tiles is marvellous. This printing will becomemilestone in the field of vitrified tiles because the only drawback of
vitrified tile is there are very few shades and design in it but with the
help of digital printing
this weakness can be overcome.
As we know that digital tiles are costlier then other simple tiles. Dealershave to deal with customer and in negotiation margin comes down
thats why they are complaining for margin.

SUGGESTION
The must thing which is required is advertisement and launching. In oursurvey we have find out that there is lack of information in market
aboutVarmoras digital tiles. Advertisement can really helpful in it.
Our sales executive can also help dealers in framing display in showroom.
There is lack of competitors analysis, for tackling competition it ismandatory to get updated information of your competitors.
If Varmora provide digital tiles to customer with cheaper rate it willreally increase sale of digital tiles and also increase the market
potential.
There is need to create a good information channel which will help ingetting new orders
In the international market Internet plays a major role today, we havealso an opportunity to sell our product from getting on lineorder on internet, so the company should improve its web site and also
have to improve online order booking process.
Company should increase its production strength because there is moredemand in the market for Varmora companies tiles
Company should give different offer to the consumers to attract them.

Company is not making a constant reply or using the internet properlyfor the well going of business.
Packaging should be taken into consideration our study concludedthat packaging is poor.
To create brand image it is necessary to focus on retail marketingalso
Company should have to work upon its service after sale, which isalso poor.

CONCLUSION
Digital tiles are getting good market feedback; there are chances ofgrowth of these tiles in market in future as a decoration material.
Digital tiles gives a natural look to tiles the biggest advantage of thistechnology can be seen in vitrified tiles. This printing technology makes
them more beautiful and marble like.
The price of digital tiles is two times higher than other simple tiles andin tile industry price matters a lot.
The majority of respondent who are using digital tiles in their home arefinancially much strong.
Customers are not so aware about the features and advantages of digitaltiles. The question which arises in their mind again and again is that
why digital tiles are so costly? What is so unique in it?
It is also spoken by the marketing expert that the prices of digital tileswill turn down very soon due to high competition.
