Labysheedy (The Silken Bed)

I’d make a bed for youin Labysheedyin the tall grassunder the wrestling treeswhere your skinwould be silk upon silkin the darknesswhen the moths are coming down.

Skin which glistensshining over your limbslike milk being pouredfrom jugs at dinnertime;your hair is a herd of goatsmoving over rolling hills,hills that have high cliffsand two ravines.

And your damp lipswould be as sweet as sugarat evening and we walkingby the riversidewith honeyed breezesblowing over the Shannonand the fuchsias bowing down to youone by one.

The fuchsias bending lowtheir solemn headsin obeisance to the beautyin front of themI would pick a pair of flowersas pendant earringsto adorn youlike a bride in shining clothes.

O I’d make a bed for youin Labysheedy,in the twilight hourwith evening falling slowand what a pleasure it would beto have our limbs entwinewrestlingwhile the moths are coming down.
