　門脇灯台を登るとプリンのような形をした大室山が見えます。リフトでのみ登ることができる山頂には、すり鉢状の大きな火口があり、この山が火山であることがわかります。約 4000 年前に噴火した大室山の溶岩は、相模灘に流れこんで海を埋め立て、新たな陸地を作り出しました。この溶岩の先端が城ヶ崎海岸です。ここには、溶岩が波に洗われる、迫力ある岩石海岸が広がっています。　遊歩道を歩くと、そこに生きるさまざまな植物や生き物の様子も楽しむことができます。Shaped like a mound of pudding, Omuroyama volcano can be seen from this lighthouse. Its large bowl-like crater at the summit, which is accessible by a chairlift, is evidence of this mountain's volcanic past. Lava from its eruption about 4,000 years ago flowed into Sagami Sea, buried the ocean, and created the land. The outermost edge of this lava flow is Jogasaki Coast, the site of an impres-sive rocky coast expanding along the area where the lava was washed away by waves from the ocean. From the promenade walk, you can also enjoy the abundant variety of living creatures.

　約 15 万年前から活動を始めた伊豆東部火山群は、伊豆半島の東部とその沖合の海底に分布する単成火山の集まりで、伊豆半島各地に新しい大地を作り出してきました。　単成火山は、1 度噴火すると、同じ場所で再噴火しないという変わった性質があり、小さな火口があちこちに分布しています。　大室山だけでなく小室山や巣雲山、一碧湖などもこの火山群の仲間です。

The Izu tobu volcano group, which started being active about 150,000 years ago, is a collection of monogenetic volcanoes distributed along the eastern part of the Izu pen-insula and its offshore ocean floor. It is responsible for creating new land formations throughout the Izu peninsula. Monogenetic volcanoes have the rare characteristic of only erupting once in any one given location. Small monogenetic volcanoes dot the area. In addition to Omuroyama volcano, areas like the Komuroyama volcano, Suku-moyama volcano and Lake Ippeki also fit this description.
