3.专业介绍MSc/PGDip/PGCert in International Hotel Management
The MSc programme in International Hotel Management, from the School of Management,
concentrates on the operation, delivery, management and strategic issues involved with providing
successful hotel and related services worldwide. This includes an understanding of the economic,
social and technical issues involved in such operations.
An integral part of the programme is to encourage students to consider hospitality management
from the strategic perspective. Increasingly it is recognised that successful organisations may
achieve competitive advantage from the effective strategic management of assets, competences
and capabilities. For example, students will gain knowledge of, and be able to identify, the key
strategic decisions facing hospitality or food operations managers, and evaluate alternative
approaches to the strategic management of these key decision areas.
The programme will be of particular interest to graduates who wish to build a career, or
experienced managers and executives who wish to broaden their knowledge and improve their
skills in modern business practice, and educators in the hotel field who wish to further their
knowledge.
MSc/PGDip/PGCert in Tourism Management
Celebrating its 40th anniversary, our MSc in Tourism Management is one of the longest
established university programmes in tourism in the world. Our first students joined the
programme in 1972 and since then many have gone on to occupy senior positions in industry,
government bodies and academia in many different parts of the world.
The programme takes a broad view of tourism and provides an opportunity to explore issues and
problems relevant to a wide range of situations and aspects likely to be faced by managers and
other professionals. The programme aims to provide an in-depth analysis of what has become one
of the world's largest industries. It gives an opportunity to develop academic skills and knowledge.
At the same time it maintains a practical focus on the rapidly developing tourism industry.
Its intensive but generalist approach aims to prepare students for a wide range of possible careers
in travel and tourism. It is designed to provide an appropriate base for employment opportunities
in official tourist organisations, in transport, hotels, tour operating and travel agency companies, in
government and other organisations where knowledge of tourism is important.

3. 专业介绍Tourism is a major item in international trade and a significant contributor to the GDP of many
developed and developing countries. Its importance of tourism as a significant growth industry
and the linchpin of national and regional economies is widely recognised. However, the industry
also brings social, cultural and environmental costs to a destination. The basic aim of the MSc in
Tourism is to present and develop a critical perspective towards tourism as an industry, but also as
a discipline.
The Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management (formerly The Scottish Hotel School)
has long recognised that none of the traditional academic disciplines alone provides the necessary
knowledge and expertise for tourism administration and management. An interdisciplinary
approach is essential, making tourism an ideal subject for multidisciplinary postgraduate study.

equivalent and tourism-related experience is welcome. The course is intended for non-tourism
graduates who wish to gain a respected postgraduate qualification in the tourism field.
The course
The course aims to provide graduates from a variety of disciplines with a comprehensive
understanding of the nature of tourism and a range of transferable skills which will equip them for
rewarding careers in this increasingly important economic sector.
In addition, the Postgraduate Diploma/MSc in Tourism is designed to meet the needs of the
national governments, international organisations and industry for adequately qualified, graduate
staff who are trained and equipped to manage tourism development and control.
Course structure
The taught part of the course consists of ten modules (five compulsory, five optional). Students
can select options from the range of postgraduate tourism and hospitality classes offered by the
Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management.
Successful completion of ten modules leads to the award of the Postgraduate Diploma. In addition

Course Outline
Tourism is the largest industry in the world and excellent managers are sought worldwide. This
programme builds upon undergraduate studies of tourism and/or management that tend to have a
limited focus with regard to developing the tourism manager. Socio-geographical themes are
developed alongside management issues and packaged through the requirement to understand
tourism research. This process ensures an excellent preparation for both a career in tourism
management and for further study.
Modules studied consider a range of current management priorities. These frame two specialist
tourism modules on tourism geographies and on management issues within tourism. An option
exists in which students can develop management skills in a practical or theoretical way.
Lectures are used to support seminar discussions whilst workshops develop management skills.
The entire programme is assessed by regular coursework involving reports and essays and by the
production of a 20,000 word dissertation.

3. International Hospitality and Tourism Management - MSc Accredited by the European Foundation for Management Development Accreditation
System (EPAS) and by the Institute of Hospitality.
The MSc in International Hospitality and Tourism Management provides an opportunity for
honours graduates from unrelated disciplines such as art, economics, history, languages,
linguistics, law and politics to study travel and tourism at the postgraduate level. Although
beneficial, prior work experience in the hospitality and tourism industry is not an entry
requirement for this programme. The focus of your studies will be on understanding the
international hospitality and tourism environment. We recruit students from all around the world,
and this creates an exciting multicultural study atmosphere. This master’s programme has flexible
study modes: full-time and sandwich for all students and part-time for British and European Union
students.
Our aim is to provide you with intellectual and professional development, and to develop your
understanding of hospitality and tourism business practice and public sector tourism issues from
multiple perspectives. You will be introduced to a range of concepts and theories that will enable
you to analyse tourism and hospitality contexts in national and international situations and in the
private and public sectors. The programme will explore current and future trends in tourism
management, enabling you to further develop your analytical and decision-making skills. Many
students have been able to develop a career in hotels, travel and tourism after graduating from this
programme.
Hospitality and tourism education at Oxford Brookes University Business School has an excellent,
international reputation for quality and innovation in learning and teaching. Leading hospitality
organisations visit the campus to recruit students, and our dedicated careers service and master's
sandwich mode of study provide graduates with accelerated career opportunities. There may be
opportunities for placements in international hotel and tourism companies.
Teaching, learning and assessment
The Oxford Brookes innovative learning experience on this MSc includes strong links between the
Tourist Consumer Behaviour and Marketing Management modules, with field trips and student
presentations on 'hot topics'. The Hospitality Operations module combines practice with a
computer based simulation to introduce you to the crucial links between financial, human
resource, marketing and operations management. The Contemporary Issues module provides you
with the opportunity to research and write an academic journal article on any hospitality and
tourism topic. You can be confident about the expertise of your tutors; all are involved in research
and/or consultancy activities, and many have written internationally recognised hospitality and
tourism textbooks. They bring their excellent links with the hospitality and tourism industry into
the classroom to inform you of contemporary developments taking place in the real world.
Learning and teaching is very much student-centred, participative and interactive. You will take
part in workshops, seminars, lectures, case study analysis and one-to-one tutorials.
The full-time mode involves approximately 15 hours of contact time per week, but in addition
there is a significant amount of independent and group study time. You will therefore be expected
to take a great deal of responsibility for your own learning and to manage your time effectively.
Assessment is based predominantly on individual coursework and the dissertation.
Course content
The following compulsory modules enable you to develop a deep understanding of the complexity
of the international hospitality, travel and tourism environment:
Hospitality Operations Management introduces you to the complexity of hospitality operations
within an international context. Drawing on relevant operations management principles, you will
acquire an understanding of financial, human resource and marketing management knowledge at
the unit level, which underpins the successful management of accommodation, food and beverage
operations. There will be site visits to local hospitality businesses to familiarise students with
practical examples from industry, and a computer based hotel business simulation assignment.
Tourism and Hospitality Synthesis offers you an introduction and overview of the context,
frameworks, concepts, theories and issues in the contemporary tourism and hospitality industries.
The module provides you with the basis to systematically and incisively analyse and evaluate
complex tourism and hospitality situations.
Tourist Consumer Behaviour investigates the theoretical frameworks derived primarily from the
marketing discipline that underpins patterns of consumer demand and usage. It incorporates
models and concepts drawn from mainstream marketing, tourism marketing, and the social
sciences – so forming a comprehensive understanding of tourist consumer demand. While the
theoretical contribution is generic and applicable to any tourism-specific situation, an appreciation
of the current global trends in tourist consumer behaviour is also included. The main focus of the
module is the tourist decision process, but the inseparable nature of the product as an extended
experience necessitates consideration of on-site consumption and post-experience behaviour.
There will be site visits to local tourism organisations to familiarise students with practical
examples from industry.
Marketing Management for Travel and Tourism builds on the understanding of tourist demand
developed in Tourist Consumer Behaviour, and examines the marketing management response.
For travel and tourism, effective and creative marketing based on sound analysis is important both
at the strategic and tactical level, and is relevant to the complete range of tourism sectors and
categories. Students will work with the different elements of marketing including the marketing
plan, and apply these ideas to different examples from the tourism industry. In raising students'
critical appreciation of the complexities of marketing management in travel and tourism, key
trends and issues will be explored, including the incorporation of sustainability into marketing
management thinking. The module will draw on internal and external expertise in tourism
marketing from academia and industry.
Contemporary Issues in International Hospitality and Tourism Management provides you
with the opportunity to develop a research specialism in climate change, entrepreneurship,
environmental issues, finance, human resources, marketing, or the internet as applied to the
international hospitality and tourism sector, or you can choose another contemporary topic from a
wide range of options. In this module you will research a contemporary thematic area, critically
analyse the literature and theory, and write an article suitable for publication in an academic
journal. In undertaking this module you will work on your own with the support of an expert tutor.
You can choose one elective from a choice of hospitality, tourism or business modules including
Destination and Event Development, Interactive Skills in a Cross-Cultural Context, and Internet
Strategies for Tourism Distribution. Other electives will also be available.
Research Methods and Dissertation provides you with an introduction to research methods so
that you are aware of the approaches, methodologies and resources available for your dissertation.
The module enables you to design a research project that will ensure that you generate the
information required to write the dissertation. You will develop the ability to critically review
literature, to identify the gaps in knowledge and develop relevant research skills to facilitate data
collection, analysis, interpretation, presentation and writing. The 20,000 word dissertation
provides you with the opportunity to demonstrate what you have learned and what you can do, and
it shows whether you have the ability to work independently. You choose the hospitality or
tourism management topic which you wish to study - this can be the same topic as your

4. International Hotel and Resort Management - MSc
Accredited by the European Foundation for Management Development Accreditation
System (EPAS) and by the Institute of Hospitality.
The MSc in International Hotel and Resort Management provides an opportunity for honours
graduates in hotel, tourism and management degree subjects, who have a minimum of one year's
relevant work experience, to study at master's level.
International hotel companies have developed into complex organisations managing a wide
spectrum of ancillary services such as conferences, events, extended stay, leisure and sporting
activities and time share management. Increasingly global companies like Four Seasons, Marriott,
Millennium and Shangri-La describe themselves as international hotel and resort businesses. This
well-established MSc programme has been redesigned to reflect contemporary trends, by
incorporating ancillary services management into the curriculum and assessment, to better prepare
our graduates for careers in the hotel and resort industry.
You can choose to focus on a specific aspect of international hotel and resort management in your
studies – for example entrepreneurship, environmental issues, finance, human resources,
marketing, and the internet – or you can adopt a broader approach to your education. You can also
focus on a specific sector of the industry in many of your modules.
Our aim is to provide you with intellectual and professional development, and to develop your
awareness of culture from multiple perspectives; these are essential qualities for effective
international hotel and tourism management. There are options to specialise in several subjects
including named awards in financial management, marketing or human resources. You will learn
about approaches to management decision making, critical evaluation, reflective practice, and
strategic and tactical analysis to solve international business problems in the hospitality and
tourism industry.
Hospitality and tourism education at Oxford Brookes University Business School has an excellent
international reputation for quality and innovation in learning and teaching. Indeed, leading
hospitality and tourism organisations visit the campus to recruit students; and our dedicated
careers service and master's sandwich mode of study provide graduates with accelerated career
opportunities.
Teaching, learning and assessment
The Oxford Brookes innovative learning experience on this MSc includes theatre role-plays in
Strategic Management Accounting; creativity in hotel and resort brand design in Marketing Across
Cultures; strong links between the Marketing Across Cultures and International Human Resource
Management modules; building your own live-case study on a hospitality or tourism company in
Strategic Management; and researching/writing an academic journal article in the Contemporary
Issues module. Tutors involved in the programme are internationally renowned for their research
and consultancy activities, and their excellent links with the hotel and tourism industry. They bring
this expertise into the classroom to inform you of contemporary developments taking place in
hospitality. Learning and teaching is very much student-centred, participative and interactive. You
will take part in workshops, seminars, lectures, theatre role-plays, case study analysis and one-to-
one tutorials.
The full-time mode involves approximately 15 hours of staff contact time per week, but in
addition there is a significant amount of independent and group study time. You will therefore be
expected to take a great deal of responsibility for your own learning and to manage your time
effectively. Assessment is based predominantly on individual coursework and the dissertation.
Course content
The following modules build upon your previous learning and work experience to enable you to
develop a deeper understanding of the complexity of international hotel and resort management in
today’s turbulent tourism environment:
Strategic Management Accounting focuses on the use of financial information for managerial
decision making in the international hotel and resort industry. The content includes an exploration
of key financial issues, an appraisal of financial techniques and current developments applicable to
managerial decision making. In a small group with other international students you will devise a
theatre role-play to explain a current financial topic (to your fellow students).
International Human Resource Management enables you to assess the international hotel and
tourism environment so that you can make judgements about the most appropriate human resource
management approaches to adopt in different situations. It also aims to increase your awareness of
issues that need to be considered when companies decide to expand beyond their domestic market.
You will learn how to develop a human resource strategy that supports your chosen market entry
strategy for a hospitality company's expansion into a new country. You will also be introduced to a
range of practical approaches for the management of people in contemporary organisations.
Marketing Across Cultures introduces you to the concept of marketing within an international
hotel and resort context. It provides you with conceptual frameworks to analyse the strategies of
international hotel and resort companies. A key feature of the module is the emphasis on the
cultural differences and similarities that international hospitality/resort operators have to
understand if they are to develop effective global marketing strategies. Working in groups, you
will carry out a non-assessed comparative research exercise into a country and market sector from
a hotel/restaurant/resort marketing perspective. Your individual assignment involves a country
market analysis and market entry strategy for a British hospitality brand's international expansion
programme - and you design your own brand!
Strategic Management in International Tourism Firms As strategic management is, by nature,
inter-disciplinary, this module aims to integrate the knowledge you have gained about aspects of
the management of hotel and tourism products/services from modules taken in the first semester.
In a team you will research the historic and current business context of one sector of the
international tourism industry and then individually you will build a case study for one of the
leading companies in your sector. Finally, you will make recommendations for future strategy at
executive board level. It is now widely recognised that an international manager must be more
than operationally driven; indeed today's international manager must also be a strategic thinker in
order to achieve the best performance results for an organisation on a worldwide basis. This
module helps you to develop the ability to think strategically.
Contemporary Issues in International Hospitality and Tourism Management provides you
with the opportunity to develop a research specialism in climate change, entrepreneurship,
environmental issues, finance, human resources, marketing, or the internet as applied to the
international hospitality and resort sector, or you can choose another contemporary topic from a
wide choice of options. In this module you will research a contemporary thematic area, critically
analyse the literature and theory, and write an article suitable for publication in an academic
journal. In undertaking this module you will work on your own with the support of an expert tutor.
One elective You can choose one elective from a choice of hospitality, tourism or business
modules including Destination and Event Development, Interactive Skills in a Cross-Cultural
Context, or Internet Strategies for Tourism Distribution.
The 20,000-word dissertation
provides you with the opportunity to demonstrate what you have learned and what you can do, and
shows whether you have the ability to work independently. You choose the management topic
which you wish to study - this can be the same topic as your Contemporary Issues module or a
different subject area.
The sandwich mode comprises one year of full-time MSc taught study and one year of full-time,
supervised work experience. You have two options:
You can join the programme in January and take the Introduction to Work module. This
provides 24 weeks of supervised work experience at an operative level in Oxford before
starting the MSc taught component in September. You would then complete your year's
work experience by taking the Manager in Development module after finishing the taught
part of the programme.
You can take all of your work experience after studying on the MSc taught component.
The sandwich mode of study provides paid, supervised work experience to support your
academic studies with a suitable international hospitality and tourism employer, and you
carry out an assessed project for the company.

5.MBA (specialism in Hotel and Tourism Management) - MBA Accredited by the Association of MBAs (AMBA)
This MBA programme with specialism in Hotel and Tourism Management is designed to satisfy
the increasing demand worldwide for effective professional managers. Our aim is to prepare you
for the challenges of senior management.
It combines the very best of a general MBA with further specialist knowledge in the area of
hospitality and tourism management. It is attractive to students who already have a background in
the hotel and/or tourism industry.
This specialism can be taken with the full-time or executive modes of study offered on the core
MBA programme, subject to your ability to attend specialist electives taught on campus at Oxford
Brookes during the week (for a current timetable, please contact the programme administrator).
All managerial specialisms include an elective programme and a dissertation in your chosen area,
but the degree title remains MBA.
Teaching, learning and assessment
Lectures and discussions, role-play exercises, learning packages and seminars will be linked with
selected case studies and assignments to strengthen your practical analysis and decision-making
skills. You will have the opportunity to develop your skills in team working through structured
syndicate work and group assignments. Your learning experience will be greatly enhanced by the
knowledge of life and work that you and your fellow students bring to discussion and debate.
Course content
The MBA attracts students from over 30 countries, most of whom significantly surpass the
minimum entry requirements for the programme. Places are highly sought after and the number of
applicants admitted is strictly limited to ensure a supportive, friendly learning environment for all.
It begins in September with an induction designed to accelerate the process of developing
participants into the MBA team.
Students have various motives for studying their MBA on a full-time basis. For some it represents
the fastest way of gaining the qualification and completing their formal education after some work
experience. For others it may give them time and space to rethink their career strategy or to take
time out to develop the strategic skills necessary to further their careers. This often applies to those
charged with the responsibility of taking over a family business or others who have an outline idea
for a new business and who wish to refine their thinking and appraise all options. Whatever your
motivation we believe that successfully completing your MBA with us will increase your
knowledge, skills, confidence and career options. It will be hard work but also fun.
Studying full-time gives you the best opportunity to share experience with fellow international
colleagues and enables you to focus full-time on your development to realise your potential.
You will study the core modules of the MBA and then take the Contemporary Issues in Hospitality
and Tourism Management elective. This enables you to undertake some original research into a
hospitality and tourism management project, as well as helping you prepare for the submission of
a dissertation that focuses on an area of the industry that particularly interests you.
Electives are reviewed each year and may run at different times. It is therefore advisable to check
the timings with the course administrator at the time of application.

Modules for this programme
Learning and assessment
The MSc programme is structured to be studied full time over one year, but is also available in
part-time mode through selection of individual study units called modules. Modules are of
universal size (20 credits) with the exception of the dissertation, which is 60 credits. The academic
year is divided into three periods. Up to 60 taught credits may be taken in each of Periods 1 and 2;
successful completion results in either the award of a Postgraduate Diploma (120 credits) or
progression to the MSc degree through an additional 60 dissertation credits taken in the summer
semester. Students with more than 60 credits but less than 120 may be offered a Postgraduate
Certificate under the university"s Academic Regulations.
In full-time mode the taught components of the PgDip and MSc will be delivered over two
periods. Period 1 will start in early October and finish in mid-December. Period 2 will start in
early January, finishing in mid March. Provisional results from the first two periods will be
available following the June subject panels. Students will be counselled on progress at the end of
Period 1 and Period 2.
The MSc research project will take place in Period 3, immediately following period 2, and be
completed by mid-September of the following year.
Assessment Philosophy
The pattern of assessment is designed to provide feedback on student"s progress and level of
achievement for both the students themselves and the module leaders; in particular:
to ensure that students achieve the depth and breadth of study appropriate to a
postgraduate programme;
to aid the learning process by providing opportunities for students to test and develop
their knowledge and skills as the programme unfolds;
to increase the student"s enthusiasm for the subjects under study and encourage them to
want to learn more; and
to integrate theory and practice.
Methods of Assessment
A range of assessment methods, including seen and unseen examinations, essays, reports, case-
studies, and oral presentations will be used to measure student performance academically and in
relation to experiences in the workplace. Details are provided in the module handbooks.
4. 录取条件Entry requirements

4.录取要求Academic entry requirements
Academic entry requirements vary and will depend on the course you wish to study. For further
information take a look at the course information in the Courses Search.
We accept a wide range of international qualifications. For information about how your
qualifications relate to those in the UK, we suggest taking a look at the NARIC (National
Academic Recognition Information Centre) website. In all cases, we consider students on the basis
of their whole application and on evidence of their ability to benefit from the course and to
complete it successfully.
Take a look at our country specific information which identifies entry requirements applicable to a
particular country.
Taught Postgraduate (Masters) Degrees
For admission to a Masters Degree, you should normally have a good Bachelors (Honours)
Degree or Advanced Diploma, which requires at least 3 years of university-level study, or an
equivalent professional qualification.
Research Degrees
The usual requirement for embarking on a degree by research is a Master Degree. However,
applicants may also demonstrate by publications or academic references that they are capable of
working for a research degree.
The majority of candidates initially register for the award of MPhil (Master of Philosophy). Direct
entry to a PhD can be considered for applicants with a Masters Degree in a relevant subject.
European Credit Transfer Scheme (ECTS)
If you are studying a postgraduate course in an EU country your qualification will probably be
graded using ECTS.
BU accepts ECTS credits for entry to its courses. Two BU academic credits is equivalent to one
ECTS credit.
