DESCRIPTION

Paula Desplaines set out to design furniture for her pets with a dual function in mind. Having lived her life in small spaces in big cities, she tired of having an ugly pet bed taking up valuable human l iving space. Doggiedasherie was created so that pet lovers can incorporate their pets’ necessities as well as their own aesthetic needs into their modern living environments. Five of Doggiedasherie’s handcrafted pet beds also double as end tables.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS AND TECHNICAL INFORMATION

WOODEN COMPONENTS:

The standard finish of the wood on all Antoine Proulx furniture is a water-based polycarbonate urethane: a water-clear, non-yellowing coating engi-neered to provide exceptional adhesion, resistance, weatherability, and pro-tection The wood is then waxed to enhance its natural tone and depth.

Use a high grade furniture paste wax such as Simonize, Minwax FinishingWax, or Butcher's Wax on wood components about every six months ormore depending on furniture’s usage and direct exposure to sun. Rub somewax onto the wood, allow to dry for a few moments, then buff off with asoft, clean, dry cloth. Do not use furniture oils or sprays (for example, never use Pledge, Liquid Gold, Endust, or Old English Lemon Oil). Tominimize physical damage to your table, use coasters, tablecloths, and hotpads. Don't cover tables with plastic pads because the plastic and finishmay stick together.

STEEL COMPONENTS:

Our cold-rolled steel inlays and supports are first degreased, sandblasted, milled, then finished with a baked-on epoxy. Cold-rolled steel is animperfect material which exhibits natural pits and changes in density. This is an extruded product, not a cast element. The innate propertiesof the cold-rolled steel are not defects, simply natural characteristics.

Don't cover metal components with plastic (for moving) because the plas-tic and finish may stick together.

This finish needs only be Windexed periodically to remove finger printsand is, otherwise, virtually maintenance free. Never use an abrasive pador cleanser.

PUMICED ALUMINUM:

The hardened aluminum used by Antoine Proulx has first been sandedwith an orbital sander, then pumiced by hand to eliminate any deepscratches and marks in the natural aluminum and to create the luminoussheen. Aluminum is a soft metal that is resistant to oxidization and rust.It does, however, scratch easily with normal use. Allowed to scratch, thepumiced aluminum creates its own new textured surface.

To remove finger prints, smudges, and dirt, simply clean as you would aglass table top with an ammonia-based product such as Windex. Heavyprints and rings caused by acidic liquids may be removed with an abrasivecleanser such as Ajax, Comet, or Bon Ami. Clean as you would a kitchensink: wet a sponge with water, sprinkle some Ajax on the table top, andrub gently in a circular motion. Rinse several times with clean water (toremove any residue Ajax) and finish with Windex (to remove any blackoxidation). Abrasive cleansers also help to hide scratches.

DO NOT, however, use abrasive pads or steel wool (like Brillo) whencleaning with Ajax. Abrasive pads cause shiny scratches, the exact onesyou wish to reduce or eliminate. Hard to remove grease or oil stains maybe cleaned with lacquer thinner or acetone on a clean, dry cloth.

NEO LACQUER FINISH

Our standard NeoLacquer finish is a water-based, pigmented 100%acrylic. It behaves like any painted surface. It can scratch and chip if notcarefully used. As with our standard wooden components, we recom-mend the use of coasters, tablecloths, and hot pads.

You may clean it with a soft cotton cloth slightly dampened with wateronly if necessary. Use a high grade furniture paste wax such as Simonize,Minwax Finishing Wax, or Butcher's Wax on wood components aboutevery six months or more depending on furniture’s usage and direct expo-sure to sun. Rub some wax onto the wood, allow to dry for a fewmoments, then buff off with a soft, clean, dry cloth. DO NOT use anyabrasive cleaners, amonia-based products, or abrasive pads. Do not usefurniture oils or sprays (for example, never use Pledge, Liquid Gold,Endust, or Old English Lemon Oil).

DINING TABLES WITH EXTENSION AND LEAVES:

Our dining tables fabricated with an extension mechanism to accommo-date leaves are meant to be extended for occasional use only. Keeping thetable extended with the leaves in at all times is not recommended. Theweight of the table top and leaves (coupled with gravity) could cause thetable top to sag over time.

TECHNICAL INFORMATION REGARDING “33” STYLES:

On occasion, movers mishandle our tables ending in “33.” That is, theysometimes rest them on end or on an angle which loosens the legs’ bolts. The under side of these tables has been designed so that your installer canstraighten and tighten the bolts of the effected legs. First, using a rubbermallet, bang the leg into place so that the top of the leg is flush with thetable top and so that the outer edge of the leg is flush with the tableapron. Then, using a 9/16” wrench (either open-ended or box-ended),tighten the bolts against the table’s side apron. Using a #2 square drivescrewdriver (or #2 phillips head screwdriver), tighten the bolts into thetable’s top.

PHILOSOPHY:

The characteristic sought most by the Antoine Proulx line of handcraftedfurniture is the contrast achieved by combining “industrial” steel withluxurious, fine woods. The contrast of “industrial” and “luxe” and natu-ral beauty which is allowed to age gracefully is the philosophy of AntoineProulx.
