This slide shows the production structure of the Vietnamese iron and steel industry in 2004. Upper half is long sector. The problems of this sector include over capacity of rolling mills, and shortage of steelmaking capacity. Recently, investment rush to steelmaking factory is observed. If more an more electric arc furnaces will start their operation, the problem will change from billet shortage to scrap shortage. Lower half is flat sector. The problems of this sector is shortage of rolling capacity. In 2005, the first cold rolling mill started its operation. But its capacity is small. And, flat sector in Vietnam cannot produce high grade steel. I will discuss it later.
