GARDAÍ were continuingto hold a former politiciantoday who was arrested inCork city after allegedlytrying to hire a hitman tomurder three people.

man is accused of conspiring tomurder a fraud squad garda, arevenue official and an accountantwho were thought to be involvedin an investigation into his finan-cial affairs.The man was arrested yesterday

wider investigation over recentmonths that includes other threat-ening behaviour towards a Reven-ue official and an accountant.The man was previously ques-

tioned about offences under theCriminal Justice Fraud and TheftAct, but was released withoutcharge.He was being questioned today

at Gurranabraher Garda Stationunder section 50 of the CriminalJustice Act and he can be held forup to seven days.

Edward Bryan to be sentencedFORMER Christian Brother EdwardBryan, who was last week foundguilty on seven counts of indecentlyassaulting boys at the NorthMonastery Secondary School inCork in the Eighties, was due to besentenced today.

Bryan, of Martinvilla, Trim, Co.Meath, had denied 10 counts ofindecently assaulting four boys atthe North Monastery on datesbetween September 1, 1984 and June30, 1990. He was remanded incustody last Thursday until today.
