CAUTION:Before beginning pedestal assembly, carefully lay the front of the LCD Panel face down on a at,cushioned surface such as a quilt or blanket. Leave the bottom of the unit protruding over the edge of thesurface and assemble as indicated.
Note:Extreme care should always be used when attaching the pedestal stand to avoid damage to the LCD panel.

Important Safety Instructions
Be sure to observe the following instructions andprecautions to ensure safe use of this TV.
Installation
1) 32PX200 Series / 40PX200 Series modelsWARNING: To prevent injury, this apparatusmust be securely attached to the oor/wall inaccordance with the installation instructions.Install the TV in a horizontal, stable location.Attach the TV to the stand with the mountingscrew. If the TV is not installed securely, it may lean or
fall over and cause an injury. To prevent injury, use the exclusive optional
stand or wall-hanging bracket to install thisTV on the oor or wall securely in accordancewith a qualified technician.

2) Never place the TV in an unstabilized locationsuch as on a shaky table, incline or locationsubject to vibration. Only use cabinets or stands recommended by
the TV manufacturer.
Only use furniture that can safely support theTV. Ensure that the TV is not hanging over the
edge of the supporting furniture. Never place the TV on tall furniture (for
example, cupboards or bookcases) withoutanchoring both the furniture and the TV to asuitable support.
Never stand the TV on cloth or other materialplaced between the TV and supportingfurniture.
The TV may drop or fall off, which may cause aninjury or damage.
3) Never stand or climb on the TV.
Educate children about the dangers ofclimbing on furniture to reach the TV or itscontrols.
Be especially careful in households with children
to prevent them through climbing on top of
the TV. It may move, fall over, break, become
damaged or cause an injury.

4) Always connect the power plug to anappropriate electrical outlet equipped with110-240V AC, 50/60Hz.
Never use the TV outside the specified voltage
range. It may cause a fire or an electric shock.

About the fuse (only for E models)
In a three pin earthing-type, the fuse fitted in
this plug is approved by ASTA or BSI to BS1362.
It should only be replaced by a correctly rated
and approved type and the fuse cover must be
refitted.
5) Never insert or remove the power plug withwet hands.
This may cause an electric shock.
6) Never block or cover the slots and openings inthe cabinet. Never place the TV so that it is facing upward
or on its side. Never place the TV in a closet, bookcase or
other similar area where the ventilation ispoor.
Never drape a newspaper, tablecloth or curtainon the TV.
When installing the TV against a wall, alwayskeep the TV at least 10 cm away from the wall.
Never place the TV on a soft unstable surface,such as a carpet, or a cushion.
The inside of this TV will overheat if the
ventilation holes are covered, blocked or sealed,
which may result in a fire.

7) Never place the TV near a heater or in directsunlight.
The surface of the cabinet or power cord may
melt and result in a fire or an electric shock.
8) Never place the TV in an area exposed to highhumidity levels, such as in a bathroom or closeto a humidifier.
This may cause a fire or an electric shock.
9) Never place the TV next to a stove where itwill be exposed to oil, smoke, or steam, or ina location where there is a large quantity ofdust.
This may cause a fire or an electric shock.
10) Precautions for moving the TV When moving the TV, be sure to remove the
plug from the wall outlet and disconnect theaerial cable and audio/video cables, any steadyties and mounting screw. A fire or an electricshock may result if the power cord is damaged.
When carrying the TV, at least two people areneeded. Be sure to carry it upright.
Never carry the TV with the screen facing up ordown.

11)Precautions for installing on outdoor aerial
An outside aerial system should not be located
in the vicinity of overhead power lines, or other
electric light or power circuits.
If the aerial falls down or drops, it may cause an
injury or an electric shock.
Use
1) Never place hot objects or open ame sources,such as lighted candles or nightlights, on orclose to the TV.
High temperatures can melt plastic and lead to
fires.
2) The apparatus shall not be exposed todripping or splashing and that no objectsfilled with liquids, such as vases, shall beplaced on the apparatus.
When liquids are spilled or small items are
dropped inside the TV, this may cause a fire or an
electric shock.
If small objects drop inside the TV, turn off the
TV and remove the power plug from the outlet
immediately and contact a service technician.
3) Never insert objects (metal or paper) or pourwater inside the TV through ventilation holesand other openings.
These items may cause a fire or an electric shock.
If these objects are inserted inside the TV, turnoff the TV and remove the power plug from
the outlet immediately and contact a service
technician. Be especially careful that children do
not insert objects in the TV.

4) When the TV will not be used for a long periodof time, such as during vacation or travel,remove the power plug from the wall outletfor safety. The TV is not completely disconnected from
the power supply line, as minute current isconsumed even when the 1Power switch isturned off.
The Mains plug or an appliance coupler isused as the disconnect device, therefore
the disconnect device shall remain readilyoperable.
5) Never pull on the power cord when removingthe plug from the wall outlet.
Always hold the plug firmly when removing it. Ifthe power cord is yanked, the cord may become
damaged and a fire or an electric shock may
occur.
6) Never cut, break, modify, twist, bunch upor bent the cord or apply excessive force ortension to it.
Never place heavy objects on the cord or allow
it to overheat as this may cause damage, a fire or
an electric shock. Contact a service technician if
the power cord is damaged.

7) If there is thunder or lightning, never touchthe aerial cable or other connected cables.
You may suffer an electric shock.
Service
1) Never repair, modify or disassemble the TV byyourself.
It may cause a fire or an electric shock.
Consult a service technician for inspection and
repairs.
2) When a malfunction occurs, or if smoke oran unusual odor comes from the TV, turn offthe TV and remove the power plug from the
outlet immediately.Make sure that the smoke or smell has stopped,
then contact a service technician. If the TV is still
used in this condition, it may cause a fire or an
electric shock.
3) If the TV is dropped or the cabinet is broken,turn off the TV and remove the power plugfrom the outlet immediately.
If the TV has power in this condition, it may
cause a fire or an electric shock. If the cabinet
is broken, be careful when handling the TV to
prevent an injury.
Contact a service technician for inspection and
repair.
4) When the TV reaches the end of its useful life,ask a qualified service technician to properlydispose of the TV.
Cleaning
CAUTION: Avoid using chemicals (such as airrefreshers, cleaning agents, etc.) on or nearthe TV pedestal. Studies indicate that plasticsmay weaken and crack over time from thecombination effects of chemical agents and
mechanical stress (such as weight of TV). Failureto follow these instructions could result inserious injury and/or permanent damage to TVand TV pedestal.
1) Remove the power plug before cleaning.
Never use solvents such as benzine or thinner to
clean the TV. These solvents may distort the cabinet or
damage its finish. If rubber or vinyl products remain in contact
with the TV for a long time, a stain may result.
If the cabinet becomes dirty, clean it with a soft,dry cloth.
When cleaning the surface of the LCD display,
wipe the panel surface gently with a soft, dry
cloth.
2) Periodically disconnect the power plug fromthe outlet and check it.If dust has collected on the power plugconnectors, clean off the dust with a dry cloth.
This dust may cause a fire due to reduced
insulation on the plug.

Important information
1) About LCD screen If you have the LCD screen facing to the sun,
the LCD screen will be damaged. Be aware of
locating the TV close to a window or outdoors. Never press the LCD screen strongly or scratchit, and never put anything on it. These actionswill damage the LCD screen.
2) About cabinet and LCD screen
Never spray volatile compounds such as
insecticide on the cabinet and LCD screen.
This may cause a discolouration or damage the
cabinet and LCD screen.
3) About afterimage
If a still picture is displayed, an afterimage may
remain on the screen, however it will disappear.
This is not a sign of malfunction.
4) Some pixels of the screen do not light up
The LCD display panel is manufactured using an
extremely high level of precision technology,
however sometimes some pixels of the screen
may be missing picture elements or have
luminous spots. This is not sign of malfunction.
5) About Interference
The LCD display may cause interference in
image, sound, etc. of other electronic equipment
that receives electromagnetic waves (e.g. AM
radios and video equipment).
6) About using under the low temperatureplaces
If you use the TV in the room of 0C or less,
the picture brightness may vary until the
LCD monitor warms up. This is not a sign of
malfunction.

Toshiba is not liable for any damage causedby fires, natural disaster (such as thunder,earthquake, etc.), acts by third parties, accidents,owners misuse, or uses in other improper
conditions. Toshiba is not liable for incidental damages
(such as profit loss or interruption in business,modification or erasure of record data, etc.)caused by use or inability to use of product.

Connecting an aerial
Optimum reception of colour requires a good signaland will generally mean that an outdoor aerial mustbe used.
The exact type and positioning of the aerial willdepend upon your particular area.Your Toshiba dealer or service personnel can bestadvise you on which aerial to use in your area.Before connecting the aerial cable, turn off all mainpower switches.

Installing the remote control batteries
Remove the battery cover.
Insert two R03 (AAA) batteries matching the /+polarities of the battery to the /+ marks inside thebattery compartment.
Cautions: Dispose of batteries in a designated disposal area.
Batteries must not be exposed to excessive heat suchas sunshine, re or the like.
Introduction / Getting started
Attention should be drawn to the environmentalaspects of battery disposal.
Never mix battery types or combine used batterieswith new ones.
Notes:
If the remote control does not operate correctly, or ifthe operating range becomes reduced, replace bothbatteries with new ones.
If the batteries are dead or if you will not use theremote control for a long time, remove the batteriesto prevent battery acid from leaking into the batterycompartment.

Turning the TV on
Switching on the TV
Connect the power cord to a wall outlet, the !
power indicator lights in red (standby mode).
1 Press 1on the remote control or !on the TVleft side panel, the !power indicator lights ingreen.
Note:If you watch black and white programmes when theColour Systemmode is set to Auto, colour noisemay appear on the screen. In this case select theappropriate Colour System(For the system of eachcountry or region, refer to pages 17, 56).
Switching off the TV
1 Press 1on the remote control or !on the TVleft side panel to switch to the standby mode.
Notes: When the TV will not be used for a long period of
time, such as during vacation or travel, remove thepower plug from the wall outlet.
If power is cut off while you are viewing the TV,the Last Mode Memory function turns on the TVautomatically when power is applied again. If power
is going to be off for a long time and you are goingto be away from your TV, unplug the power cord toprevent the TV from turning on in your absence.
Tuning the TV for the first time
Before switching on the TV, put your decoder andmedia recorder to standby, if they are connected,and ensure that the aerial is connected. To setupthe TV, use the buttons on the remote control asdetailed on page 12.

Programming channels into the TVs channel
memory
First, use the Auto Tuning function to preset allthe active channels in your area automatically.
Then, arrange the preset channels with theManual Tuning function so that you can tune intoonly desired channels.
Use the Manual Tuning operation if desiredchannels cannot be preset with the Auto Tuningor if you would like to preset channels to specificposition numbers one by one.

Picture adjustment
Most of the picture controls and functions areavailable. However, features not available will begreyed out.
Selecting the Picture Size
1 Press until the picture size list appears onthe screen, then pressorto select theappropriate picture size (or press repeatedlyto select the desired picture size directly).
2 Press OK.
Wide
Use this setting when watching a wide-screen DVD,widescreen video tape or a 16:9 broadcast (whenavailable). Due to the range of wide-screen formats(16:9, 14:9, 20:9 etc.), you may see bars on the topand bottom of the screen.
4:3
Use this setting to view a true 4:3 broadcast.
Super Live
This setting will enlarge a 4:3 image to fit the screenby stretching the image horizontally and vertically,holding better proportions at the centre of theimage. Some distortion may occur.
Cinema
When watching all sides panel format films/videotapes, this setting will eliminate or reduce the blackbars on all the sides of the screen by zooming in andselecting the image without distortion.
Subtitle
When subtitles are included on a letterbox formatbroadcast, this setting will raise the picture so thatthe most of text is displayed.

Use this setting when watching a 14:9 broadcast.
Native
This setting will display the image correctly withoutdistortion or picture clipping.
PC NormalUse this setting for PC connected via HDMI or RGB/PC terminal when receiving PC signal format. Thissetting will display the image correctly withoutdistortion or picture clipping.
PC WideUse this setting for PC connected via HDMI or RGB/PC terminal when receiving PC signal format. Thissetting will display the image without pictureclipping.

Using the TVs features
Dot by Dot
Dot by Dot is a non-scaling display. Depending onthe input signal format, the picture is displayed withside panels and/or bars at the top and bottom (e.g.VGA input source).
Notes: Using the special functions to change the size of
the displayed image (e.g. changing the height/width ratio) for the purpose of public display orcommercial gain may infringe on copyright laws.
If the aspect ratio of the selected format is differentfrom the one of the TV transmission or video
programme, it can cause a difference in vision.Change to the correct aspect ratio picture size.
When using the PC connected via HDMI or RGB/PC terminal, the moving image quality may bedeteriorated.
Using the picture still
Press to freeze the picture. Even if an image is frozen on the TV screen, the
pictures are running on the input source. Audio
continues to be output as well. To return to a moving picture, press again.

Resetting the Picture Mode
This feature resets all picture settings to the factorysettings.
Note:
If no picture settings have been changed, Resetis notavailable.
1 From the PICTUREmenu, pressortoselect Reset, and then press OK.
2 A confirmation message will appear. Pressorto select Yes, and then press OK.
Activating the picture preferences
You can customise current Picture Modesettings asdesired. For example, while selecting "Dynamic", if
you change the following items, such as Backlight,Contrast, Brightness, Colour, Tint, Sharpness, andthe Advanced Picture Settingsitems, your newsetting are saved for "Dynamic" Picture Mode.

Activating the Noise Reduction (NR)
If the receiving signal of MPEG is a mosquito(grained) noise depending on the compression andconversion, the picture is weak and the picture isblurry, the picture may be improved when using thisfunction.

Activating Auto Brightness Sensor

Using the Active Backlight Control
In order to improve screen visibility, the Active
Backlight Controlsets the screen brightnessautomatically during dark scenes.

Selecting the monaural programmes
If sound distortion, interruptions or silence arises in
the low sound volume level, setting theeMono 2mode will mitigate the problem.
1 When a monaural programme is received,eMonoappears.
2 Presssto select a monaural mode that iseasy to hear.eMono 1andeMono 2appearcyclically to the screen.
Note:On some cases, the reception of stereo/bilingualbroadcasts may not be possible after switching on the

Using the Advanced Sound Settings
Bassand Treblehelp to adjust the basic soundquality.
Dynamic Bass Boosthelps to emphasize the basssound. Please use this function in your favorite.Voice Enhancementhelps to emphasizedialogue. It will be easier to hear voices over otherbackground audio.

Selecting the Dual 1 or Dual 2 mode

Notes: When the MTS setting is in Monomode, the Dual

Using the Stable Sound
The Stable sound function limits the highest volumelevel to prevent extreme changes in volume whenthe signal source changes (for example, to preventthe sudden increase in volume that often happenswhen a TV programme switches to a commercial).

Position: Set the position that will be tunedwhen the TV turns on.
Volume: Select the volume level that will be setwhen the TV turns on.
Time Until Power On:Set the amount oftime from now until the TV turns on using theNumberbuttons (maximum of 12 hours).
4 When all the details have been entered, selectDoneand press OKto start the timer.
To cancel the On Timer
1 In the On Timermenu, select Enable On Timer.
2 Pressorto select Off, and then selectDoneand press OK.
Setting the Sleep Timer
The Sleep Timer is especially useful if you want theTV to turn itself off after a selected period of time.
1 From the APPLICATIONSmenu, presstoselect Sleep Timer.
2 Press the Numberbuttons (0-9) to enterthe amount of time until the TV turns off.Alternatively, pressorto adjust the time inblocks of 10 minutes up to 12 hours.

Note:When Panel Lockis On, a reminder will appear whenthe keys on the TV are touched. If the standby key istouched, the TV will switch off and can only be broughtout of standby by using the remote control.
Setting the Automatic Power Down
The TV will automatically turn itself off (standby)after approximately 4 hours, if you do not operatethe control buttons on the remote control or on theTV control panel.
1 From the PREFERENCESmenu, pressoruntil Energy Saving Settingsis selected, andthen press OK.
2 Pressorto select Automatic Power
Down, pressorto select Onor Off, andthen press EXIT.
Note:1 minute before switching to standby, a warningmessage will appear.
Setting No Signal Power Down
The TV will automatically turn itself off after 15minutes when no signal is detected. You can changethe setting to Off for the following purposes: Low signal strength of analog channel (no signal
detection). Only Audio L/R is connected to an external
input in order to listen to music through the TVspeakers.
1 From the Energy Saving Settingsmenu, pressOK.
2 Pressorto select No Signal Power Downand press OK.
3 Pressorto select the item you want tochange and pressorto select Onor Off.
Notes: Default setting is all On. A warning message will appear 1 minute before
turning off.
Viewing the Software Licences
The licences for the software used in this TV areavailable for viewing on screen.
1 From the SETUPmenu, pressorto selectSoftware Licences.
2 Press OK.
A screen will appear displaying all of thelicencing information required for the TVssoftware.
To display the remaining Sleep Timer:Press SLEEP.
To cancel the sleep time:Press,or SLEEPuntil the time is set to00:00.
Using the Auto Format
When the TV receives a true HDMI signal pictureand the Auto Formatis On, it will automatically bedisplayed in HDMI signal format, irrespective of theTVs previous setting.

Panel Lock
Panel Lockdisables the buttons on the TV. All

Using HDMI CEC Fuction
This feature uses CEC (Consumer ElectronicsControls) technology and allows the control of HDMICEC compatible devices from the TV remote controlvia HDMI connection (-page 36).
Note:
This feature may not work properly depending on theconnected HDMI CEC compatible device.
HDMI CEC one touch play
When a connected device is turn on CEC willautomatically detect the TV through the inputselection. If the TV is in standby it will be turn onautomatically. This feature is selected in the HDMICEC Setupmenu.
Note:Even if the device is showing a menu the T V may
automatically show the video input source on-screendisplay.
Using the TVs features
HDMI CEC system standby
This feature automatically turns the connecteddevice into standby when the TV goes into standbyand conversely for the TV to switch into standbywhen connected device goes into standby.
HDMI CEC system audio control
Using the Speaker Preference feature allows the TVremote control to adjust the volume or mute thesound of the speakers connected to the TV via an AVamplifier.Ensure that the connected AV amplifier and HDMICEC compatible device are selected in the inputsource selection and that the Speaker Preferenceisset to Amplifierin the HDMI CEC Setupmenu or inthe Quick Menu(Speakers).
Notes: When you turn on the AV amplier, change its input
source, or adjust the sound volume, the sound willbe output from the AV ampliers speakers even ifTV Speakers has been selected. Turn the TV rst tostandby and on again to output the sound from theTVs speaker.
The proper function may not work by operating AVamplier.
The above functions are dependent on theconnected device and TV setting.
HDMI CEC functions
When the Enable HDMI CECis set to On, it allowsthe following functions to be enabled by settingthem to On.
TV Auto Power If a HDMI CEC device is turned on or off, the TV
turns on or standby automatically.
Auto Standby If the TV is set to standby, the TV will send a
message to turn off the selected HDMI CEC
compatible device connected to the TV.
Initial Speaker Setting From this item, you can set your audio output
preference to the TV speakers or the AV amplifierspeakers. When this item is set to Amplifier, theTV remote control can be used to adjust or mutethe volume of the audio.
Notes: When you turn on the AV amplier, change its input
source, or adjust the sound volume, the sound willbe output from the AV ampliers speakers even if TV
Speakershas been selected. Turn the TV to standbyand on again to output the sound from the TVsspeakers.

To control the HDMI CEC compatible device
First select the HDMI input source with the desiredHDMI CEC compatible device connected, thenswitch the mode on the remote control to HDMICEC and press the available button on the remotecontrol (-page 13).
The TV features that can be controlled by the connecteddevice remote control are:
Power standby, Volume, Programme channel, Soundmute, Input selection, Number buttons, Previousprogramme channel etc.
Note:These functions are dependent on the connecteddevice. Not all the remote control buttons may beavailable. Please refer to the owners manual for all theconnected devices.

This TV has a multi-page Teletext memory, which
takes a few moments to load and it offers twoways of viewing Teletext Autoand Listwhich areexplained below.
Setting up the Teletext mode
To select a language for Teletext:

You need to return to normalviewing if you wish to change channels.When you first press TEXTto access the text service,the first page you see will be the initial page.In Automode, this displays the main subjectsavailable and their relevant page numbers.In Listmode, you will see the page numberscurrently stored on the each colourbutton.
Sub-pages:Once in this chosen page, if there are sub-pagesthey will automatically load into memory withoutchanging the one you are reading. If there are manysub-pages, it will take a long time for them all toload and this will depend on the speed with whichthe broadcaster transmits them.To access the sub-pages in memory, pressorto view them.
Using Subtitles
1 Press SUBTITLEon the remote control to whilethe teletext screen is displayed to displaysubtitles. While the subtitles are displayed, pressSUBTITLEagain to change the setting.
Using Auto mode
There are two Modes: Autowill display FASTEXT, ifavailable. Listwill display your four favorite pages.In either mode, as an alternative to the colouredbuttons, you can access a page by entering a 3-digitnumber, using the Numberbuttons on the remotecontrol, or to advance to the next page, press PU, togo back to the previous page press Pu. To changebetween Autoand List, see above.

To hold a wanted page:
This function is included as it is part of the broadcastteletext system but you will not need it as this TVallows you to control the display of sub-pages.
To enlarge the teletext display size:
Press once to enlarge the top half of the page,press again to enlarge the bottom half of the page.Press again to revert to the normal size.
To select a page while viewing a normal picture:
When in teletext mode, if a page selection is madeand then is pressed, a normal picture will bedisplayed. The TV will indicate when the page ispresent by displaying the title bar of the text page at

Connecting an audio system
You can enjoy high quality dynamic sound byconnecting the TV to an audio system.
Notes: DO NOT connect the DIGITAL AUDIOoutput
terminal to the AC-3 RF input of a Dolby DigitalReceiver with a built-in Dolby Digital decoder.
Connect the DIGITAL AUDIOoutput terminal to theOPTICALinput of a receiver or processor.

When you connect the TV to other equipment, besure to turn off the power and unplug all of theequipment from the wall outlet before making anyconnections.
The output sound of the TV has a wide dynamicrange. Be sure to adjust the audio ampliers volume
to a moderate listening level before turning on thepower. Otherwise, the speakers and your hearingmay be damaged by sudden high volume audio.
Turn off the amplier before you connect ordisconnect the TVs power cord. If you leave theamplier power on, the speakers may be damaged.

Connecting a home network
The LAN port allows your Toshiba TV to connect toyour home network. You can use this revolutionaryhome entertainment networking system to accessphoto, video and audio files that are stored on aDLNA CERTIFIED server and play/display them onyour TV .
Notes: If you connect to a shared-network outside
your home, please use the router, and useDLNA CERTIFIED product in a private network
