Articles
• Artigos “a” e “an” significam
“um/uma”. São usados antes de
substantivos contáveis no SINGULAR.
• “a” se usa antes de substantivos iniciados por consoante:
a boy, a ship, a dog, a chair, a friend, a teacher

• “an” é usado antes de substantivos
iniciados por vogal:
an egg, an eraser, an animal, an ugly dog
• Antes de palavras iniciadas por h, quando este não for pronunciado:
an hour, an heir, an honest man

• “the” é usado antes de substantivos já apresentados ou únicos e nomes próprios (de rios, de oceanos, de mares, de desertos, de montanhas, de países, de famílias, de estabelecimentos):

Adjectives
• São usados para descrever e qualificar substantivos. Aparecem antes do substantivo ou depois dos verbos de ligação na frase.
I have a blue pencil.
(Eu tenho um lápis azul.)
She is smart.
(Ela é esperta.)

• Os adjetivos que expressam um fato, como idade, cor e tamanho, geralmente vêm depois daqueles que expressam uma opinião como: legal, interessante, chato.
