“Design is a creative activity whose aim is to establish the multifaceted qualities
of objects, processes, services and their systems in whole life-cycles. Therefore, design is the central factor of innovative humanisation of technologies and the crucial factor of cultural and economic exchange.”

Zooming (design) problems

_ developing a systems thinking approach for solving problems _ trying to anticipate areas for design influence in large scale problems that differ from the traditional domains of professional practice (e.g. voting, learning, agriculture, social exclusion etc.) _ broaden the field’s understanding of sustainability to include more than “green” issues (e.g. economic sustainability, cultural sustainability, technological sustainability, etc) _ diversify the profession to embody multiple perspectives

SCALE IS THE NEW GEOGRAPHY (D. Eames, Studio Eames, 2010)
“Scale is the new geography. . . . So many of our challenges
today are ultimately matters of scale. To be a good citizen of the world and have a chance to make it a better place, a person
must have a real understanding of scale.”

“Engineering, medicine, business, architecture, and painting are concerned not with the necessary but with the contingent – not with how things are, but how they might be – in short, with design. Everyone designs who devises courses of action aimed at changing existing situations into preferred ones. Design, so construed, is the core of all professional thinking.” Herbert Simon, 1969

Narrazioni (oggetti, SERVIZI…) come OPERE APERTE
alla partecipazione/interpretazione del “LETTORE” (utente, CITTADINO)
IL BISOGNO (umano) di STORIE

_ se ogni artefatto è narrazione, la sua “apertura” al contributo del “lettore-utente”, è aumentata (con un incremento esponenziale negli ultimi anni), anche grazie alle nuove tecnologie dell’informazione e delle telecomunicazioni; _ la “stopping rule” di un progetto, cioè quel “click” che limita il processo progettuale (altrimenti inarrestabile…) per consentire ad un artefatto di “esistere” è rinviata sine die; esso diventa di fatto una sorta di “enabling rule” aperto, accessibile, riconfigurabile;

Bruno Munari

The Senior sport equipment serves to maintain the well-being and physical fitness of senior citizens. The Senior sport equipment developed by Lappset inspires people to be playful, exercise and to challenge their bodies and senses. People aged 65 or over represent a larger and larger proportion of the population and 37 percent of people aged 75 or over live alone. The need for exercise and social interaction does not go away as we get older. On the contrary, in order to maintain a good quality of life for longer it is imperative that we keep challenging our minds and bodies and stay involved. No matter what age we are, the most enjoyable and least arduous form of exercise is play, ideally with other people. Lappset is responding to the challenge posed by the ageing population by offering environments that combine playgrounds and exercise facilities and invite people of all ages to join in the fun.

Target users are elderly people and retirees living in Japan and Young foreign people who wish to learn Japanese. With this service elderly people and retirees can enjoy the sense of fulfillment that comes from contributing to society. While young foreign people can study Japanese and Japanese culture. It connects, via videophone, those who wish to study Japanese and those who are elderly or retired in Japan. As the labor force in Japan continues to shrink due to the falling birthrate and the aging population, the Japanese government is looking to increase foreign laborers, students and visitors. However, regrettably, the opportunity to learn Japanese in Asian countries such as Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines is very limited. Japanese language schools are rare and expensive, particularly in rural areas. This system will give Japanese elderly fulfillment and young foreign people interested in Japan an opportunity to learn Japanese.

An organization called the SFS located in Meilen, Switzerland, provides care for older people in everyday life. The elderly who live in that country may find help from other seniors who have some capabilities such as the possibility to give the daily care (physical and mental), the companionship, private lessons, etc.. . The participants have access to the service thanks to a self-service or via website where there are a lot of information. The site also provides an opportunity for users to give feedback on the quality of service, but at the same time it is a platform to socialize. Their goal is to form a unity among the elderly and also increase the contacts between the elderly and society. It then allows the elderly to live a life more interesting and meaningful, to make better use of human resources.

fanno pensare” …
