University, US.
Colin specializes in mining hydrogeology:
especially groundwater hydrology of
underground coal mining and mine
subsidence. His current research project
involves modeling the effects of longwall
mining on shallow aquifers. Colin is
involved in the analysis of groundwater
flow systems and their application to
groundwater resource evaluation and
protection and environmental siting
problems: delineation of recharge and
shallow aquifer systems in rural areas

John is Principal Hydrogeologist with
Parsons Brinckerhoff – Sydney and
for or the last four years has been
with Sydney Catchment Authority
planning their substantial Sydney
Basin groundwater investigation

program. John has more than 35 years
experience in regional groundwater
investigations, water supply studies,
groundwater allocation and policy
studies in NSW, Malaysia and Indonesia.
He has also worked on large industrial,
mining, water infrastructure projects,
contaminated site investigations,
remediation projects, and specialist
research studies.
JERZY JANKOWSKIScientific Program Manager,
Sydney Catchment Authority.
More than 30 years experience, working
at various universities and government
organisations in Australia and overseas –
including the University of NSW as an
A/Professor of hydrogeology. His
wide research interests include
hydrogeochemistry, contaminant
hydrogeology, surface water-groundwater
interaction, dryland salinisation, fractured
aquifer systems and lake hydrodynamics.
Current research includes assessment
of longwall mining impacts on water
resources in the Southern Coalfield
of NSW.
