When it comes to railway network, the only limit is your imagination.
Given a mandate to restructure the inefficient state-owned
railway network, Korea Rail Network Authority (KR) was
established to handle construction activities, and train
operations were transferred to the KORAIL.
Imagine a better world where
railway connects the two Koreas,
brings you to people with whom youve fallen out of touch,
and makes us all bind together!
It is no longer a dream but a reality in reach.
Moving forward in hope,
KR will shape the future of Korea.

Thank you for your continued interest in the Korean railway!
Over the last decade and more the Korean railway has been a major drivingforce behind the nations economic growth and regional development. Once therailway industry was suffered from unprecedented market volatility, yet it isnow poised to take off another leap forward, with a view to taking advantages ofa paradigm shift as people put far greater value on the rail mode.
Railway is an ideal alternative to meet the future energy needs and environmentalchallenges. Therefore, the transport policies and investments of manydeveloped countries focus on promoting a rail-oriented network, whicheventually leads to a modal shift.
KR is striving to foster an era of railway renaissance that will become a mainstream in the21st century. In pursuit of enhancing more sustainable mobility, it hasencouraged the development of nationwide rail network since its inception in2004. In particular, KR has achieved the following milestones: opening of theworlds fifth high speed line, electrification of major trunk lines, andconstruction of inter-city rail link in the Seoul metropolitan area.
Besides playing a vital role in meeting the challenges of growing mobility andcompetitiveness, KR is equipped with capabilities of shifting Korea as alogistics hub, linking trans-continental railways such as TKR, TCR, and TSR,and taking the lead in building a global rail network. As demonstrated by itsRailways Make World a Better Place slogan, KR aims at becoming the leader inoffering rail engineering and project management expertise adding a newchapter to the railway history.
In this rapidly changing world, we have reengineered our strategies for the transition to asustainable growth, turning KR into a world leading company in the railwayengineering.Thank you!

KR stretches across the Korean Peninsula towards a bigger world
A lot of hard work went into an ambitious land bridge project to connect Busan and Mokpo to
Western Europe via Munsan~ Sinuiju~Dandong by a rail link. KR, at the leading position in the
global market, is making a key step towards the destination of reunification and new horizons.
Trans-Korea railway & North Korean rail modernization
Following the historic test run in May 2007, a regular schedule of cross-border freight service began on the
reconnected west coast Gyeongui line from Munsan to Bongdong in December. KR is conducting the Trans-Korea
railway project in an efficient manner by using the KR-PMIS for real-time information exchange.
Overseas rail construction projects
KR is making inroad into overseas railway markets including China,
Southeast Asia, and the Middle East.

Transit-oriented development at station areas
KR is committed to ongoing improvements at different locations from stations to trackside to constantly
promote regional economy, improve passenger comfort, and satisfy increasing transportation demand.
Station Area Development Master Plan
Following the feasibility studies, we have developed our priority station areas (Gwangmyeong HSR station, Hong Ik Univesity station & Gongdeok
station on the Gyeongui line, and Songdo station on the Suin line), stably together with rapid progress of our rail construction projects.
Gwangmyeong Multimodal Transit Facilities Development
With transit-supportive land uses (including housing) it makes excellent opportunities for public-private partnerships to build transit facilities
with a bus terminal. This development project will bring added vibrancy and economic activity, facilitated by the presence of public transit
Hong Ik University St. Multimodal Transit Facilities Development
In pursuit of passengers convenience and local economic development, we will provide multimodal transit facilities (incl. business and sales
facilities), with double-track electrification of Youngsan~Munsan section already taking place on the Gyeongui line.
Station development to stimulate local economic development
We design state-of-the-art station facilities with sound architecture and design. Stations, evocative visual landmarks for the local community,
will provide the town a cultural centre rather than just a commercial heart and become a source of local pride.

23
Traveling smart not fast without putting the nature second
Above all, let us be mindful that our future prosperity lies in the careful stewardship of the
Earth. KR fosters a sustainable green future living in harmony with Mother Nature.
Green policy to determine rail routes
Environmental considerations are at the heart of the route selection with enhanced public participation to assessdifferent opinions at the earliest stage of planning process through preparation of alternatives.
Railway construction guidelines for environmental stewardship
Through complete management, we minimize the adverse impact of the railway construction on air, water, and soil
pollution, ecological systems, and living & social surroundings.
Green citizen committee and conflict management
To prevent and solve conflicts and complaints arising during the execution of construction projects, a green citizen
committee with representation from a wide cross-section of residents and NGOs meets at a regular interval, in
addition to public hearings, conflict review committee, and construction industry arbitration committee.
Best earth-friendly rail construction practices
- Holding public hearings & workshops to prevent environmental conflicts
- Jointly conducting environment & ecological studies to minimize adverse impact
- Monitoring & promoting environmental-friendly construction through post-evaluation
- Introducing tunnel dust mitigation measures and sound barriers in residential areas
- Installing crossing boxes for wild animals prior to railway opening

Human-oriented Railway
Everyone must be happy in the railway space
Everyone in Korea has all the advantages of railway; this is the KRs dream.
We will pay all the attention to every detail and not overlook any trivial inconvenience so that
we can help those who hardly dare to use the public transportation to access to the railway
system.
Increase the service facilities for the handicapped and seniors
We have increased a number of service facilities, such as elevators, toilets and ticket offices exclusively for seniors
and handicapped.
Service facilities with comfort and convenience
A nursing room for mothers and children, a mini-library and a computer lounge for those who have a long waiting
time and drinking water fountains.
Best fit to the rail system with urban landscapes
A grade-separated crossing enables the areas surrounding a station connected to each other. We also build roads
over or under the station to contribute to the revitalization of the city. The railway increases its roles as a medium
of connection, not of disconnection.
Expansion of passenger service facilities
Elevators and escalators at platforms
Guidance paths for the blind
Additional fluting roof installation in rainfalls
