The new academy eatures large, clear
spaces, both inside and out. Theinternal courtyard is a venue that canhost in excess o 900 people orperormances and events during thesummer and will enable students tohave the space to imagine, work, playand create.
The learning spaces incorporate state-o-the-art ICT and media acilities.These are combined with ull wi-fcoverage to ensure that ICT enhances
the learning experience. Focusingon our specialism there are threemultimedia suites, a recording studioand a cinema.
The academy boasts a two-storeyperormance space that can be used asa community theatre and will becomea part o north Manchesters socialcalendar, providing a multitude oopportunities or students, their
amilies and extended networks. Both
the internal and external areas aredesigned to give pupils the chanceto learn in an environment they canrespect, value and eel involved in.
There is a series o outdoor areasthat will provide students with theopportunity to learn in new andexciting ways, including a rootopgarden ocusing on environmentalsustainability. This is also supportedby a sedum blanket roo.

OUR RESPECT FOR YOUR CHILD
at McMa we invest hevily in thepstorl re nd guidne of ehindividul young person.
To ensure outstanding pastoral careand guidance or our young people,we have adopted a school-within-schools model.
School becomes more meaningulwhen relationships between teachers
and students are strong and positive;this is best brought about in smallcommunities where students learnwith a limited number o teacherswho know them well.
The academy is divided intoour separate schools each withapproximately 400 students (one boysschool, two girls schools and onepost-16 school). Each school will haveits own part in the academy building,
will be led by a school director, andwill have the support o two pastoralleaders, one assistant pastoral leadand one attendance ofcer. As ar aspossible, each school will have itsown team o teachers.
Along with this individual schoolpastoral support, each school will alsohave the support o the academy
behaviour intervention team, anacademy counsellor, a childprotection ofcer, a looked aterchild co-ordinator and a parentsupport adviser.
We want to provide the highest
level o care or each student so theycan achieve the highest possibleacademic standards.
Thereore, within each school, pupilswill be divided into year tutor groupso approximately 25 students. Eachtutor group will have the support otwo tutor leaders. As ar as possible,each young person will remain in thistutor group or his/her school lie.
Each school will also have anenterprise and charity ocus, and assuch, will oer excellent opportunitiesor pupils to participate in a range oactivities to develop their leadershipand team-building skills.

In KS3, students study the ollowingsubjects: English, Maths, Science,History, Geography, French or Spanish,ICT, PE, Art, Music and PerormingArts (Drama and Dance). Throughall subjects, there is an emphasis onenabling students to develop key skillsin reading, writing, mathematics andcommunication. In KS3 there is alsoan Opening Minds programme,which helps students to developcompetencies that are necessary toachieve success in all subjects and liein general, eg. learning, managinginormation, managing situations,relating to people, and citizenship.
Year 9 is a bridge year, designed toprepare students or KS4. During Year9, students will begin to ollow more
personalised routes and will be guidedthrough the options process, choosingrom a wide range o subjects andcourses to study in KS4.
In KS4, each student ollows one oour distinct pathways designed tomeet individual needs and interests.Some students ollow a moreacademic route, studying GCSEcourses including those that lead
to the English Baccalaureatequalifcations increasingly expectedo university applicants, eg. English,Maths, a Humanities subject and aModern Foreign Language. Thesestudents will also usually studyseparate sciences (Biology, Physicsand Chemistry). Other students willstudy more vocational coursesalongside their GCSEs.
Through all subjects in all year groups,we develop an understanding ospiritual, moral, social and culturalissues so that, alongside qualifcations,students gain the positive attitudesand values they require to besuccessul learners and citizens inlie beyond school. We also use ourspecialism in Creative and Media toenrich all curriculum areas, makinglearning stimulating and relevant.
In the sixth orm we oer Level 3courses related to our specialism,including Digital Technology, MusicTechnology, and Art & Design.Alongside their main course, studentscan also gain qualifcations incutting-edge areas such as gamingand coding.

Our hievement
MCMA students have produced twoantastic eature-length flms thatwere premiered at the OdeonPrintworks in Manchester.
The Boggart Hole Clough exploredthe legend o the local area in the frstflm. The students and sta took to thescreen to show o their acting skills inthis dramatic mystery.
Izzi, a romantic drama that eaturedreal-lie historical incidents, includedthe inamous gathering at BoggartHole Clough led by the historicalinuential independent Labour Partyleader Keir Hardie. The stunninglocations evoked the dramatic eventssurrounding the lives o Izzi and herriends.
Students are working with McCannadvertising agency and proessionalweb designers to create an onlinemagazine or MCMA thatwill be run by students. All studentshave the opportunity to create contenton the website and get involved withphotography and video blogging.
MCMA enhances students learningthrough working with industryproessionals on creative projects. Theacademy has collaborated with 3Sheep, an App development
company, to create a phone app thatkeeps students and sta inormed othe latest MCMA news. Students havealso worked with a BBC producer tocreate a three-minute flmdocumenting the Manchester riots,and have designed an animation thatis shown in Manchester schools topromote a greener uture.
The Sharp Project ran a competition todesign a storyboard or an animationin which a character called Sharpie hasa vision or a greener Manchester. TheMCMA team consisted o AshanChaudray, Mutale Chasi, Lewis Frater,Jordan Nolan, Eric Openshaw andBolo Osho, supported by teachingsta Lisa Kelly and Carol Shelton.MCMA students designed the beststoryboard and their ideas have beenmade into a antastic animation thatwill be shown in Manchester schools topromote a greener uture.
MCMA sixth-orm Music Technologystudents produced the music thataccompanies the animation.

Progress
We have high aspirations or allour students and want to ensure thatthey all achieve personal success bydeveloping their knowledge, skillsand attributes.
Our expectations are that studentsenjoy learning experiences at ouracademy and make excellent progressrom their starting point in Year 7.
All students will be given a targetin Year 7 in all their subjects andthe targets will be based on theinormation received rom their primaryschools. It is important to recognisethat our targets are set or the end othe academic year and that they aredesigned to be both aspirationaland challenging.
At the Year 7 Settling-in Evening thereis an opportunity or parents to
discuss their childs progress.
In Years 8 and 9 a similar opportunityis available at the Progress InormationEvening.
At the end o KS3, students progressin relation to their targets is analysed,and new targets are set or their KS4courses. Inormation regarding theirprogress will be sent home each hal-term and Year 11 students will alsotake part in the academys Mentoring
Programme. This is designed togive our students the best supportand challenge to achieve theirtarget grades.
Parental support
Year 10, Year 11 and the sixth orm willhave a Parents Evening so that parentscan meet their childs teacher todiscuss their progress.
In Year 9, students choose theirKS4 option subjects. This is a criticaltime or students and these subjectswill aect their uture studies andcareer pathways.
During the course o the year thereare many Inormation Advice andGuidance events or KS4 students.They provide an opportunity orstudents to think about their utureand start planning or lie ater Year 11.This is an exciting and stressul timeor students as they have to acelots o changes. Our role is to supportour students by giving them the bestguidance to ensure that they leave useeling confdent about their uture.
