NaA-ZEOLITHMEMBRANEN FÜR DIE DAMPFPERMEATION
Einsatzgebiete
Viele Lösemittel bilden mit Wasser azeotrope
Gemische, so z. B. Ethanol bei einer Konzen-
tration von 95,6 Ma.% Ethanol. Eine nahezu
vollständige Entwässerung des Ethanols ist
nötig wenn er als Kraftstoffbeimischung
verwendet werden soll. Konventionelle Ent-
wässerungstechnologien, wie Schleppmittel-
rektifikation oder Adsorption, sind
energetisch aufwändig und bedingen hohe
Investitionskosten. Alternativ können
wasserselektive NaA-Zeolithmembranen Ver-
wendung finden. Mit diesen kann das
azeotrope Gemisch kontinuierlich und ener-
getisch effizient durch Pervaporation oder
Dampfpermeation entwässert werden.
Dabei wird durch die hydrophilen, 0,4 nm
großen Membranporen, nahezu reines
Wasser aus wasserhaltigem Ethanol abge-
trennt (siehe Diagramm). So gelingt es z.B.
Bioethanol auf Wassergehalte < 0,2 Ma%
zu trocknen, um ihn als Kraftstoff einsetzen
zu können. Das Verfahren findet bereits An-
wendung in mehreren Pilotanlagen.

Field of application
Many solvents form azeotropic mixtures
with water, for example ethanol at a con-
centration of 95.6 wt.%. When ethanol
should be used as an additive to fuels a
nearly complete dewatering of ethanol is
necessary. Conventional dewatering tech-
niques, as azeotropic distillation or pressure
swing adsorption, are energetically con-
sumptive and cause high investments costs.
As an alternative to the conventional tech-
niques water selective zeolite membranes
can be used. The membrane process en-
ables the continuous and energetically effi-
cient dewatering by pervaporation or
vapour permeation. Almost pure water per-
meates the hydrophilic membranes with
pore diameters of only 0.4 nm (see figure).
The ethanol can be dewatered down to less
than 0.2 wt.% of water to be used as an
additive to fuels. These membranes and the
membranes process is already realised in a
couple of pilot plants.
Effects
- Strong reduction of energy use
- No loss of solvents
- Relief of rectification (reduction of
column heigh and increase of column
capacity respectively)
Service offer
- Supply of membrane samples
- Customized dewatering tests in our lab
- Development and prototype construction

poration and vapour permeation
